This place is great! For those that wants a scandiaivan environment, this is the place! There is only a limited number of pastries but the amazing taste makes it up. — Ideal to relax — Ideal to do work — Ideal for interviews etc

Dissapointed by the lack of a certain tradition Danish pastry however despite this initial stumbling block this establishment drew me in with its charm, atmosphere and fine pastries. Deserved of a comfortable 4*.

Since leaving Edinburgh last year I have been on the hunt for the new Peter’s Yard. Nordic Bakery doesn’t quite filled the void that my favourite little Scottish haunt has left, but it does offer a similar trendy Scandinavian design, and some damn good cinnamon buns in central London. Though normally an americano kind of ‘gal, I quite enjoyed the filter coffee that I got here. The wifi seems to work perfectly well. The space does get a little crowded, but this isn’t really the fault of the café. The prices are quite high, though again, standard for central London. Overall a cool little café, I just wish they had a few more branches, and one with more natural light and co-working spaces wouldn’t go amiss. It’d also be nice if they could start using free range eggs; I saw downstairs while queuing for the loo that they use caged hen eggs, which saddened me a little.

4.4 quid for the meatball sandwich, and it is not too filling. I like meatball hot and the sauce hot too~ guess that s not my choice. but if you have a sweet tooth, I heard good words about the pastry~

Was overeager to check this place out, but the food fell short of expectations. People rave about their cinnamon buns, but the texture is too crumbly and overall it is quite mediocre to me. I also tried the skolebrod and gravlax which looked great but they again disappointed in taste. The skolebrod bun was crumbly and dry, lacking the soft elastic chewiness of a well-made yeast bread and the custard inside was just too thin and runny. The gravlax itself was decent, but the multi-grain bread underneath was soggy and tasted like a wet brown paper bag. There are plenty of tables, free wifi and the décor is simple and minimalist, as is typical of Scandinavian design. I wouldn’t mind coming here to grab a coffee and get some work done, but I likely wouldn’t return for the baked goods or lunch items.

I went to Iceland for a holiday and was pretty depressed about being back in the office — so I did what I normally do to cheer myself up — plan where to buy my lunch! Luckily, this Nordic Bakery is within walking distance. I had the Smoked salmon dark rye bread with a coffee and it was EXACTLY what I wanted, delicious, just enough to not over-fill me up, and laced with dreams of my holiday. I also had to takeaway a Karelian pie with egg butter for later in the afternoon — what a treat! Will definitely be back. PS. Staff were friendly and smiley too — even though there were super busy over the lunch break.

I went solely to try the cinnamon bun. Mind you I got there around lunch so probably not freshest but I wasn’t a big fan. I really wanted to love it too.

After all the hype with this place I was pretty excited to try Nordic Bakery. Unfortunately, I don’t understand the love. The almond bun was very dry, the cinnamon bun was dry and had zero flavor, but the organic rye bread did have good flavor though not enough for me to finish. I ended up having a few bites of everything then threw it all away.

How have I not reviewed this place yet? I absolutely, positively love their cinnamon buns. They are my favourite dessert in the entire world and it physically pains me if they’ve run out and I don’t have enough time to wait for the next batch. I’ve been coming here for years and have patronised other establishments which sell cinnamon buns. Nordic Bakery is, without a doubt, heads and shoulders above the rest, including Fabrique and Bageriet. I don’t know how they do it, but their buns are just so full of intense flavour. So, apart from the buns, what else is there to know about this place? Well, there is no Wi-Fi here, and the décor is very Nordic: all dark wood and minimalist, which makes this place look a little small. There’s a bakery downstairs, located on the same level as the restrooms. As there’s usually another batch of buns being baked at any one time, that means you get to inhale the most delicious smell ever on your way to and from the loo. Hey, why not? There are worse smells you could be assailed by.

