Came in on a Sunday evening without a reservation(Valentines), for a friends birthday dinner. We didnt expect to find a table easily with such a large group, but it wasnt a problem — luckily! We all ordered starters, mains and desserts! The smoked trout and venison being my absolute favorite. The meat was perfectly done. What was outstanding was the service. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive! We will definitely come back.

Been there 3 times and always good food. Was there with an intro offer though with half price. Otherwise I find it quite pricey. However, the beef tartare is a must try as a starter. The short rib is also good.

Here is my underwhelming experience at Percy and Founders: The waiter who served me looked as unenthused as they come and sure enough he gets my whole steak order wrong(different type of steak, not cooked to the level I requested and not with the sauce I had chosen). No-one asks how the meal is and generally the vibe in the restaurant is one of indifference rather than any pride in the food served therein or any statement to be made. Meanwhile, the lobster and prawn fish cakes were a pleasant surprise; small to look at but packed with substance and complemented with a delectable saffron mayo. The 48 hour short rib steak(which I did not order) was tough to cut let alone chew and the texture was somewhat rough(not quite chalky but too close to it for comfort). The meat itself is bland and the peppercorn sauce thin and lacking in flavour unless you eat the peppercorns themselves. I then had a scoop of strawberry sorbet which was simply an ordinary scoop of sorbet(which could easily have come from the supermarket) and served in a container reminiscent of what they use for ready-made meals on flights. In short Percy and Founders seemed to hit above its weight with a decent looking website, a posh looking(if somewhat abstract) menu, and significant prices but in actual fact it is landing very much on par; nothing offensive(except for the failed order) but nothing creative nor remarkable either.

I’ve been twice to Percy & Founders, once for dinner with a friend in their opening week, and more recently for a business breakfast. Both occasions were really enjoyable, with excellent service, scrummy food, and a positive experience all-round. Their bread & butter you get with dinner is SO tasty! And I’d highly recommend the salmon omelette if you’re after a cooked breakfast. It is on the pricey side, but look out for offers via their newsletter or one of the online booking websites.
