I’ve walked through this place a number of times but I’m not sure I’ve ever purchased anything. Maybe a beer or something. It’s an M&S. You can get food here… and beer.

This was the first market that I went to when I first moved into my residence at Spitalfields. Clean, fresh, and often open longer hours than the Tesco across the street(Bishopsgate), this is my go-to food shop when I have last-minute meal needs or need a quick ready-made meal to bring home. Their sandwiches are better than Tesco — but I’m not a sandwich fan. Having tried nearly everything at Marks & Spencer, I find their salads and shrimp cocktails the best choices. I miss this place as much as I miss Liverpool Street Station.

Superbly convenient for grabbing a quick and healthy nibble, or perhaps a selection of ready-to-cook or ready-to-heat options. Of course, all at the high M&S standards makes this place a required stop whether you live here or you’re passing through to somewhere else. Prices are both above and below.

On the mezzanine level in Liverpool Street Station, this Marks & Spencer is not the full size of their regular outlets, being one of their ‘Simply Food’ express outlets, but it is jam packed with most of the essentials one requires — I actually don’t think I’ve even been in here and not found what I was after. Predominantly ready-made meals to placate the many nearby office workers, a sandwich from here is yards ahead of the nearest Tesco competition. It also stocks a good range of fresh produce, great to pick up some goodies for dinner on the way home. I’ve always found staff here really lovely and always keen to help you find things.

Although pricey, a trip to Marks and Spencer Simply Food in Liverpool Street station is sometimes just good economics. With Tesco across the road having morphed into a weird Tesco Metro/Tesco hybrid selling everything and nothing, or, more properly just attempting to cater to The City lunch crowd, avoiding M&S because of it’s prices can be a bit of a false economy. Free range eggs, wholemeal pitta breads and good shaved ham are my M&S staples, the prices? Actually better than Tesco; the quality far exceeding it. Do avoid M&S Simply Food at lunch time as the queues are surely longer than they’re bound to be at the Job Centre during the recession, but don’t skip M&S altogether. This is the place to buy good quality food in the Liverpool Street Area. Just avoid the budget-busting ready meals if you care an ounce for your wallet or your waistline.

Lunch time in the city is like a ritual! Busy city workers nervous about leaving their desk and computer screens for too long! Rushing all over the place buying lunch for themselves, or if you are further down the office food chain, buying it for your colleagues too! As we all know Marks and Sparks have built up their reputation through their food section over the past few years — it has definitely helped with slumping sales in the past! The ‘Simply Food’ slogan is the name for their food metro stores that are darted around London. The store on the upper level of Liverpool street station is the perfect place to buy a ready meal for lunch or dinner. The selection of salads, wraps, sushi, sandwiches, microwave curries, fresh prawns and snack bits is endless! Although the queue is huge between 11:30am-1:30pm it moves quickly. I also find it very useful when heading to a drinks or dinner party where I need to take chocolates or a dessert. The packaging and presentation is that little bit nicer than Tesco and everyone knows M&S food is delicious although expensive.
