M1lk was the first restaurant I ate in after moving to London. I was feeling homesick and stumbled in to the Balham location. I tried the homemade cornbread with honey and an iced coffee. I’m from the South — pretty sure this is the best cornbread I’ve ever had. The iced coffee was absolutely delicious. I’ve also tried the baked eggs with butternut squash and feta cheese, and I’ve tried the sweet corn fritters. Everything I’ve had has been tasty and fresh. Very friendly and unpretentious staff. My only complaint… and it’s not with them, is the long lines that form on the weekend. It’s best to get there at 8am when they open or be ready to sit outside and eat. I’m already getting bummed about leaving this Summer — am going to miss Milk! Wish they’d open one in Tampa, Florida. :)

The food was great(had the Convict) but the customer service left a little to be desired. It’s definitely worth it for the food items but hopefully they’ll get nicer, more accommodating staff. My friend specified that she would like scrambled egg whites which they confirmed they could do but ended up not doing it and saying they couldn’t actually do it(egg whites are fairly easy to make, don’t know what the issue was)

Usually very sceptical of places with long queues not living up to the hype! I was put in my place by milk café though. We got there just before the line at about 11am, but when we were leaving it was really long. We had amazing sweetcorn fritters with haloumi, smoothies in milk bottles, and great coffee. Definitely can’t complain with this brunch spot.

Perfect little Melbourne style café to help ease the homesickness. Comforting to see Anzac biscuits and lamingtons on display. Went for brunch with an Aussie friend to recover from big Halloween night. I had the convict with yummy hangover sauce with a Lois Smoothie: blackberry, pear and lavender. My friend had a Lauren Smoothie: Mango, banana and strawberry with sour dough toast with plum and lavender jam. This was a very cozy café with a fantastic menu. Only felt it was missing a sweet option like pancakes. Defiantly will go again if in the Balham area. TIP: Expect a wait time for your table as there is usually a queue. We waited 10 – 15 minutes.

5stars from me for this fabulous brunch spot! After a very tiring week, I was v. annoyed to find myself wide awake at 6.30am on a Saturday and I couldn’t get back to sleep. Argh! I decided to make the best of it, and a flash of inspiration reminded me that I had bookmarked this place to visit for brunch sometime but I had pretty much decided I would never get there because it is very popular and they don’t take bookings, and I’m not(usually) an early riser at the weekend and I do not like to queue for a table! It turns out that being wide awake at stupid o’clock can be the best thing to happen to you! I was about the 3rd person to arrived at m1lk shortly after it opened at 8am so I had my pick if the tables. I chose the best seat in the house, the table right in the tip of this flat-iron shaped building so I had views all around me of the street outside waking up, and the market setting up. It’s a slightly self-consciously hipstery dude place — all beards and mismatched furniture and achingly artisanal produce like Brixton sourdough and hay smoked goats curds — but it kinda works and it has a relaxed, buzzy feel about it; and the food — oh my, the food is incredibly good. I ordered what seemed to be a favourite among the Unilocal reviewers — the sweet Maria sweetcorn pancakes(fritters?) with halloumi and salsa and dry cure bacon and avocado and it was divine. The pancakes were fluffy and sweet, the halloumi and the bacon were salty and savoury with just the right amount of charring to balance the fritters. The salsa was deliciously tangy and sweet and tomatoey — it tasted somehow like summer /and this too was the perfect balance to the creamy mashed avocado on the side. My accompanying flat white was gloriously malty. It’s not a cheap brunch option but I don’t mind paying a premium for such great quality food that sets you up for the day like this. I’d like to say i will definitely be back, but by the time j left at around 9.30am, the place was mobbed so the chances of me being awake early enough to get a table again are slim. In fact, no, scrub that — I will be back, even if I have to set my alarm clock. A brunch so good, I’d set my alarm at the weekend? There genuinely is no higher praise!

This place has outstanding coffee and food. You can tell a lot of love has gone into every ingredient. The staff is also very polite. Can’t wait to come back.

I’ve lots of friends that live south and they’ve raved about M1lk for a while. This weekend I finally made it! Despite the long(but expected) queue it was fine as we stood in the sun and chatted until we were seated. I must say the staff were a bit rubbish at minimising the queue… We saw empty tables the entire time we were there and no rush to fill them. Not a fan of that! I am however a fan of the delicious food. We all had variations of the sweet Maria… Sweetcorn fritters with avocado and halloumi, topped with salsa, mine with added bacon and a poached egg. It was amazing! I couldn’t stop talking about how tasty it was. I washed it down with the Lauren(it had to be done!)… Mango, banana and strawberry juice in a very fitting milk bottle. All in all it was a great brunch experience. Good food, lovely interior, nice setting. It was a little pricey, but I’m okay with that for a fab brunch!

