If you’re a fan of laksa, definitely go here. And if you have a weird genetic reaction to cooked coriander where it taste like soap(like me), you can request to have no cilantro/coriander cooked with it since it’s all fresh. I went with the chicken laksa, which was great. All the laksa dishes my friends and I ordered came in takeaway cups for some reason though… no biggie, but perhaps an actual bowl adds more to the allure. My friend who ordered the pad thai got his on an actual plate, but noted it wasn’t the best pad thai he’d necessarily ever had. Back to the laksa though… awesome. Lots of flavour and rang true to home.

I was excited when I passed this place, as I thought it might be a Tibetan restaurant selling momo. Unfortunately, however, there were no dumplings on the menu. Instead it’s a mix of Thai and Malaysian food. I tried it anyway, and had a pretty good chicken laksa to take away for £6. The portion was pretty big, had a reasonable amount of chicken in it, and had quite a kick. I’ll definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

I ordered lunch delivery and it arrived bang on time at 12.30pm! Awesome! +++ Yay’s! Food tasted great! Arrived warm on a freezing day, didn’t have to reheat. Pad Thai and Summer Prawn Roll servings were massive! — - — Nay’s! Thai Green Curry tasted great and was very flavourful but the serving was small and the rice was soggy and seemed like it had been from the previous day and microwaved. Sauces for the Summer Prawn Roll was only 1⁄3 full.

Momowich is a great little place for lunch in the Aldgate area. It has a few tasty Malaysian dishes and some Thai dishes at reasonable prices. I’ve had Nasi Goreng(friend rice) with either Malaysian chicken or satay chicken and really enjoyed both. On one day they had no Nasi Goreng left, so I had Pad Thai(noodles) with chicken. It was OK but wasn’t as tasty as I would expect from a Pad Thai, so I think I’ll stick with the Malaysian dishes in future. They have a selection of cold drinks but I like the Malaysian milk tea.

Momowich used to be a favourite lunchtime haunt of mine at my old company. It’s on Commercial St, right in the middle of Aldgate East, The City, Shoreditch and Spitalfields Market. Momowich does the best baguettes with a bit of an oriental twang. The beef rendang is incredible(INCREDIBLE) people. Get it. Also the satay chicken options are good. So try those as well. Oh, and the pad thai as well. Ok, you all get it. I like Momowich. I’m done. Best to take out here as there isn’t much space to sit.

I work just down the street and Momowich is a weekly lunch spot for me. I always get the same thing when I pop-in, either the Beef Rendang(has just the right amount of a spicy kick) with lots of salad, or the Pad Thai. Small portions are still really filling and the prices are friendly.

This is a good luncheon spot for those who work in the city. My nasi goren with satay chicken and spicy something curry was delicious(though I’d rather have my chicken on a stick and stickier) and gigantic. I love the fact that they are super flexible and you can just point and bits of food and they’ll shove it in a big plastic bowl for you. Excellent!

After attending the Craft Beer Festival in Brick lane I was craving for some spicy Thai food, so decided to Unilocal the nearest places and came across this one! This is more of a take away than a restaurant because there were not enough sitting arrangements. The staff didn’t seem like they wanted any customers even though the place was completely empty when I walked in. They had a good menu but sadly half the things on the menu wasn’t available. Having said that I have to say the chicken dumpling was very delicious, but I cant say the same about the Thai Green Curry(I have had much better ones). I was impressed with their quick service but cant say the same about their behavior because they were not very friendly even though it was around 5 pm in the evening! Verdict: If you want to grab a quick bite of Thai food when you are around brick lane then you could try this out but I wouldnt rate it in any other way!

I recently moved to the area for work and have just discovered Momo’wich. What a gem! As a Singaporean, I highly rate their chicken rice lunchbox tasty rice, with excellent home-made chili sauce(essential, has got a good kick to it too) but if they provided the soup with it then they’d really nail the dish! Today I tried the prawn laksa which was very nice and had some good spiciness to it, especially for the rainy weather. To our delight, the chef brought out a bowl of steaming hot bak kut teh soup for us to try which wasn’t on the menu. Bak kut teh is one of my favourite Malaysian/Singaporean dishes, and the soup was exactly what I wanted it to be full in herbal flavour and aromatic. Absolutely delicious and hit the spot. Their range of local cold drinks like chrysanthemum and honey was excellent as well. To top it off, they had a limited but very tasty selection of local desserts. If they were to introduce more kueh(malay cakes and sweets) like kueh lapis in the future, I would be over the moon. The staff are friendly and efficient, and I have to thank the chef for his hospitality and generosity. Without a doubt, I’m making Momo’wich my new local lunch(and dinner) spot for when I want a taste of home!

I’m absolutely thrilled with Momo’wich. I’ve tried both the beef and lamb rendang and both were mouthwateringly delicious. Sidney’s also done his best to recreate some dishes from the little island nation we both hail from, such as roti john and Singapore laksa, which I’m planning to try during my next visit. If you’re looking for something a little more substantial than a sandwich, you can swap the bread for rice for a quid more. And it’s not just any rice, it’s coconut rice(nasi lemak) too. As you might have guessed, Sidney is the owner of this little café located near Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane. He’s recently revamped his menu and extended his opening hours to take advantage of the longer days, which is absolutely awesome, because I don’t work in the area. Momo’wich also offers a loyalty scheme: one stamp for every £5 spent. Five stampes gets you a free drink, and five more gets you a free sandwich. Best of all, you can get a small pot of sambal belacan(chilli) here for 50p. It’s a great little reminder of home for me, but those of you who aren’t used to it, be warned that it is incredibly spicy. I’m told it had a European in tears!

So nice I ate here twice … two days in a row in fact. I’ve been working a freelance gig this past week on Fashion St just off Commercial St and was pleased to find on my lunchtime foraging expedition that Momo’wich had recently opened. This clean and pleasant little eatery offers a fresh take on the Southeast Asian baguette. I had a very satisfying beef rendang sandwich — and at under a fiver very good value — on my first visit and liked it so much I went back the next day to try another. Noodle soups, puffed pastries, spicy Thai chicken wings, fresh teas and juices … the menu at Momo’wich is refreshing and one I hope to explore a little more in the next few weeks. The smiling folks behind the counter are friendly and appreciative too. Pleased!
