I popped down the road to Maddy’s last night hoping to enjoy some fab fish & chips from New Cross’s newest opening. I was not disappointed. Although I sensed levels of rising panic from the open kitchen(unsurprising for a recent opening), the food was delicious. My cod was perfectly cooked in thin crisp batter. Alongside, the chips were lovely with a bit of bite ahead of interior fluffiness and the cabbage slaw provided welcome texture. All this was washed down with some Crate IPA. Having craft beer on tap really sets Maddy’s apart from your typical chippy. Although Maddy’s had only officially opened the night before, the place was already buzzing with the sound of contented diners. Looking at what other people had ordered, the side dishes looked interesting — one to check on my next visit!

Top notch fish & chips with amazing«sides» are to be had at this lovely place which will open next week. Nice décor, simple bleached wooden furniture and friendly staff give Maddy’s a good vibe. Beer on tap, and bottles, from the Crate brewery and a decent selection of reasonably priced wine. Try the soft boiled pickled eggs — simply stunning …
