The famous S&M café is dead, Long live the Meat People! (Well technically cooked non people meat). I had been planning to come here for some time but a mixture of post massage convenience and distance from the maddening crowd made it a certainty. Not normally a place for Brunch but I have to say it wasn’t bad. The service was impeccable with the only downsides being that the portions were a little small and that they no longer participate in free drink offer from Unilocal(though they did this time and it still displays on the Unilocal app, I had a very nice bloody mary). We had bubble and squeak which was beautifully made, very light and tasty. The boar sausage with halloumi was just that with very little distinguishing it apart from the relatively small portion size. We asked for the pancake with dolce de leche but as they were all out pancakes they gave us a complementary(!) caramel ice cream chocolate fondant and dolce de leche. This was something else! It was so beautiful as the roof of the fondant broke and so beautifully rich. A really nice trip where bizarrely the best things in life were indeed free. Just for the service and tasty food I’d utterly go back!

Meat and Nail People. That is all.. Molly and her short haired waitress seem very nice on the surface but, be wary if its quiet. You know those places where you get the inkling they do stuff to your food or drinks for kicks? Found a nail in my flat white and thought it was weird both of them asked me how it tasted at the end. All protein I suppose..

I had dinner in this place last night and would NOT recommend at all. The place was empty for a Saturday night, very overpriced for the quality of food(not great) drinks are served in very small glasses and are quite expensive. They tried to overcharge us for 3 drinks we didn’t order!(Good thing I checked the bill!) Also, I tried to claim the free signature cocktail announced in Unilocal when checking in, they said they had NO agreement with Unilocal and were very rude about it. Service was terrible, overall a bad experience and would not recommend.

AMAZING steak restaurant. Such delicious, high quality food for a totally decent price. We lived a five-minute walk from Meat People up until a month ago, and of all the places we could spend our last night living in London, this was where we chose to dine. We enjoyed every cocktail we tried, always got steak(though I’m sure the mains are excellent, too), and particularly enjoyed the chips, mushrooms and salad sides, plus a chimmichuri sauce to share between two. And not only do they serve top food, but the service is delightful and if you return a time or two they will remember you! So lovely to have this as a local. I only wish we could bring it to New York!!!

Quite expensive but the food and wine were great. If you feel like splurging after a long week and have an Argentinian experience this is the place to do it.

You can’t fault Meat People for their service, their steaks and their copious choice of organic wines. However, if you’ve eaten at somewhere like Hawksmoor, you won’t necessarily feel like you get value for money here at Meat People. Overall the food was fab but not enough to choose this place over any other steakhouse in london. My boyfriend and I checked in on Unilocal and were offered via the app a ‘free cocktail’… To which the waitress had said they’d informed Unilocal this wasn’t correct, but didn’t offer us anything as a nice gesture. I mean, even the cheapest restaurants offer a shot of limoncello! The restaurant itself doesn’t have the best acoustics — I could hear every word of the person three tables down, to the point I thought I was a surprise guest to their girly night! The speakers played a great mix of 70’s soul and chilled music, but one moment it was ambient and the next really quiet. I almost felt like we were intruding on the staff at one point as their conversation was louder than ours!

Went here recently after it was recommended to me many times by different people. I have to say thoses recommendations did not lie. Its a small restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is just fantastic they really know what they are doing in the kitchen the quality of the ingredients they are using really stands out and the chefs skills are just fantastic. Its been a long time since i have had a steak that good it was just perfect in every way shape and form, good size perfectly cooked and full of flavour, all washed down with a beautiful bottle of red. This is definitely a place I will be going back too for sure.

Fresh, delicious, authentic food. A hidden gem… You must go to this restaurant! Great service and lovely atmosphere. The meat is fantastic but I had the fish and it was sublime. From start to finish delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert… Can’t wait to go back. Winner!

Thus pleasant litttle place is hidden within a side street in Angel. The restaurant was quiet even on a Friday evening, which I think is very good if you want to catch up with friends. The staff were very friendly. When I asked her to recommend a red wine, she was kind enough to let me taste different options before I make my decision. On to the food, the starters were brilliant. We ordered a seabass dish and pork. Both were fresh, full of flavours and very delicious. The main was mediocre. The meat was cooked well but I can’t say it was the best Lamb and duck I have had. For dessert we ordered a panacotta. It wasn’t very nice… the panacotta was not soft enough and the toppings that came with it just didn’t really go together. The bill was a bit expensive. I think for £42,its enough to get me a Michelin meal. Overall, pleasant experience, but desserts need more work.

