Stopped in on a pub crawl and ended up staying here for hours. A little pricy as pubs go but considering the location it wasn’t anything awful. The place was a cut above the plethora of nicholsons pubs nearby and serves a wide variety of beers and cider. The good looked good but we didn’t eat any. Would definitively return to this place if in the area. On a side note we met an old man outside who lived in the area. He was really interested in talking to us. Told us trust funds kept him a local in Mayfair. What a day.

Great food for a reasonable price, really good for work lunches. Friendly and accommodating staff. The only possible negative are the hoards of suited finance office workers that flood the place from 4pm, being generally obnoxious. However if you avoid that time on a weekday, you’re set.

This is a really fun pub tucked away in a little winding street. I realize that in London pubs are a dime a dozen, but this one is worth a visit. The cider is good and the people are friendly. The food is also quite tasty for being pub fare. I’ll definitely be back. On a side note there is also a Mexican/Polish restaurant next door that I would love to try out, the combo seems interesting. Possibly a pre visit before settling into Market Tavern

I was underwhelmed for how packed this place was. This is a pub not a restaurant. The place is not very big and there were people drinking outside until almost 9pm. That being said. The food was just so-so. Several of the draft beers I wanted they were out of. Add to that, it was fairly pricey for a pub. You can find better pubs but maybe not in the Mayfair area.

Best Pub I went to in London, the service was slow sometimes but the salted caramel tart is to-die for and the burgers were delicious. The lunch time sandwiches are also spectacular! I would get the mozzarella and tomato one everyday if I could!

Blinding little spot in Mayfair. Clean, smart, friendly, good menu and plenty of hooch. Pro-vaping too. The crowd is generally the well-heeled local chaps — clearly very minted. That said, not overly pretentious and a great spot of a couple of beers.

Always crowded, but not so much that you can’t order at the bar. They have a nice selection of beer on tap that seems to change every now and then. And the staff is always friendly.

I can’t comment on the beer/drinks because I was there for lunch and can’t mix drinking with productivity. It’s one or the other and today I chose the former. But I can say that on Sundays they offer several classic roasts(beef, chicken, pork and veggie/nut something), plus a full menu of other stuff(burgers, fish & chips, etc). Loved my roast beef platter, which featured 3 giant slabs of meat, a nice gravy and a good-sized Yorkshire pudding. It also came with roasted potatoes, carrots, veg and greens… but these were pretty basic. It was the mains that did the trick. The place was humming for a Sunday lunch and the staff were nice and friendly, though could have been slightly more attentive throughout the meal(by the time I was asked for a refill, I was done eating). There didn’t seem to be any TVs — everyone was engaged in conversation. I’m guessing it would be a nice pub at night, based on the vibe. I do know it’s a nice place for lunch during the day. Is it the best place for Sunday Roast? Heck, I’m going to need a few hundred more Sundays in order to make that call.

They had one of the better beer selections I found during my brief stay in London. Certainly not to the quality and breadth of what I’m used to but then again I’m from Seattle where I have a dozen craft brewers just in my neighborhood. Beyond the drinks, the food was great. I had the salmon cakes which were fantastic. Finally, the place was cosy and the staff were friendly. It’s also not a mega chain, which was surprisingly hard to avoid.

Finally — a pub not owned by a massive chain company! Nice décor inside and upstairs dining room with decent food and a good wine list. I’ve eaten here a few times. The service can be really slow but for a London pub, the food is good. They do a vegetarian version of the Sunday roast, which I appreciate.

I wish this place were across the street from our flat! This is the kind of place I could really become a regular at if it were closer to where we lived. It’s quiet enough to take the edge off after a day of work without being boring, and lively enough to be exciting and uplifting without driving you crazy. Very cosy interior and welcoming bar staff, great beers on tap, with a nice selection of ales and continental beers, and the bar snacks we tried were decent. With no TV’s, this was a great place for us to meet up with some friends and catch up on a Sunday evening. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something in the area!

This is a great pub in the Shepherd Market part of Mayfair which is a very busy area just about every night. I hit 4 of the pubs in this cool and trendy little part of town. This was the best one which is probably why this place was always packed. I mostly just drank here… mostly. Since it was always so crowded it was difficult to find a table where you could comfortably eat and since I was here for work by myself, sitting in the middle of a busy pub shoving food into my face didn’t seem like a great idea anyway. After about 3 beers from a surprisingly attentive bartender, I decided to rip through an appetizer plate of squid which was surprisingly delicious and amazingly cheap. In fact they had several menu items that were very reasonably priced. The food was good, the service was good, the beer was good, the vibe was good. Next time I’ll go upstairs to the restaurant to test out the dinner menu.