Really lovely for weekend brunch. Not exactly cheap so it’s a treat but well worth it. Very trendy but relaxed and fun. Go early to beat the queues and take cash.

This is one of the best brunch places in London, luckily for me it is just around the corner from where I live. Good food, coffee and vibe. Plus I like the water jugs with lemon and herbs! It gets busy so get there early if you plan on visiting on the weekends, otherwise you will need to queue.

Good brunch but be aware it’s cash only. Went here on a Thursday early afternoon and the place was still hopping. Can’t even imagine how crowded it gets on weekends. Definitely a must go if you can get a place to sit! Decent size portions and good iced coffee.

One of the best brunch/breakfast places I know. In a cute sidestreet in Balham. Serves amazing juices, cakes and cooked breakfasts. Especially nice on a sunny day catching up with friends. Worth a visit! it’s gets pretty busy so you will most likely have to wait but so worth it!

Best breakfast spot in London. Particularly when the weathers nice it is lovely to sit outside on the benches. Delicious smoothies arrive in milk bottles and their sausage bacon egg sandwich is so delicious. Cannot recommend more than enough. !!!

The food here is SOGOOD! Really lovely antipodean brunch style menu and the coffees are great. I love eating on the benches on the pavement when the sun is out — it’s far enough away from the main road to not be surrounded by traffic noises. There’s usually a bit of a line on weekends but that’s because it’s so good!

I had such an enjoyable lunch at m1lk. I wasn’t sure what my taste buds were in the mood for so I asked for suggestions. The young bloak at the counter(yurp…totally immersed myself in the culture) suggested that I try the sweet corn fritters which turned out to be a great selection. Fritters with avacado, haloumi cheese, salsa, and bacon made for a really nice combo of flavors. A small quaint environment with a nice soundtrack in the background made for a nice nibbling spot.

I finally went for brunch at M1LK — it had some big shoes to fill(plates to fill?)…we had built up expectations since planning for it back in February. No, literally. A plate of brunch 6 weeks in the making: Sorted out the crew that would accompany me(serious brunchers only!). Sorted out the time(right when it opens, please!). Even sorted out my meal choice(fritters or breakfast sammich, yes!). We got there and were seated quickly: hurrahs!(Tip: opens at 9, so be there at 9) Though teeny, the space is super-cute and creatively arranged to maximize the small space(one high communal table, little clusters of inside seating, outside picnic table-style seating). The menu is perfect in length; diverse, but without overwhelming choice(I say this as a definite pro, being an indecisive bruncher). Various combos of breakfast meats and eggs and riffs on the benny. The coffee is Workshop, and the flat white they made was deliciously on-point and in a beautiful robin’s egg blue cup. I ultimately opted for a breakfast«sandwich»(note: too large to eat as such) with buttered buns, scrambled eggs, bacon, a triangle of hash brown, a sausage patty and«hangover sauce». Hangover sauce! What attracted me in the description was what killed the execution. The sauce was… not well-received at our table(2⁄3 of us made the same order). My pal described it as «barbecued salsa»…in a bad way. And it was room temperature and just totally killed the flavour and temperature and crispness of the other(delicious components). There were attempts made to scrape away, to work around and yet… that sauce. Dealbreaker. Prices fair, good vibe, nice bustle. Want to give it another try with some different choices. Unilocal note: one loo, so… do as I say not as I did: don’t wait until the very last minute to rush down to the basement. Also: CASHONLY!

Had a fantastic Sunday brunch at M1LK. As ever it was very busy, so we were sat in the awning outside, but it was still warm enough. I ended up having three flat whites as they were so tasty, just the right balance of milk and coffee. I had the sweet corn fritters with haloumi and avocado, with a side of bacon, and it was just delicious! The fritters were lovely and light, cheese cooked to perfection, and the avocado was ripe and full of flavour. Highly recommended

I really enjoyed this place! it has a funky hipster alt vibe in Balham… I mean their name is spray painted over the last business that used to be there so I almost walked past it as I couldn’t read the sign from the street clearly. It was super busy when we arrived so we had to fight for a seat so come with some patience. I had the Kurdish Baked eggs with Chorizo, Spinach, Labneh, & Kirmizi Biber. Labneh is a beautiful touch it is a strained yogurt like cheese. Truly enjoyed my dish and will be sure to make another brunch date here soon! I would give it 5 starts if it had more variety on the menu and more seats!

I’m a fan! The place is just what Balham needed and the food is great. I’ve been a number of times and it does not falter. Great for brunch, coffee and cakes! Love the décor. Kx

The breakfast here is really good and creative. For that, it gets 5 star. The one star deduction comes from the fact that this place is way too small. They’ve essentially used a triangle shaped leftover corner space, which makes dining here an incredibly cramped experience. Except in the summer, when you can sit outdoors. If going on a Saturday or Sunday, be prepared for queues and a long wait.
