Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Felt like Homer Simpson. I bought 12 donuts for my dads birthday present… however I did end JP eating two on the train to Edinburgh… it got delayed and there’s only so long you can go on a train hungry and with 12 beautiful krispy kreme’s and not completely fold. My favourite flavours are the strawberry cream and the peanut butter one!

Usual Krispy Kreme booth in the station. ‘Great’ was my initial thought when I saw it appear then I realised this could be not so good for me. Only because, as a fan of KK doughnuts I fear this might be my going home treat more than it should be. Conveniently based in the walk between the mainline and tube easy to stop off at en route to wherever but also easy to pop down to if you don’t use the Tube and stuck waiting for your train. They sell drinks also but that’s never interested me, the newest flavour of doughnut is far more interesting!

It wasn’t until few months ago when I had my first Krispy Kreme doughnut. My colleagues used to love teasing me about the fact and how it meant I had not lived yet. In the end one of them brought a big bag of these miracle sugary treats to the office so finally, I had one. And? Uh, these doughnuts are so sweet it will knock your socks of. Makes your sight go blur. After trying out few different ones,(not during the same day, couldn’t do it even during same week) and despite the icing, fillings and the shape were different, I always feel it tastes the same! It must be the combination of sugar and fat, and again fat, that is so striking that there is no way to hide it. I can see how people get addicted to these but for a healtholic like me, it is a complete nightmare!

I am sorry, but please PLEASE don’t open one of these on a route I take very frequently. Why? The idea of these doughnuts makes me shudder just a little. I have only ever managed half of one, and I felt ill. I was quite full anyway mind, so this may have been why. But seriously, they should carry a health warning. It was like eating sugar and fat, disguised by yet more sugar in the form of sprinkles and coloured icing. Then there is a part of me which must confess that these doughnuts are incrediable. Thank you America! We were there once at around 9 p. m when the were closing, and the guy gave us a massive bag of free ones. I really wasn’t in the mood at the time, but my friends were over joyed. Imagine. A bag of free sugary heaven. Munch munch munch. We initially planned to return there everyday at the same time, but thankfully we didn’t follow through with that idea. These doughnuts are good for the occaisional treat, but placing them in a such a place means that people will buy them everyday and possibly block up their arteries. Not cool. I also find it hilarious that they hand out nutritional information for the buns as if to say ‘YES. YOUARECONSUMING500CALORIESPERBITE. BUTDON’T WORRY, THEMOREYOUBITETHEMOREMONEYWEWILLGETANDTHEMOREWECANSPREADOURGREASEAROUNDBRITAINTOO. OHANDWEAREDELICIOUS’.

Krispy Kreme donuts is an American phenomenon of fresh-baked donuts with a HUGE variety of flavours. They are also the only place in the UK I can find what’s called cake donuts, which are thicker and denser than regular donuts and usually covered in an opaque sugar-y glaze(Krispy Kreme sells chocolate cake donuts & plain cake donuts, but in the USA you can get all sorts of flavours like blueberry or apple flavoured). A plain KK donut is rather boring and extremely sugary — it’s the flavoured ones that really sell the business. Ranging from ooey gooey chocolate-y heaven to fruity gourmet jam donuts, KK has tapped into the commuter coffee and pastry crowd with a kick. The outlet at London Bridge is perfectly placed to offer that morning(or afternoon or evening!) caffeine and sugar kick. Located in the upstairs part by all the train platforms.