The beer called Northern Star that I had here was so darn delicious that the rest of the pub experience seemed incidental. Especially as I drank it outside, in what is a surprisingly nice part of London. Downside? Very busy pub.

Nice pub. Good selection of beers, and the interior and the lighting are just right to welcome you in for an evening of civilised drinking. We couldn’t find any space inside as it was so busy and had to stand outside on the pavement, no problem though as that’s a pretty good thing to do in this part of London.

I hesitate to let everyone in on this gem, but I actually can’t resist singing its praises. It serves the loveliest, most inventive and yet reassuringly traditional, freshest dishes for 10 – 15 pounds. Works for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. I just ate a red pepper stuffed with cannelini beans over cous cous with a tomato basil sauce; absolutely delicious and only 8 pounds. Husband goes for the burgers; just had a scrumptious lamb burger with chips and Cole slaw; has had the spinach-potato-lentil burger in the past; both delicious. Have also loved grilled haloumi starter. The only downside to this place is that it occasionally gets so busy with after-work drinkers, you can’t get a table. It helps that I’m here on a bank holiday Monday when it’s quiet. Did I mention the amazing wine list? If you’re in the neighborhood, eat here now; if you like good fresh modern food you won’t be sorry.

hmmm, not quite sure how I feel on this one. It’s a basic pub if you ask me. Ales on tap DO look good, there’s also a nice area to the rear left firnished in blue velvet that is like a small private booth. On the sunny day I went there, most punters were trying to squeeze themselves into any square inch of the pavement ouside. Décor for the most part is really standard. Likes: on the toilet doors a life-size pic of Venue de Milo for the girls and statue of David for the boys. Food looked yummy — but I didn’t eat anything. Dislikes: toilet is so small you get to know any queuing women intimately as you wedge past them, the hand dryer and the sink. Can be very loud in there, especially if you’re standing on the raised section as we were — yelling across the circle like half-drunk morons(we weren’t, honest!!!)

this is a regular venue for our mid week early doors sessions, always a good buzz downstairs and decadent décor in the upstairs bar. has been the starting point for many a good evening. good range of reasonably priced decent wines. can’t vouch for the beer but the lads seem to down enough of it. food is pretty average, but inoffensive and staff are polite and helpful.

You won’t find me peddling preppie talk with the Mayfair mafia all that much, but on this fair Wednesday evening I found myself attending a close friend’s birthday bash and what a pleasant evening it was. Stencilling on the faux period wallpaper and fluffy seating replete with avant garde cushions, damn we could be in Shoreditch if the(non-existent bassline) was ‘thumpier’ and the riff raff at the next table were not rah-rah toffs! Not a bad shared edible platter, and a quaint area away from the tourist baggage mayhem of Piccadilly.

Had to add this review because some how found that ‘Ye Grapes’ is currently listed as the number one pub in Mayfair. It’s not even the number one pub in Shepherd Market. This is. It used to be an O’Neills but has relatively been transformed into its current guise, an effortlessly trendy gastro bar with interesting décor and a good range of drinks. Good place to take a date or a group of friends. They have a quiz in the upstairs room on a Tuesday I think which would be worth a look. I haven’t eaten there but the menu and what food I’ve seen delivered to tables both look great. I suppose on the downside, if I really look for one, it’s not cheap. If you’re the type of person who winces at trendy bar prices for a pint — then try the Shepherd Tavern just up the road(the second best bar in Shepherd Market)

Market Tavern is a fun place to go grab a drink. They have a good beer and cider selection and plenty more on the menu. In the evenings it’s quite crowded, with people often sitting and standing outside. Upstairs, there’s a wine bar/lounge called the Chesterfield Room, which I’ve only been in once for lunch. While the pub is, well, pretty traditionally dark and pub-like, the Chesterfield Room is decorated in red, orange and burgundy, with lots of velvet, wallpaper and chandeliers. The lunch I had there(same menu as the pub) was pretty standard – I got a hummus and grilled vegetable sandwich, though the waiter did bring me the wrong meal before swapping it out for what I’d ordered. The service is a bit spotty(I was also subjected to an excruciatingly long fight between two of the service staff), but it’s generally a fun place to hang out — more so in the evening, though. And with friends.