Unfortunately, this was probably my least favorite coffee shop experiences in London. The people who were working here were really abrupt even though the shop didn’t seem particularly busy. We asked where the bathroom was and, separately, the difference between black or white coffee — not a distinction that we have in the States — and they were quite stern and seemingly annoyed when we asked. This spot seemed to be a place where people spent a bit of time to get things done, though there was no free wi-fi. A few people looked a little pretentious… just a different clientele than I feel like I saw anywhere else. Coffee and Gravadlax sandwich were ok.

Omg! What are these cinnamon buns? Crack infused? I used to think IKEA’s kanelbullar Swedish rolls were the Nordic cinnamon bun jam, but these were on some next level. Fresh from the oven and still warm(this was key — not reheated prior to serving, no crunchy hard edges from staying under a warmer for way too long). Flaky, full of cinnamon/cardamom and just the right amount of sweetness. Such a welcome departure from the dense Cinnabon style heavily iced syrupy sweetness(and the accompanying regret filled aftermath). You have to hustle for a table if you want one. This place is packed on the weekends with folks waiting for a table and others giving up and ordering a few cinnamon buns to go. I had a latte with my bun, but the coffee is nothing to write home about. It’s going to take all of me to keep from hitting this place up way too often for those crack buns though.

Their Cinnamon Bun is notorious so I had to try it. I was not impressed. It smells and looks tempting but personally, I didn’t like the taste. The cinnamon flavour seemed unpleasantly extreme to me. My black americano was very nice though. The Nodic Bakery also does other cakes and biscuits as well as sandwiches and salads, dominated by salmon. The small room was surprisingly crowded with waitresses who didn’t have much to do — unsurprisingly.

I try to avoid this place, not because it’s not good but because it’s too good and my bank balance just can’t sustain the amount of treats I would like to eat if I came here regularly. The dark rye is worth all the hype. I’m not a fan of cinnamon buns personally but a friend of mine loves them. The coffee is good and it’s a nice chilled environment for a catch up.

Maybe some of the best cinnamon buns I’ve ever gotten my hands on in London. This place does simplicity and it does it well. The Nordic Bakery is easy to miss in Golden Square, but if you’re around the Carnaby Street area and are looking for a quiet reprieve from the tourist madness, this is your place. The products are lovely and fresh, the coffee is pretty good & they do take away for those sunny days you’d rather sit outside in the square.

Bäckereien in England sind sehr selten. Diese hier kommt einer«deutschen Bäckerei» recht nah, nur die Preise sind entsprechend hoch. Ansonsten gute Backwaren und freundlicher Service.

Ordered at the counter and sat in the corner, I was after a stodgy cake, but when I smelt the cinnamon I was completely turned! I imagine the stuff here is particularly pleasant in winter, I would like a supply of their apple tarts to eat with mulled wine under a blanket on my sofa when it’s cold out! Cute little trays and staff who are pleasant enough, I just expected it to feel less like a Starbucks than it did– especially when the food was far better! Not sure why, but I’ll definitely be back!

5 stars for the amazing cookie I had today! Oats, chocolate, hazelnuts!!! 4 stars for good coffee(have had latte and filter coffee) 4 stars for friendly staff, ambiance, seating 1 star for cinnamon bun I had last time; so dry that I almost choked and my jaws got tired. .. had to give up half-way through. This is AFTER I read at least 1 other Unilocal review warning of the different style; I have had Swedish cinnamon buns elsewhere and loved them(especially at Fabrique Bakery, and btw try their cardamom buns. Yes, I will go over to their page and write a review.). 0 stars for lack of wifi Over-all, a good place to go, especially if you don’t need wifi and if you can resist the trickery of the lovely smell of the cinnamon buns!

Really wanted to like this place. The ambiance is nice, especially being on Golden Square. But the coffee was just OK, the cinnamon bun was not good, and it was somewhat pricey for what you get. Maybe it’s the ugly American in me, but when I hear about a cinnamon bun, I’m expecting a light, flaky, buttery pastry… something like a croissant with cinnamon or cardamom flavored sugar either on the outside or inside. It doesn’t have to be sticky and gooey, but it must, at a minimum be a decent pastry. Instead I got… a brick. I was quite surprised when I gripped the thing to try it. It could literally smash a window! It was probably the same weight as my latte. And the pastry did not flake easily, it was more like peeling half wet paint layers. In short, the cinnamon bun was just abysmal! I’m sorry, but this is almost OBJECTIVELY bad. If this passes as good in Nordic cuisine, I have serious doubts about the food from there.

