I had brunch at Megan’s and really loved it. Eggs royale was plentiful with a great hollandaise. They have some great looking baked goods and pastries(will have to partake next time). The icing on the cake(so to speak) is that they allow dogs in the restaurant which is great news for my labrador!

I have been looking for a new breakfast place to frequent regularly and I think I may have found it. Megan’s is a very cute and unassuming place situated in the centre of St. John’s Wood. I order a Shakshuka with chorizo and though you don’t see it that often on a menu, it is one of the best hangover dishes you can get. Their version is amazing, though in future I will ask for the poached eggs to be cooked a bit more as their standard is a bit underdone for my tastes. The sauce is perfectly tangy and spicy though. My fiancé’s eggs royale were very good. There was plenty of smoked salmon on good fresh made bread, with a nice thick hollandaise sauce. Would be hard to do better. The menu was quite was extensive and there are a lot of things that I want to try in future, esp. the waffles and pastrie! Best of all, it is dog friendly!

My family and me had a lovely chilled lunch there last Sunday. Such a cozy relaxed place sitting in the back room all lit up with pretty fairy lights. We ordered a bunch of sharing boards and drank way too much of their house wine — which, as we told the super-friendly waitress is their fault as it was too nice to be a house wine :-P Will be back with my boyfriend for a more intimate meal over a bottle of Prosecco and a gluten-free chocolate brownie for me, as you do… :-)

The ambience and delightfulness of the restaurant is what initially drew us in. The walls were covered in flickering candles and the tables outside beneath the heaters were more than cosy. After gazing over the menu there were many portions of desire but I settled on the ribeye steak, with béarnaise sauce, with a perky side of corn on the cob and fries. When our food came by looks alone we were not at all disappointed. Although I object to food being served on wooden chopping boards(hygiene?!) everything looked pretty damn amazing. Portions wise, I was happy but than again I had just upsized the basic 20quid steak to a 25quid meal. The steak was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately the over grilled crusty outside of it overpowered any tenderness and juiciness of the inside. Basically, it had the texture of a beautiful steak, but the taste of the remnants of whatever was left on the grill it was cooked on. Not fun. Overall, the service was excellent(although I do recall becoming slightly agitated by the fact that I wanted another glass of delicious wine, and then realising it took me a good 2 or 3 minutes to highlight a waiter, which is a long time when you decide you want wine!) but overall I really enjoyed my experience. Nothing to get ridiculously excited over, but certainly not bad at all.

Megan’s in St John’s Wood was totally disappointing. The whole lobster was without flesh. Good to look at but didn’t fill you up. I tried the Bavette steak and Ribeye because we had to order 3 main courses as the portions were so small. The worst possible thing you can do to a sweetcorn is over boil it and smother it in cheap butter. The chips were salty and burnt. There was a faulty towers moment as the waitress didn’t seem to understand any English so wasn’t successful in delivering our order. The lemon posset was again far too small and too expensive. The best thing about this evening was small truffles which I guzzled at home.
