After going to a Hotspur match, my friend and I were hungry. He Unilocaled a supposed Turkish restaurant«just a mile down the road». His ex-girlfriend was Turkish so he had taken a liking for the food and culture. We started walking… and walking… and walking… We finally get to the location Unilocal said this restaurant was but it wasn’t. The weirdest thing about it was that we were standing in front of the Capital Restaurant which happened to also be Turkish. Weird! We even asked the server if they knew of this other one or if the this restaurant was renamed. They had no idea. Seeing it as a sign, we sat down and ordered. It being Mediterranean cuisine, I knew there were certain things I could get here to test the kitchen. Hummus is always a staple and a great way to test them. It was good, not as good as the style I prefer which is Lebanese(real smooth with a lot of Tahini” but it was really fresh and had good flavor. My friend was about getting Iskander which is a classic Turkish dish with beef. The meal starts with a really refreshing salad that came with Pita and an awesome yogurt dip. The Iskander came out and the dish was huge! Basically, picture a black and white cookie and that’s what is was. Half the plate was yogurt and the other half was beef. There was a bed of bread under the beef that you could use to soak up the beef and yogurt. The flavor was really good, but the beef was too fatty and the dish was too wet. This caused for a pool of oil to collect on the bottom of the dish and made the bread inedible. Fortunately, we had a ton of bread from the hummus and salad to eat with. Overall, I liked the place, but they have some work to do on the dish. trim some of that fat so it’s easier to eat and also drain the oil and juice form the meat so the bread can hold up to it. The key is always ingredients so it gets the 3 stars.
