I like and prefer English Pubs for dinner… but not this one. True test of an English Pub are the pints of brewskies and how they do simple bar fare such as a burger… or Fish & Chips. Burger was served over-cooked(requested medium-rare and ignored), Blue Cheese was on the burger not the house salad as ordered, and tasteless fries. In a USA restaurant, my order would be sent back. Decent small house salad and side of authentic Onion Rings. Service was overall quick. Basket of condiments was nearly empty – ketchup, salt and pepper Overall, just seemed inattentive on the day I was there. I don’t think it was due to being a lone tourist. «Free» Wi-Fi required a tedious and convoluted registration process… so I skipped the hassle. Just Say No. Why do places impose this on patrons??? For what purpose? You order food and drink at the bar and is served at your table. Friendly overall. Large TVs tuned to soccer games.

I’m usually a Unilocal slave, but decided to be adventurous and jump into the first place I saw on our way. I was lucky that place was Mabel’s Tavern! I’ve never been to England before, but was pleasantly surprised by this place. They have plenty of beer and wine to choose from, along with a pretty good menu. I ordered the cider on tap and my husband had a beer from the Netherlands. Both were pretty good. We tried to order the Fish & Chips, but they were out. Instead, we ordered the Bacon and Chicken Salad. We were not disappointed! It came with tons of bacon and chicken, which was great. I found the salad to be pretty good and definitely a decent size. For dessert, we splurged and ordered the brownie sundae with a toffee syrup. You HAVE to get this. It was absolutely huge and had brownie chunks, two kinds of ice cream, tones of whipped cream, and marshmallows. It was absolutely delicious and could easily be split between two people. In addition to good food, I thought the service was great. Our food came out quickly and all of the servers were really friendly. I also enjoyed the ambiance. If you had to envision a stereotypical English bar from the mind of an American, this would be it. Finally the prices were pretty good. We got 2 alcoholic drinks(a beer and a cider), a meat-filled salad, and a giant dessert for less than 26 pounds. In sum, a great place to start off your trip in London!

Our home pub for the last 2 trips to London. Never lets us down. Pub food as expected with no surprises. Service good and the bar staff are quick and nice. We keep coming back except when it’s too crowded.

This is one of four pubs that I visited while in London. The Unilocal app told me this was close to my hotel, so I decided to pop in for a quick pint. Despite what some of the other reviewers say, I found the ale selection quite limited. The only on tap pale ale was Whitstable Bay. I took a pint but did not care for the taste — too fruity and not hoppy enough. There was a football match on(shocking!) with numerous screens, and free WiFi through«The Cloud» so bonus points there. I did not try the food. Plenty of free seating on this mid-week visit. Seemed like a pretty average pub to me – In my experience, and based on this single visit, other pubs in the area have more to offer.

I’d sincerely like to thank Mabel’s for allowing us to stay an hour past closing while they cleaned up, cozy as we were by the fire. Great selection of mid-price white wines — we had a lovely ladies’ evening!

My wife and I had our wedding reception here at the end of August. I had come here often before and loved the fish and chips and a massive fan of the Shepherd’s Neame beer. They were incredibly kind to us and let us bring a cake, gave us our own private space and let us put on our music and handled catering hot meals very well for 50 plus guests. My mum and her side of the family loved the veggie food. Shout out to Ben who went the extra distance to look after us!

We got caught out in the rain and ducked into this nice little pub. Had a great lunch and enjoyed a few pints. Friendly staff. Quite tables near the back.

Cozy little pub near Euston/King’s cross which screens sports and has pretty decent food. Prices are slightly above average(£4.50 ish for a beer I think) but given that it’s right opposite the ‘Gardens Halls’(3 UoL Halls) and in a fairly studenty area generally, it’s probably priced to keep out students and generally succeeds in that regard. Despite being small there are quite a few TVs scattered around and it’s not too hard to get a decent view of one. They also have commentary on at a decent volume during matches. Food wise, I ordered the fish and chips which I quite enjoyed. My friend had some sort of chicken dish which he said was pretty good too. Nothing fancy but one of those that fits into the ‘slightly nicer than your average local’ bracket.

