A real institution… Not many of these specialised fish shops still exist. This one is 100% genuine. Probably the most fishy place you can get outside the sea… As you can expect it is all plastic and everything is shiny from the grease. However the fish is apparently amazing! I can contest that the fries are out pf this world, probably 50 times fried… Definitely worth at least one visit.

I bought fried fish from this place, it was disgusting. I took it to my car, and ate just a bit. Couldnt stand smell and oily taste. My car smelled bad fish for the next week, even though fish was left in my car for just half an hour. Avoid this place

The description for a 2 star review is «Meh» and I couldn’t put it better myself. I went with a friend and we shared an order of cod, plaice, chips, and peas. The peas were the highlight of the meal. Don’t get me wrong — I love peas, and these were delicious. But when mushy peas are the best part of the meal, there’s something wrong there. The chips were not undercooked, but rather barely cooked. If you don’t like your chips crispy and consider McDonald’s fries to be overdone, these are probably right for you. As for the fish… the plaice was definitely better than the cod, but that’s not saying much. The breading was mildly crispy on one side and damp on the other. Maybe they didn’t drain it before plating? Either way, it just wasn’t great. We did eat in the restaurant side, so it may be different if you get it from the takeaway side. I’m a bit sad that this seems to be my nearest chippy, but happy, because maybe I’ll lose a bit of weight by cutting back on the fish & chips!

I’ve seen several reviewers say this is the«best fish and chips shop in London.» That has me a bit worried. Don’t get me wrong — I tried the haddock and it came in huge portions with an abundance of chips. The batter and fish were very tasty. But the whole thing was quite greasy, and the chips were relatively tasteless. Afterward, you have to deal with that feeling of a grease-laden gut bomb in your stomach. For me, that outweighed the good taste. Good? Yes. The best? I’ve had similar sized portions that tasted better at the Crown Tavern in Clerkenwell.

One of the best fish and chip shops I’ve had the pleasure of getting a take-away from in London. Really good choice — everything from cod and haddock to battered sausage and even their own take on gefilte fish(which I’d usually turn down in a hurry). Top it off with really friendly staff, what more could I want? Think it’s the first time I’ve ever agreed with Giles Coren: really is the best fish ‘n chip shop in London!

Two important things: 1. Unilocal’s hours for this are wrong. Will try to change that. But in short, the place is open at 11:30am for lunch. 2. Using a credit card? They have a £10 minimum for that. I didn’t know this up front, and wound up having to buy two cans of ginger beer with my lunch just to hit the £10 mark! No ATMs nearby either. Just bring cash. Anyway, this place has both a sit-down restaurant and a take-away area. If it’s a nice day, go to the take-away counter and eat your fish & chips in the park across the street. The fish is fresh, the portions are generous, the batter is rather thin and a bit soggy(you may prefer that to the thick, crunchy, sometimes overly greasy batter that other places offer, especially in the US)… The chips were a bit too dry for my liking, to be honest. Basically this is good solid English fish & chips. The best in London? Well, only if the other options are really poor! I’ve had better in the UK, but I found Nautilus’ offerings to still be pretty good. Would go again if I’m in the area, but wouldn’t trek out to it.

The fish and chips are definitely one of the best in London. The restaurant is nice but sometimes the fish smell is way too hard when you enter and that’s not exactly pleasant. However, the staff and the excellent food compensate for any minor con you may found. Although, nobody is perfect.

Nautilus is still my absolute favourite Fish & Chip restaurant in London. In fact, in England. In fact, in the world. I don’t miss Fish & Chips when I am not in London. I miss Nautilus. I went for(an irregular choice for me) cod tonight. It was moist, chunky and full of flavour.

Found this place while on holiday with fellow NYC Unilocaler Ingrid S and was impressed by huge pieces of fish that we found upon opening the packages. An excellent chip shop that fries in Matzoh oil which guys the fish and interesting flavor. Excellent value for the money especially as we did take away and grabbed some cheap beers down the street and sat on some nearby benches enjoying our fish n chips with Fullers London Pride.

This place smells so terrible that I can’t imagine going inside and ordering food. That said, I did(we approached from upwind, apparently) and really disliked the taste of the fish and chips. Now I walk past several times a day and am always stunned to see anyone inside or at the counter. Even during their summer holiday it took over a week for the smell to go away. Go hungry, not to Nautilus!!!

To quote the All Saints«I know where it’s at»… When it comes to fish n chips. Back in my school days I would come here with a gang friends for lunch. Back in 1995, The Nautilus did chip rolls for 60 pence. It was filling and delicious. A Benson and hedges after was the order of the day. Life was good. Fast forward 5 years and i would spend my evenings in the pub a few doors up. Lining my stomach before guzzling 8 pints of Carlsberg was a necessity. Again the Ol chipper was trusty. Fast forward 11 years and I now take my little boy here for chips and stroll in the park. The point is that over the space of a few years The All Saints have disappeared and gone, mostly forgotten. The world has changed, but this place hasn’t. Good fish n chips that doesn’t rape your wallet. They tore the pub next door down a couple of years back. Bugger!

I would say this place was ok… nice service and decent fish n chips. A little over priced given the location.

If you want Fish and Chips that make you go ‘wow’ then this is the place to go. You can pimp your fish with a bit of matzo meal if you please but their batter is as good as. The portions are big, but that does make it economical if there are two of you, a haddock and chips for example will feed two quite handsomely yet you’ll still be able to move after wards without feeling that you are carrying a food baby.

Best fish and chip shop in London. Thats pretty much all there is to say it does really good fish and chips. Half a takeaway chippie and half a normal restaurant. The people there are lovely as well, if you want some chips but don’t want to go too crazy they will sell you half portions. Its just damn good.

I used to live directly across the street from Nautilus: it is a local gem. Several types of fish(and other breaded, fried treats) are available for takeaway, depending on what the day’s catch was. It’s been noted for its fish by several London online guides. The attached restaurant serves up all that and more, and lots of long-time North Londoners still make their way here — to the cheesy but minimal formica décor — for a special weekend meal. Get the fish breaded with matzo meal, not batter: way tastier, less greasy. It’s not cheap, but portions are big.
