I went into the Clapham branch of KFC around 5:20pm yesterday evening(which was 13÷7÷15) to grab some bits. I was served by a South Asian man. He processed my order, then something caught his eye so he asked a colleague to get my bits for me. After about a minute he came back, and I heard him calling«bye darling» to a youngish woman. I didn’t mind any of this, just setting the scene really. He retook control of my order. Before he grabbed my bits he said«so how are yooou?» in a sleazy manner. I replied«I’m fine thanks» in a cordial way, yet in a manner that also implied I did not wish to embark on further conversation. I think this must have hurt his ego because he stepped up the cheekiness. After handing me my order I asked for extra salt and he said«you want 10?» in an antagonistic way. He got so over-excited at this he dropped a whole bunch of salt sachets on the floor! I was like«steady on friend» and he made a rude reply, although I don’t remember what it was… He was very smug and pleased with himself, and I could hear his colleagues laughing in the background. It was pretty obvious he was taking the piss out of me. Which is hardly conducive to even a basic level of customer service. I want to make it clear that I do –not– expect silver service from KFC by the way. Ofcourse I don’t. But I also do not expect sheer rudeness from somewhere I’m going to spend my money… I used to work for a supermarket on minimum wage and being rude to customers was out of the question. As it should be across the entire retail spectrum(and thankfully largely is). I asked this individual his name. It was a foreign name so he spelt it out for me at my request(laughing the whole time, I suppose winding customers up helps pass the time for him). I’ll admit I don’t remember it. I suppose it doesn’t really matter… I’ll admit that I did tell the man that I thought he had a bad attitude, and would see to it that his manager was aware of this situation… I spotted an employee in a black shirt and cap and asked if he was the manager and he said he was. I told him his employee had been rude and smug… and he looked at me like I had two heads! The rude employee was standing there next to him, still with a massive smile on his face, saying to me «I wasn’t making fun of you». You could still hear the laughter in his voice. The manager did not act. He did not apologise or apprehend the employee whatsoever. My impression was that he was 100% on the employee’s side. Customer feedback clearly means noting to this particular manager. In the end I became exasperated and just said«you know what? I’ll just write a negative review on Unilocal». His response was«OK». So here it is!

KFC is KFC. It’s there. It’s tasty, cheap and unhealthy. It’s worth it.

Why is it every time I visit a KFC I’m drunk and desperate? I found myself in this situation last night, this time I was presented with the actual calorie amounts on the menu board. If this wasn’t a deterrent to return I don’t know what will be. I decided to go for a supercharge burger, all 1000 calories of it. The cheese sauce was cheesy, the fillets were filletty. I regretted eating it straight away. I have no doubt I’ll be revisiting KFC at some point, it will inevitably be another drunken mistake. Oh well.
