While this place has been here for ages, selling massive doughnuts, pastries and all round sweet things(which aren’t toooo shabby), they must have recently had a brainwave. And that brainwave was to sell subs, filled with meat and cheese and topped with as much salad as the customer wants. Unfortunately Subway had that idea first so inevitably I’ll have to compare Miss Ellie’s to them at some point! Service was lovely, though it was a bit strange being served sandwiches by a man who probably goes to the gym at least twice a day. The two guys there were very friendly and couldn’t have done enough to help everyone, plus they smiled which is always a bonus. I went for a BBQ chicken sub. Unlike Subway their meat selections are either supermarket deli style, or school dinners style — my BBQ chicken was in a thick sauce and ladled onto the sub. Thankfully, unlike its appearance it wasn’t too saucy(haha!) and sat well. They cook all their bread in house and have a decent selection, which is more ciabatta like(though not completely) than the Subway version, meaning the Miss Ellie’s sub itself is easier to handle, but being a bit more rigid means you can’t get as much filling inside, and I felt a bit short changed on the salad part. However the bread itself is pretty good. Their prices are maybe slightly cheaper than Subway and their«Sub of the Day» poster shows that they’re definitely influenced by the bigger chain. This means than anyone’s first thought on stepping through the door is «Subway» and Miss Ellie’s will always be judged thus. Having said that, they’ve done well, with a variety of different fillings on top of the regular selection. I would go back, as I don’t much like the South Ken Subway branch(about 5 seconds walk from here) but next time I’ll see how much salad they can cram in as it was tasty and a good attempt at a class of sandwich with a high benchmark set.

I gotta say this place is a lot better than you think it might be so defnitely give it a go! If you’re in South Kensington I’d suggest going here rather than Subway as its much cheaper and FAR tastier. I had the veggie option on gorgeous honey oat bread, ’twas very tasty and satisfying! really filling! but the girl serving me was quite rude… but hey ho! the sandwich was good!

It’s alright here at Miss Ellie’s, nothing spectacular but does exactly what you need. It’s a small café-type place in South Kensington(just near the tube station) and very handy for a bite to eat especially if you’re on the go as just about everything they offer is handheld(croissants, panninis, massive doughnuts, cookies, tea, coffee, soft drinks, pasties etc. etc. etc). There are seats and tables inside but not many. The prices are fairly reasonable given the area(my pannini was £3.49 I believe) and on my 2 or so previous visits, whatever I’ve eaten from Miss Ellie’s has been rather nice. I’ll be popping back in if I’m in the area and a bit peckish, farewell for now, Ian

No, not Miss Millie’s U silly… this is Ms Ellie’s. And it’s not half bad. It’s a nice, nay even good, bakery. So there’s your typical rows of croissants and pastry with chocolate in, for the Kensington scene to gorge themselves upon. It’s small premises, which lets the ‘experience’ down. So tables are quite cramped together, and you’re sitting on those cheap metal table and chairs, so if it’s cold, like it is at the moment, maybe not great to sit outside. They standardly do coffee, out of at least a proper coffee machine. But really, nothing that excels. I’d only really come here for a pastry. Not the whole café or coffee shop experience, grap something and move. Miss Ellie’s has none of the kind of cosy little corners that you’d want to spend a long time in. So good bakery, just not great as a coffee shop… Hhhmmm
