Camden is hardly a hotbed of decent food(I can’t help but be suspicious of some of the food colour at a number of the stalls). However, Koshi is pretty decent. No, it’s not world-beating and there’s not a huge amount of room to sit down, but I’ve enjoyed my food both times I’ve been here — as Katie B says, they have a tasty, cheap bulgogi. The second time I went, I had a japchae(glass noodles with vegetables and beef) which was decent — crunchy vegetables and nice flavour, although the noodles were a little softer than I’d like. It’s inexpensive, and you’re paying between £5−7 for a decent portion of rice/noodles which is excellent. Whilst cheap-and-good Korean food is much easier to find in other countries(particularly the US), it’s much less common here. I don’t know if that’s because there’s a smaller Korean population here(and thus Korean is more ‘exotic’ and thus commands a higher pricetag?), but I’m glad Koshi exists to fill that void. Definitely recommended if you’re looking for something quick and tasty amidst a sea of dodge.

What? No reviews? Need inexpensive takeaway in Camden Town and overwhelmed by choice? COMEHERE!(same side of the alley as Shaka Zulu, across from the Chin Chin Laboratory Ice Cream place). In the sea of less than mediocre ‘Chinese’-ish food in the Camden Market Stalls, this Korean — Japanese place is a REAL gem. Ok, so I probably won’t order sushi from a dinky market stall… but the Korean food was really nice! And only £5.50 for a sizable bibimbap with bugolgi, pickled carrot and cucumber, spinach, fried egg, and kimchee. Like, a full-on bibimbap for so little money! And to be honest, taste wise it was RIGHT on par with a lot of sit down places I’ve been to in London… Sure, this place is basically takeaway only…(you can eat in, but there are only a handful of seats) but friendly and quick service, lovely plastic food to look at outside, and a wide variety of Korean dishes. I will definitely come back and try some other things(Jap chae, tapoki, etc.) Their rice was perfectly cooked as well. What can I say? I love well-prepared, healthy, tasty, and inexpensive food served by friendly couples! I might need to bump this up to 5 if the other food I taste is as good as this was…