If you like meat, this is a great spot to dine in Angel. It was my first time there and we ordered a bottle of red wine, the Crab Cakes and Pork Belly to start, the Meat People Platter 600g with béarnaise sauce, and a side of mushrooms and beans to share with two other friends. The food was absolutely delicious, although all the dishes were a bit small. Even though the staff was very friendly, we had to wait a long time to be served and we were told only after we finished all the food to try the fish dishes because they were recommended to have in the summer. This was weird. Also, there was no air-conditioning so it was sweltering hot inside, not very pleasant when you’re about to eat meat. Lastly, I was a bit disappointed because on the Unilocal app we were promised a free cocktail if we dined, only to find out it was expired.

I’d heard of this place from a few friends that live in the Islington area, so when I saw it featured on a deal on Amazon Local, buying it was a no brainer.(I paid £29 for a £65 voucher at the restaurant, which you can use on both food and drink.) We ordered the Malbec(wines are generally £20−30, so reasonable), and the crab cakes and pork belly for appetizers. They were both quite small dishes, with 2 crab cakes and 1 piece of pork belly, so actually not ideal for sharing between 3 people. They were both quite tasty though, especially the pork belly with its lovely sweet potato purée. And we ordered the 600 gram sharing platter with 3 different cuts of meat, which was actually the perfect amount. It was all cooked wonderfully, and the béarnaise sauce that’s an extra £2 was also quite nice. For sides, we got the mushrooms and the green beans… I would love to know what sauce the mushrooms are cooked it, because I can’t get over how good those were! So the food was great, but other aspects were not so hot… First of all, the restaurant is not very big, to the point that I bumped into the girl sitting behind me multiple times, and it was boiling hot inside after a sunny day(London heat wave, I know, but there should be some fans or something!) And when we first sat down, it took us about 15 minutes to flag down a waitress, as there were only about 2 for the whole restaurant, and they seemed stressed out all the time. Then when we did speak to them, they would go off for another 5 minutes before they said they had time to come over. Can’t imagine what it would be like on the weekends! And when we arrived, we checked in on Unilocal and saw that there was a free drink special for checking in, except the waitress refused to honor it and said it had expired months ago Boo…

4.5 stars Came in here with a Time Out card that gives us 2 for 1 steaks. We both ordered rib-eyes and they were both luscious and succulent — especially with the chimichurri sauce. the food was so good that it opened our appetite to have more wine, which was also good if a little pricey. overall, i would definitely return and i especially like the french diner feel of the décor.

In the old authentic space where S&M used to be is Meat People. They did manage to keep much of the space’s charms and did a nice job with wooden floors to round it out. The pluses were the attentive staff member(potential owner?) who engaged us in a deep conversation about the menu and made recommendations and managed our wine selections. The ceviche starter was good although not a big fan of cubes of salmon ceviche. The steak was delicious – I had the onglet and the wines they recommended were great. The star of the show was the chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream – I am always a fan of a chocolate fondant and this was executed with excellence. I really liked the place– the drawbacks are the price(100 quid for two) and the lack of ambiance from a crowd – very desolate on a Thursday night. I wonder if it will survive…

Last time I had a steak that perfectly cooked was in Buenos Aires… So it didn’t really strike me when at the end, the waitress told us the chef was an Argentine ;) Everything from the friendly staff, to the juicy chocolate fondant, was amazing. The crispy yet very tender medium rare Onglet steak, the meltin-in-your-mouth Beef stroganoff, the zesty Chimichurri sauce, and the perfectly cooked and seasoned sides(beans, tater mash, etc.). When I think that I walked by so many times thinking«with an anonymous shop front and cheap logo like this, this restaurant must be quite average. How wrong I was, how wrong !!!

What do you do when you’re on Upper Street and in the company of 3 slightly drunk and rather hungry men… there’s only one solution really, and it’s to head over to Meat People. MP has been open for less than a year, but in such a short space of time, it’s valiant effort for serving quality, quirky cuts of meat has got the foodies talking. My first time visiting was a few weeks ago with the aforementioned hungry drunkards in tow. The building’s interior hasn’t changed too much since the S&M days… Meat People have done a bit of a revamp but overall its still an Art Decco throwback. I’m so glad they didn’t mess it up by going ultra-modern or Gastro. That would have pissed me off. Thankfully, it’s still like walking into an American diner circa 1940… or a Parisian Bistro perhaps. Meat People’s resident bartender made me a fantastic Mint Julep cocktail to start the evening with… which I inhaled all too quickly, soon becoming the drunkest of the bunch! For my entrée, my partner and I decided to split the meat platter(around £40) which allows you to try a variety of different cuts. We got 2 types of steak(Onglet & Ribeye) as well as a lamb shank. Now, I’m quite picky about my steaks… I like them perfectly rare, moistened with the right amount of blood, and NEVER cold in the middle. It can be a tough egg to crack. I’ve sent back steaks plenty of times for failing to meet my picky standards, but i’m happy to say that the chef at Meat People nailed it! Hats off to you man! Your steaks are succulent, flavorsome perfection! I must admit that the lamb was a little bit of a let down, but this was most likely due to the steak being soooo good. I’m sure if I had chosen the lamb on its own I would have loved it(I may have suffered from bouts of food envy though). My meal was washed down with a rich, smokey Rioja — the perfect accompaniment. All in all, this is a fantastic addition to Islington and i’ll certainly be coming back for more. I wanted to try the Springbok last time, but admittedly, I didn’t know what it was. David Attenborough has since taught me what they are… and if I can get over how cute they are when they prance around in the air, I might even order one!