Great atmosphere with some solid ale and decent pub food. My wife had the fish and chips which she loved. I had a vegetarian sandwich which was not bad, but not memorable. I would highly recommend if you are in the area, but I wouldn’t go significantly out of your way to come here.

It’s a quintessential neighborhood pub in London. Quiet, quaint and friendly. Had a few of the cask drawn beer’s there, and all were excellent! Tried some of the things off the menu also, I’d have to say the fish an chips were very tasty. The nachos had a British spin to them, they seen to to like the guacamole, sour cream and salsa trifecta, also very good too. A great place to check out on a cold rainy London day.

Loved this pub. Was visiting London and staying with a friend who lived right around the corner, so she took me here, her local. So cozy and cute! Doesn’t feel like a gross dingy bar like a lot of pubs, it’s got style! Good food, great place for a pint.

Mabel’s. It’s looked after me and the choir for a long time now. When we’re too lazy to do the 5 min walk to NBS or want a decent pint on draft. Mabel’s is where we seek refuge. After literally falling out of rehearsals we’re drawn close. It’s a smashing pub with a great reputation and a love of fine Ales. Good bottle selection its a place that appeases all tastes. It’s been pride of place in the Good Book for years now(The Good Beer Guide) and has a good range to tickle your tastebuds. There’s some outdoor seating for those summer days and cigarettes, and booths and snugs inside. Great for groups. Always busy when a match is on so make sure you’re settled in before the madness ensues. It’s always a good natured crowd, never any trouble just having a bit of banter. Food in Mabel’s is above average for a pub of it’s kind. Always tasty and hot and reasonably priced for the area. The curry is rather pleasant.

This was one of these random places where I read the menu in the window and I just had to come in and taste their food. We’re tourist, ok, Americans, so rating British food is not my speciality. I can only rate based on what I think and based on what else I ate and saw in England. We stumbled across Mabel’s pub on our way to the subway one day. I read their menu and it had some tempting items on there. My temptation in particular was the«Steak and Ale Pie». I thought to myself that any food that combines steak, ale and pie in one has to be fantastic. Later that same day, we met up with some family members who live in the UK and when asked where we wanted lunch, we picked Mabel’s Tavern. And I was right! Steak Ale Pie was fantastic! Great buttery flavorful crust with meat and ale sauce, accompanied by some nice mashed potatoes AND … don’t forget a tall pint of Guinness.(Which, by the way, London bartenders are the only ones who know how to properly tap a Guinness!) My husband had sausages and mash, and those sausages were also very good. We ordered a side of sweet potato fries for our kid, and those were also very tasty :) Like I said, I am no British Pub connoisseur, however I did really enjoy Mabel’s Tavern and given a chance, I’d definitely go back for more. Until next time … Cheers!

Interesting little pub tucked away off the main road. Three tv’s open to channel changing. A few ales on tap and alternative lagers. Worth a stop in my view.

Mabel’s is quite a cozy pub. It’s neatly tucked away from the bustle of Euston Road. The food and drinks are average priced. And I do enjoy that they have huge screens to watch games so you’ll have a good view no matter where you sit! I had the fortune of watching El Clasico here on Monday night with my husband and large group of friends. There were 7 of us and we all fit comfortably around one of their booths. There was enough room for my husband to do his happy dance every time Barcelona scored! 5 – 0! Woo!

Mabel’s became one of our usual stop before we go back to our hotel for the night. Good selection of beer on tap, my husband liked the Shepard Neame. Also they had great dessert menu, but stop serving after 9pm so make sure to be there before the kitchen closes. Try their lemon meringue pie, it was my favourite. We liked the tables on the back with comfy couch type chairs, or at the street front bar tables looking outside with open window. Late week nights were pretty quiet. Once all the«after work» crowds left, we were able to enjoy our quieter evening here, sipping beer and talk about what we are going to do the next day.

Shepherd Neame seem to have some very nice pubs, but often don’t have the beer to back them up. Fortunately the pint of Bishop’s finger I had here was pleasant and this pub was almost worth 4 stars. I would be interested to know what singled it out for such high praise when it was North London pub of the year, some years back though. Quite a nice location just off the Euston road, has a few screens for following of the football. There are stories of a haunting(by Mabel herself) although I doubt you would notice something going ‘bump’ when it is this busy(as it often is).
