There is no better place for a special occasion dinner, the food is fabulous, the wine list is extensive with choices to suit every price point and really, I found the waiters to be quite nice! To focus on the food, the grilled asparagus starter was a good light prelude to the mains which are all rich and hearty in portion size. I had the duck with foie gras which was delectable(my only advice is to order a grade cooler as my medium was definitely err-ing on the side of medium well). Fiancé had the grilled rack of lamb which comes served as two double chops, and that was executed perfectly. As for dessert I’d recommend the crime brûlée and/or the tarte tatin with chantilly cream. We were greedy and tried both and were glad we did!

Great Sunday hangout when its cold and rainy. It’s dark and cozy inside, you get served by arrogant French staff, but they are very nice and professional. Good lunch/dinner with bottle of Bordeaux 82£ for 2.

A quaint little French place in posh Belgravia. Upon first entering the restaurant, I fell in love with the artsiness and coziness that pervaded the room. The menu was all in French(like really), so we had to call over the waiter to verbally list out the dishes we could choose from for the starter-main set menu(it looked like most other British customers needed help, too, so I felt less bad). I chose to go with a hearty tomato soup as a starter and the classic beef bourguignon for the main. Both dishes were solid. The portions were quite generous too; in the end, I couldn’t finish my beef bourguignon. While I can’t say that this was the best French food I’ve ever had, overall, I think the experience ranks among top three. I’d give it particularly high scores for its wine selection and coffee.

I am certainly a hearty fan of this place. It is not fine dining as such, just good hearty meals. While I left there feeling that I had overeaten, I regretted nothing. All I know is that there are quite a few dishes that I would like to try, but didn’t get to this time. We will be back here, for sure. It has a rustic atmosphere, cosy and I liked where were were seated. An intimate setting. Not such a big restaurant and the attention from the waiters was good. The waiters speak to you in French often, but just the easy stuff. Just be warned that the menu is entirely in French, so you may want to have a go a translating it first from the website and a basic translation tool. But, really, anyone with rudimentary high-school French experience will be able to understand most of it. We got a small bowl of crudités at the table, which I hadn’t experienced at a restaurant before, but it countered my hunger while we browsed the menus. We were also offered bread. The wine list is categorised by region of France. I need to brush up on my wine knowledge, because I am not sure what the specialties of each region are. We finally chose a Sancerre which is a variety we have enjoyed in the past and we felt like a bottle of crisp white wine. Starters: hot fois gras, escargots. The fois gras was decidedly delicious, it came on toasted brioche and with a small glass of dessert wine. The escargots — you got nine of them and they were cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce. I mopped up a good portion of the remaining sauce with my bread before they took the plate away. Second starter(yes — we may have ordered too much!): We each had a delicious french onion soup with gratinee. This was a delight which warmed us up from the cold winter air outside. Mains: I had the beef fillet and chips — cooked medium, just as I like it, with pepper sauce(there were a few different sauces you could choose from). It came with a plate of chips on the side, perfect crunchiness, and went well with the leftover pepper sauce I had after spooning it over my steak. My wife had the saddle of rabbit. This looked like a beast of a dish, but really not as much as you first think, because there are the bones in the middle. It came with whole pieces of garlic and shallots, which gave a sweet contrast. Of course, it was as delicious as it looked. Desserts: My wife went for the chocolate mousse. She commented that this was a bit alcoholic, but still nice. I had the tarte tartin with chantilly cream. This is a french classic and one of my favourite desserts. The tarte was hot and the cream cooled it down immediately to perfect eating temperature. It was not as caramelised as I had expected, but that was probably for the best after the feast I had just eaten. A five star experience. We came there from the Sloan Square station, it was easy to find and not too much of a walk. I would like to go back there, probably with a group of friends so I can show it off.

Love this quaint and quirky spot in Chelsea. Classic casual hearty dishes that never disappoint. Lot of fun for a boozy celebratory lunch. Business folks the odd soccer star and Rock Royalty can all be sitting nearby enjoying the scene. No one enjpys a boozy lunch better than the British at this charming respite from the hustle and bustle outside. There at least once every trip.

One of those classic restaurants that don’t need advertising as everyone has heard of them. Lionel and Momo are very helpful and if you break the ice with them, you can have a very good time. Also, for London, their terrace is a must when the weather is hot. Perfect for a friendly dinner or a romantic evening.

One of the most romantic restaurants anywhere… although ironically I’ve only ever been there on business. Fantastic food with great service. Try the tables in the basement for an evening meal… lovely.

This is one of my most favourite restaurants ever — letalone London. I have eaten here a couple of times — all as special occasions though(or when someone else was paying…). I was told it was voted the most romantic restaurant in London… it is certainly lovely however I have been there as a couple and with family and loved it every time. The radishes with dressing thing they give you at the beginning is amazing and I always order the Coq au Vin.

Without a shadow of doubt and by a country mile. This is the best French restaurant in England The atmosphere, the food, the staff. Everything has been amazing every time I have gone

Came here on a last minute decision to join some co-workers for dinner after Friday night drinks. The décor inside is stereotypical French, either this is some in-joke on the part of the restaurant or a reflection of the expectations of its customer base. It’s decked out in lattices ensnared by grape vines, grape clusters, all dark wood. Apparently the food was meant to be rustic French food(i.e., what farmers/peasants would eat) but we still paid excessive amounts for it. Not looking to go bankrupt over a meal I opted for the cheaper and eponymous Poule Au pot. It was a soup with boiled chicken, carrots, onions and cucumber — not very exciting fare. Just then, the waiter asked if I wanted some remoulade sauce with my meal. I got a dollop and it transformed the stone soup into a delightfully savory but creamy meal. Overall a high quality dish with little pretension, but perhaps not worth the ultimate cost.