I know nothing about Nordic cuisine beyond gravlax, I must admit. A new friend of mine among our group on Golden Square mentioned visiting Norway for a month, and that tipped off a trip to Nordic Bakery just steps away. The display of small open-faced sandwiches and desserts were enticing– ESPECIALLY the desserts. All of the sweets looked tasty; I wish I took each pastry home and indulge. Because I *am* trying to maintain my weight, I limited myself to a Nordic cinnamon roll instead. Yum. The taste reminded me of chimney cakes from Kurtosh, a popular dessert franchise in Sydney. Nordic Bakery’s cinnamon roll looks like a croissant than the traditional American cinnamon rolls I’m used to, but I enjoyed it. My order was a quick take-out, so I can’t say much for the ambiance of the place, though I had good first impressions(good ol’ minimal, modern Nordic design). Would love to return again!

I didn’t have a typical experience at Nordic Bakery. Well I hope I didn’t. Unless all you other peeps who said how great it was missed out the part about the constant beeping?!? We needed somewhere to hang whilst waiting for a table at Mildred’s that wasn’t a bar, so armed with my Unilocal app I seized the opportunity to steer the gang here and suss it out. The place is a poster child for Scandi starkness and chic, all clean lines and wooden tones. But before I could take this in(or enjoy the coffee/baking smells) I was distracted by an alarm going off. The slightly embarrassed girl at the counter guessed our first question and blurted out, ‘Yeahhh *beep* that alarm *beep* is going to keep *beep* going off *beep*…’(annoying just reading that, right?!). It was slightly too loud to easily ignore but the other people in there were doing their best and we decided it was probably manageable for half an hour. Ok yeah — it was the thought of a cinnamon bun that swung it ;) The barista looked relieved and took good care of us — I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Particularly halfway through our visit when the beep cranked up to a fully-fledged *EEEEEEE* as if the main fire alarm had just gone off, and she had to run over to a box on the wall to hush it back to beeping levels. We ended up starting dinner in reverse, as my mates ordered coffees and teas and I got a cinnamon bun. I fully intended to keep it for dessert and eat it after dinner like a sensible girl, honest. But then the bag was all warm in my hand… and delicious-smelling… so I thought I better have a bite to try it warm. Or maybe ten bites as it turned out. You know, to really be sure. I liked the layers inside and thought it was nice enough, but the outside was a little hard and found the inside quite dry. Perhaps with an hour to closing they weren’t as fresh as earlier in the day? I’d be willing to go back and try another(or something else from the counter of yumminess) with a coffee next time. Think it’s a cool place for a short stop or coffee date, but it’s not a cosy-up-and-while-away-the-hours kinda place. Hopefully they’ve sorted out the alarm issues too — it was pretty unsettling but as ever sometimes these things just can’t be helped and it’s more about how they deal with them. Our smiley waitress in the face of adversity was enough for me to give it a second chance :)

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon with a few friends. I was told this place is usually packed and are famous for their cinnamon buns… So here we were! I’m not by any means a cinnamon bun connoisseur(only ever had Cinnabon, and my own freshly baked ones!), this left us slightly disappointed. Maybe it’s because we didn’t get them fresh out of the oven? It was a bit dry on the outer 2 layers, but when you get to the middle, it seems quite dense and stuck to my teeth a bit. Perhaps slightly undercooked(I’ve posted a picture)? Or maybe this is how it’s supposed to be? I’m not entirely sure! Anyhow, with all the great ratings, I would come back and give the bun another try, only if it’s fresh. Flavor-wise: no complaints, nice and cinnamonny, not overly sweet and didn’t need a layer of creamy icing on it. Their hot chocolate was Nice, not to rich, just the right amount of sweetness. Will be back!
