I really want to give Mr Buckley’s more than three stars and I know I’m about to sound like an old lady, but I just found it way too loud and it took ages to be served at the bar. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun place and it was so packed we could hardly move, so it must be popular. I wasn’t impressed with the cocktail menu but if you like tequila and gin you might be. Happy hour was on until 8pm so get there before then to make the most of it as the drinks are a tad on the pricey side. There are some comfortable booths you can book for drinks downstairs. I’d highly recommend it as it was so busy. I couldn’t hear the people sat next to me because of the music. If they could turn it down just a little I think it would be a lot more fun. The staff were friendly and if you don’t mind loud music, or you’re not there to catch up with people and just want a dance and a drink then it’s a good place to go.

Came here with a group and thought it was ok, but not as exciting as one might have hoped. There is a limited/simple choice of veggie food and I probably wouldn’t have minded, except that brunch is generally a time when a herbivore expects to have the most choices. I ended up essentially ordering a dessert which was odd but was well plated. It was a tonka bean pudding which was like a dense chocolate mouse, served with lime granita. I don’t think the flavours meshed but it looked gorgeous. It was a teeny portion though for £6, so I ended up sharing some green fries with the table which were for-sure yummy.

Ordered the potato & courgette rosti, bacon, avocado & poached eggs and sausage egg sandwich, and they were good but not memorable. Maybe I need to come back and try something else. Otherwise, lots of outlets for your computers if you are looking for someone to work, and quite a chilled out vibe.

Admittedly I’ve only been here once, and was only in the downstairs area. Not bad, but not great either. Just a bit average and like every other speakeasy-esque bar these days.

Awesome brunch spot. My wife and I set out looking for a New York-style brunch today and, after being turned away at Bistrotheque due to underspecified«technical issues in the kitchen,» found ourselves at Mr. Buckley’s. I’m glad we did, because it was great. The upstairs dining space space feels warm and cozy, but with enough room for everybody to not sit right on top of each other. All the staff were great — friendly, relaxed, helpful, and never pushy. The brunch menu was just what we were looking for, and while we both wound up ordering the French toast(delicious!), we pondered the Shakshouka and a couple other items as well. The excellent side of bacon was almost American-style — thinner and crispier than the usual slabs of English back bacon. Our flat whites were tasty as well, in the flavorful but mild genre. And in true NY brunch spirit, we ordered cocktails, which might have been the best part of the whole meal. My wife had a 277, I had a gin fizz, and both were nicely balanced between sweet and tart, with barely any alcohol burn. If you like your cocktails to pack a punch, these might be a touch light for you, but with brunch they were just right. Glad to find a nice but relaxed brunch spot in the area that can stand in for some of our NY favorites.

Amazing food. Reasonably priced. You would be mad to miss this place for a cheap great quality brunch if your ever in the area. Brioche maple bacon bun is amazing

Came here for Saturday brunch for family who live locally as it’s one of their favs. They had booked a table for 11.30am but it was surprisingly quiet when we arrived. Had a spot on coffee and brunch of courgette rosti, proper crispy bacon, avocado and poached eggs. It was delicious. We had the table at the front which is nice and light, otherwise it gets a bit darker towards the back. Nice industrial style. Everyone mmm-ed their way through their brunch choices. Great spot.

Went on a Saturday night. Was packed and we started in the downstairs bar for a cocktail before migrating up for dinner half an hour after our reservation. Relatively small but good menu. Girlfriend started with venison carpaccio and I had a terrine. Both very good. Mains took a while but were both very good. Steak was very good and girlfriend had pigeon which she loved but was a little small. 3 desserts on menu. Passionfruit cheesecake was excellent, Mr Buckley chocolates a little less so. Definitely worth visiting, I would have given 5 stars but the half hour wait to get seated and long wait for mains lost it a star. I will be back though.

My partner, parents, dog and I were looking for a place to grab an afternoon cocktail and had passed by here earlier on in the day. It’s on a part of Hackney road which is very sparse for eateries/pubs so I imagine it would be quite a difficult spot to get passing trade. It has only been open for a short while, but I am sure it will get very popular soon due to word of mouth. It has a lovely laid back interior and lots of space to sit and eat/drink with your friends. The ladies working there were all very lovely and attentive to us, and the drinks we ordered were great. We were planning on eating dinner elsewhere, but the food menu looks great. I’d also like to make mention of how much I love places that are accommodating to yo — since Mr Buckley’s are newly opened, I don’t think they had a policy on whether they allow dogs or not. We had ours with us and we wanted to come in for a drink, so they welcomed him as long as he stayed on the lead. I like that they are open to looking after potential customers and I hope they continue to welcome well behaved dogs back in future, as I’d love to come back to check out the food menu.

It’s a nice space but the bar downstairs is overbearing, noise-wise, on the restaurant. A bouncer on the door for a restaurant is also rather draconian(the Ivy it is not). The waiting staff are generally helpful but seem a little clueless as to the whole process of professional floor service, unfortunately. Possibly understaffed. The kitchen was punctual with dishes but weren’t worth the wait. Sea bream was over-cooked and bland. The lobster was ridiculously meagre and more akin to crayfish, while the mac-cheese accompanying it might as well have been microwave tesco standard. Generally the menu was rather predictable and bland. Cocktails were solid but if you been to the Connaught you know it’s standard. I can see what the owners are trying to achieve but they fall vastly short. As is the way in this part of the world novice palette reviews will keep the punters streaming in but the standard is mediocre and the portions pathetic — one of our party resorted to a self-made chip butty post dinner to make up for the shortfall in portion size.

I wanted to order everything from their inventive brunch menu and will certainly be back to complete the mission. My potato and courgette rosti with poached egg and avocado was superb and washing it down with a breakfast cocktail and a very good cup of coffee was the perfect start to my Sunday. It started to fill up when we left so I’ll be getting there early in future.

This place gets busy from 7PM onwards, make sure you book your tables! Lovely list of cocktail, which is delicious(especially the espresso martini one). Also heard the Rhubarb drink is decent as well. Not bad of a wine list either, just not exactly the cheapest thing I’d pay. They serve some small dishes which is good for sharing, a little pretentious for their setting… and the area. The basil infused ricotta balsamic dip was too heavy on the balsamic side, which sort of overpowered the whole dish… Also, white bread, seriously? It’s east london for god’s sake. The asparagus and quail eggs was alright, small, with some fancy bubbly thing going on and a few strands of grass hanging here and there. Anyway, brunch menu looks delicious. Do try!

Had a pretty nice meal here a few weeks back. Some of the dishes were a little off but on the whole they seem passionate about their food and the lighting, atmosphere and service we’re all spot on. Had a great ham hock with homemade pickles recommend if it’s still on the menu. Their lobster mac ‘n’ cheese is something of an art work too. Ragstone cheese with beetroot dish was not great. The elements just didn’t marry together very well. We had a couple of good rhubarb cocktails too.

So I feel a bit sad for this place. There are not really any good places on Hackney Road so this is a welcome addition. I have been here three times before and at moment of writing I am here for time four. The feeling of being sad comes from the fact that every time I come the food gets increasingly worse. It started out quite decently but since I tend to order the same things I clearly notice, smaller portions, less well prepared and just well after today bad. It’s like the love and ambition which was initially there is now gone. And that sucks. And it makes me sad.

I have eaten at Mr. Buckley’s restaurant three times now(twice for dinner and once for brunch) and I am definitely a big fan. As a lover of the ‘small plate’ restaurants popping up around London, the menu was varied, interesting, tasty and a great way to share food with friends. Very excited to see what’s on the new menu!