I’ve been here three times and it’s kind of a mixed bag. The fillet of beef and frites is consistently delicious. The beef is succulent, well seasoned and perfectly cooked every time. The frites… amazing. Crispy outside, soft inside, well salted. Just perfect. The crème brûlée is also quite good. However, on the downside, the beef bourguignon, a classic French dish they should rock, was quite disappointing. The meat was tough and the texture conjured up visions of boiled meat. Blech. Finally the fruit terrine was just plain terrible, overly tart and mealy. Service is mostly good and friendly, though the last time I was there, they served our meal in pieces. They presented main courses and the sides followed 10 minutes later. Price wise, it’s a bit on the expensive side which is understandable considering its location. We spent about 50 – 60 pounds for 2 people. Worth a shot but be prepared for anything be it a great meal or a waste of time.

A cracking French restaurant in one of my favourite parts of London. As authentic you can get outside of France — food wonderful, wine special and service as arrogant as you would expect. The restaurant food is pretty affordable so to encourage you to splash out a bit more on the wine list. Came here for a romantic evening for two and it didn’t disappoint. A place to come back to for shizzle.

Went here in May of 2009! Excellent ambiance and great food. I think it’s a great place to go on a date although, we were there as a group of 6. Our table got a little rowdy and I’m certain the surrounding Brit’s were thinking. «damn americans» None the less — we had a great experience and look forward to going back when we’re in London next. * I left a star off only because the food was a little rich, but it was expected!

Great food, awful service in a French restaurant pretending to be a bistro. In the summer months you can dine al fresco at La Poule, but in effectively doubling their covers the service declines. We were told we had to vacate the table by 9.30 which gave us 1 ½ hours for 2 courses. We didn’t think this would be a problem. We were wrong… We had to ask where our water and wine was 3 times and it eventually arrived while we were eating our starters(asparagus and hollandaise sauce — beautiful), which was quite awkward as not only is the restaurant quite small but what with the plates, side plates, condiments, candles and plant pots there wasn’t much room on the table. The mains were beautiful. The entrecôte de bouef was huge, and bernaise sauce wonderful. It came with a huge amount of chips. My dining partner had escalope de veal champignon and we struggled to find the veal as it was swimming in sauce. It took a while for our plates to be cleared and the dessert menu to arrive. I fancied the tart tartin but no one ever came to take the order despite us, and the table behind us, desperately trying to flag down any passing waiter. After 20 minutes we just decided to leave and had to ask twice for the bill. A 12.5% service charge was included, which we didn’t pay. Even if this place is trying to be a laid back friendly local neighbourhood bistro it failed to impress me on this occasion.

I’ll admit it. I have an inappropriate relationship with french onion soup. I also have zero tolerance for overly frou-frou French restaurants. Having lived in the actual country of France, and having spent a good portion of that time in the French countryside, rather than in Paris, I find myself complaining loudly and obnoxiously when restaurants don’t measure up. This place is pretty much the real deal. The french onion soup was delish. As Jamie Oliver would say, «cheese and croutons are very good friends.» Indeed. I honestly can’t remember what else I ate after that. I think it might have been pork. I got a little drunk from the jug o’ wine on our table. Oh yes, did I fail to mention that they serve wine by the weight at this place? Legendary. It’s yummy, it’s a bit spendy but not overly so, and it has enough atmosphere to impress that special someone on a first date. A good bet in Pimlico.

A great date spot, a little on the spendy side. Really nice ambiance and friendly waitstaff made me feel really comfortable here. It is the kind of place at which it would be a crime not to get a bottle of wine and have a long dinner. The food is super rich, but overall it mostly stands up to the French cuisine one might get in New York or oh, say, Paris. Not super convenient unless you are in the neighborhood.

Pure French indulgence, this restaurant serves no fuss, best French food in Pimlico. The service is very French to say the least; most of the staff is from France, and it’s a part of the experience I guess. When I went there I tried the delicious onion soup, loaded with cheese and a lovely piece of French bread swimming in the middle of the bowl. A friend ordered the lescargot They where truly scrumptious, flavor where bursting from the delicacy that comes from this shelled little animal. The selection of wines is fantastic, though it’s not cheap its worth every penny. I also adore the decoration; it transports you to la campagne francaise. O lala what a treat.

We decided to move on towards a bite to eat. ‘Lets go to somewhere in Pimlico’ came the inspired suggestion — ‘near to the Orange’. So we zig-zagged our way from Battersea Bridge to the little square in Pimlico by Mozart’s House and targeted the lovely French restaurant that sits on the corner with all the pretty pavement tables. The signs, even at seven, were not good as there seemed to be large and small groups arriving with reservations from all directions. Give me a minute, winked the maitre d’, Do you mind an outside table?. We smiled and a few minutes later were sitting in a prime spot outside watching the world go by. Then four hours of chatter blissed past us and as darkness descended the candle on our table started to have a purpose in the balmy evening. A lovely supper, great food, wine and company and then we all headed back towards a midnight Chelsea. Great evening.