I’ve visited various times in the last 5 months… Meat People is still one juicy joint. Quality is consistent, food has been fantastic and the staff is as friendly as my first time. If you’re a carnivore then go show these folks sone love and they’ll meet you at the door with the same. This is certainly one of my London favorites y’all so see ya there… I’ll be enjoying a mint julep at the bar.

I was surprised to discover that no one had yet reviewed Meat People, a fairly newly opened steak and cocktail restaurant in Angel; I went there a couple of weeks ago and had a really pleasant evening. We arrived about 30 – 40 minutes before our table was booked but we were seated right away Granted, this was fairly early in the evening and it wasn’t busy. Drinks My friend and I started with a cocktail each, I went for the ‘Rose Petal Martini’ while my friend chose the ‘Silver Fizz’, they were both really very tasty. With the meal we decided to go for a bottle of wine there is really only one wine choice for a South African type steak restaurant and the Pinotage really didn’t disappoint! It was quite reasonably priced too. Food For starters my friend went for the springbok, which was delicious(I sneaked a bite), while I got the cured meat platter. I have to confess, I was a little disappointed with mine based on the other starters on the menu(the springbok and the crocodile) I was expecting something a little bit unusual but what I got was more in line with an Italian salami selection pack from the supermarket and a dish of olives. The main course more than made up for it though! I ordered the rib eye steak while my friend chose the fillet. Both were cooked perfectly!(rare). We ordered the french beans as a side and a portion on chips on the advice that this would be enough for 2 and it certainly was. The chips were lovely and fluffy but crispy and the beans very tasty. The only fault to be found with the mains was that it was all fairly salty(but in a tasty way). Fortunately there was tap water on hand. Desserts were a very difficult choice, they all sounded so nice on the menu. I went for the chocolate fondant which was perfectly cooked and my friend went for the pannacota which was less well done but I’m told still tasted very nice. We suggested them doing a dessert platter I hope they take up this suggestion so we can have a small portion of each next time we go! Service The male waiter who served us was very pleasant, flirty but not overly so. He was very helpful especially when we were deciding which sides to order with our mains. The restaurant got very busy during the time we were there and there was a high turn over of tables, despite this we were not rushed. In fact, if anything service became a little slow by the end of the night, having to ask again for another jug of water Though the waitress was very apologetic when we did. Overall A very good evening. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the restaurant to fans of good steak hence the reason for this rather lengthy review! I will certainly be going back.

Plus points — the banana and caramel dessert was UNREAL. Sweet, salty, delicious. The first Spanish waitress was lovely and thoughtful. Less good — The onglet I ordered was tough and did not have quite enough flavour. The crocodile starter was positively unpleasant… like a cheap, large, reconstituted chicken nugget.

So, finally got a chance to check out this Meat restaurant. Went for lunch there on Saturday. The place itself has not changed much since it was S&M — same décor(I think they have updated the couches but not much else). The menu is short and sweet, some fish, veggie and of course MEAT dishes! Pork belly for starter was pretty nice & tender(as one would hope) quite rich tasting. We had the meat platter to share for 2 people — this consisted of: A large Beef rib(quite fatty), a piece of Pork(tasty) and a steak(pretty noice). (Choice of 3 sauces — not included in price). Sides had to be ordered separately, we ordered the chips(yummy fresh & crispy), the courgettes and chilli — BOOHOO;-(, this was a let down; bits of courgettes drenched in oil with feck all chilli(If I didn’t know chilli was a part of the dish I would have sworn there was none in it). Overall, it was tasty, but we found it VERY oily and heavy. I guess you could order lighter dishes — like the fish, but then why bother going to a MEAT restaurant? The staff were friendly and helpful, our waiter described where in the body the cuts were from — Very good. Complementary bread — Good one. We sat near the window, looked nice but it was FREEZING! Brrrr. Unfortunately, they were missing a starter and a dessert from the menu…(it was early Sat lunch time…) It was nice, but I’ve had better for the price. I wouldn’t rush back when there are better MEAT options around London. But don’t let me stop you, check it out for yourself!
