Wasn’t the best Indian food, but there are not a lot of options in this part of town. The chicken tikka didn’t have much flavor and the meat was a tad dry.

I always moan about how few restaurants there are in Rotherhithe and Canada Water, and I’m often asked if I go to the ones that there are, forcing me to admit that the event is rare. So purely in the interests of becoming less of a hypocrite, I decided to sample Mogul one Friday evening. It’s your quintessential British Indian restaurant, which reminds me of family lunches out in my provincial hometown. I found the service warm and I felt welcome — always a plus! I plumped for lamb tikka masala, and I’m sorry to say it was a tad disappointing. The lamb was slightly tough, but moreover, it’s served as a dry curry. Everyone knows that a tikka masala is a saucy curry! Oh, Mogul gets an extra point for being a weird extension to a council block. Very unusual, so a charming quirk in my book.

I’ve never eaten in the restaurant, so I’m not sure what the food is like when it comes straight out of the kitchen. Mogul is quite a small restaurant, no more than 6 tables I’d say. We get takeaway from here every so often — it’s the closest Indian takeaway to where we live, so we can just pop down the road. We quite like Mogul as it’s got all the basics covered(like chicken korma) and poppadoms! While it may not be the best Indian takeaway we’ve ever had, it’s certainly the most convenient and we will continue to get our takeaways here!

Indian takeout is meant to be bad. This one is particularly awful. The only saving grace is that it’s a 5 minute walk away from where I live and we can expect a quick delivery. The biriyani is like rehashed fried rice with badly cooked meat. And what on earth is biriyani sauce? The vegetarian food tastes like really bad tofu made from cheap soybean. Ugh ugh ugh … A request for a partial refund will seem like the most tortuous ordeal and you will, like me, regret the second you decided to ask for one. On painful insistence, someone from the restaurant came home with a £7 refund for a partially cancelled order. The visit included an oral campaign on quality and perfection as practiced by Mogul. At the end of it all, the complimentary salad with soggy lettuce will seem like a blessing. Can someone please recommend half decent Indian food?

There’s a bit of a shortage locally of good Indian restaurants and this place is not a good Indian restaurant. It’s amazing the number of different dishes you can have here that all look and taste as if they have exactly the same bland sauce. After trying this place a few times and being disappointed each time we gave up and searched further a field for some tasty spicy food.
