We were puttering around High Street Ken last night thinking about dinner and there is actually a dearth of good places there. My boyfriend said he’d had a great time at a work dinner at Mimino, the Georgian restaurant. I have to say the place was totally empty at 7pm on a Wednesday night but it’s good to support local businesses. We ordered the Baxe, which was meant to be chicken in walnut sauce — but came out as cold chicken in what tasted like a cold tandoori sauce. I am no expert in Georgian food, so that is probably right, but was just not to our tastes. And a bread covered in cheese which, in all fairness, was just a cheese pizza and who doesn’t like cheese pizza. We split a veal kebab which came out with the world’s smallest roast potatoes. I can’t say I’d go back for the food, but the highlight was the Georgian wine we ordered. It was delicious.

I’ve been here a couple of times, the first we went for mains which were really nice. I had the lamb stew and my friend had the beef. Both were full of flavour and generous with the meet. The best thing about it though was the bread which is absolutley amazing. Its sort of like naan bread but about a hundred times softer, so good!!! Second time, we went for the mezze. Not being familiar with georgian food i can’t comment on how good it was. I will say though that the chicken in walnut sauce scared me a bit the meat was a bit gristly so watch out.

Finally got around to going to Mimino, which has Georgian food, not Italian. It’s hidden on a side street(not really on High Street), so I randomly walked by it one day. The food is great — my wife and I split a imeruli(a stuffed cheesy bread) and we each had one of the«stews» — lamb for me and beef for my wife. We went on a Friday night and they have live music when we left. The décor and the music is definitely pretty old school — an interesting mix of formal and cheesy. A good place to go and have a long, relaxing meal with a large group.

I am born in Georgia but have lived majority of my life in the US before moving to London.(16 years in the US.) Last weekend, I was craving some authentic Georgian food and on the web I found Mimino. My thoughts at the moment couldn’t believe that there was a Georgian restaurant in London. I thought, I was going to have to fly to Georgia for a weekend trip. Well, after finding the restaurant on the web, it didn’t take me long to make the reservation for the next day. I invited my boyfriend and two friends who have never eaten Georgian food and are very hard critics when it comes to restaurants. Their standards of a good restaurant is Gorden Ramsey, Nobu, Galvin, Hakkasan, etc. After ordering a bottle of Georgian wine, Ukrainian beers, starter sampler plater, Baxe(chicken in walnut sauce), 2 orders of Xachapuri(plat bread with cheese), Baby grilled chicken, Kababs(Lamb and Pork), and two orders of Kxinkali(Georgian dumplings), we were so full and satisfied that there was absolutely no room for anything else. However, after seeing the another table order the dessert, we couldn’t help but order three pieces. The dessert something unbelievable. I remember my mom making this dessert at home and naming it my favorite dessert, even today. The food at Mimino is authentic Georgian and it is absolutely delicious. You won’t come out disappointed after visiting Mimino. Make sure to go hungry and take all the left overs. The food is just as yummy the next day. All of my three guests came, they were WOWED and shocked of how amazing Georgian food tastes. They were extremely happy and can’t wait to go back. I also can’t wait to go back.

Georgia is famous for its food and wine and this is one of the very few places in London where you can try it! They’ve got all the traditional specialties and an extensive wine list. The place has got a bit of an 80s feel with fake plants and spotlights but the décor definitely adds to the charm. On weekends they have also got live music a singer with a keyboard playing typical Russian restaurant song selection. A meal for two with a bottle of wine will probably cost you in the region of £50 but the food is definitely worth it. They’ve got all the favourites badrijani(aubergines), satsivi(chicken in walnut sauce), kharcho lamb soup, chakhokbili chiken etc. The portions especially the mains are huge. If you want a taster of Georgian food, I would probably just pick and mix from the hot and cold starter list. For a party of two, I would pick say three or four starter dishes, and perhaps a soup each, or the dumplings to share. In fact, they offer a set selection of starters for two which could be a safe bet if you want a taster. And don’t forget the delicious homemade cheesy flatbread! Highly recommended.
