It’s a Fuller’s pub so there’s the standard beers and drinks behind the bar. The pub is quite big and it was clean. We were a pretty loud and rowdy bunch so it was nice of them to not kick up a fuss! I love the flowers on the outside of the pub and think it would be a great place to have a pint in the summer.

I popped into the Melton Mowbray last Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t over crowded when we arrived but did get a lot busier towards early evening. The décor is very traditional and it’s nice and clean the tables didn’t have that slightly sticky surface that a lot of bar tables seem to have. As we were feeling peckish after a couple of pints we ordered a portion of chips and I have to say they really were the best pub chips I’ve ever had, not at all greasy but lovely and crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside perfect accompanied with generous dollops of ketchup and mayonnaise. I’ll definitely be going back to get more of their fab chips if nothing else!

Popped in here today for lunch. I’ve not been here for ages… Well I must say things here have not changed much except the food is a bit better. That said the service is a bit erm? Random. 1 steak and 1 venison pie were ordered(not both for me) one with chips the other with mash, we were told that they had run out of venison pies so this was changed to chicken and leek. When the food arrived both had chips(no mash as ordered) and confusingly one of the pies, to my delight, was venison, the waitress explained this was denoted with a large ‘V’ cut into the pastry(clever). Upon cutting into said pies my friend noticed that his was chicken and not steak, we queried this only to be told that the one with a ‘V’ was actually steak(hmmm! Not so clever after all). We swapped plates and tucked in. To be honest the food was good and tasty, though the mixed veg were a little cold, probably due to the faffing about trying to work out what we were about to eat. Got to the bill, no real surprise as the prices were on the menu but I concur with other Qypers it is a little on the steep side £10 for a pie is not on, not even in London unless you are some swanky restaurant opposed to a spit and sawdust pub and the service was well below par. …I’ve not been here for ages and I won’t be back in a hurry either!

This pub is alright, but it’s just too expensive. I’d personally rather go the Wetherspoons just along the road. It lookslike most Fullers pub look. They have the usual fullers beers including the refreshing Discovery and the scary should-be-illegal Golden Pride. There is a large ground floor and a raised area at the back that you can book out. The service is quick and friendly. I didn’t try the food but it is Fullers so that usually means average food at above average prices. They should seriously invest in some air conditioning too! Plenty of nicer pubs in the area.

Not a bad example of the Fuller’s Ale & Pie House, with a traditional feel. Very busy at lunchtimes and after work, but much more peaceful later in the evening(say, after 9pm). The interior looks like it has had a modern refurbishment in recent years, albeit in a traditional style with lots of wood. There’s a small outdoor area with tables at the front but, being right on Holborn, it’s rather like sitting on a main road, so seems to be used only by smokers who have to use it. They serve the usual range of Fuller’s beers(Discovery, London Pride and ESB) plus a guest ale. The food is their take on traditional pub grub which, as well as pies, includes generous portions of fish and chips. Staff seemed efficient enough, if not especially friendly. Then again, it’s hardly a ‘local’ pub, since most of its clientele are office workers. Overall, OK for a quick pint if you are in the area and feel the need for a pint of ESB. If it’s character you want, however, the Mitre is only a minute or two away.

A busy pub with a very good selection of pies. I had the Chicken, Smoked Bacon and Puy Lentil Pie which was a good mix of flavours. Service was quick at lunchtime and you’ll find it is a legal hangout so keep your ears peeled for interesting stories! Also has free wifi which is always a plus.

Standard city boozer, which is pretty reasonable but does get pretty darn busy. The pies are worth a visit, and the pub has a suitable selection of beers. Not at all offensive, and on the high street so easy to find.

Compared to the Old Bank of England(five minutes’ walk away) this is a much better example of a typical Fullers establishment. Always busy at lunch-times and early evening, and often attracting big crowds that spill out onto the Holborn pavement on summer nights, it has a mixed clientele drawn mainly from the many local professional services firms and university sites. The lagers are good enough, the ales are(as is to be expected with Fullers) well kept, the ale pies are great, and it’s got just the right balance between seating and standing areas to remain lively without turning into a ‘vertical drinking’ pub.

A Fullers Pie and Ale house, this place is a favoure haunt of the legal execs who work in the area. You won’t find many barristers here, but legal clerks and students find this place just up-market enough. Usual well kept fullers ales and lagers and wonderfill pies are the order of the day here, but the staff are the achilles heel, as they seem to change with the seasons. Still, as modern pubs go, this one is a good example of money well spent
