After watching Cinderella at the cinema the previous week, I was still very much in fairytale princess mode, so I was pretty excited when I saw that the Chinoiserie at Jumeirah Carlton Tower was doing a Cinderella themed afternoon tea, specially created by Executive Head Pastry Chef Stephan Will. There was some soothing music being played by the resident harpist — I do love places that have live classical music. Our afternoon tea was served as depicted on their website — it looked so pretty that we spent the first few minutes snapping away with our cameras. The top tier had the savoury sandwiches — I liked the roast Scottish beef, watercress and creamed horseradish sandwich, but was not quite a fan of the quail egg tart which was a bit dry. The second tier had a pretty array of sweet desserts shaped into various miniature objects related to Cinderella — marshmallow carriages, yuzu tart clocks, white chocolate shoes, and white chocolate brownie and popping candy wands. And the final tier was some buttery plain and fruit scones, served with jam and clotted cream on the side. The afternoon tea was nicely presented, although the sweetness was maybe a bit too much for me towards the end. Unfortunately I am also not that big a fan of white chocolate, but if you are then you would probably enjoy this. Service was overall very pleasant and efficient, and we had a lovely relaxing afternoon. Click on my blog link for the full post with photos x

We originally got a very smelly room but once we complained the manager everything was taken care of very quickly. The manager appeared very quickly, he was apologetic and moved us to another room! We are staying here probable for the 10th time and I would recommend it to anyone coming for a short stay in London.

My Dearest Jumeirah, Exuberance is what you exceed in. You are so catering and attentive to my every need and want from your crisp champagne to the fearless heels in your display cabinets in the lobby. The gracious bell men, and kind front desk employees gave me impeccable service on every ring down to the front of the house each time. Although my stay was short, I tried to use every and any amenity offered. Your spa service was patient and relaxing(Ms Jouee– I can’t thank you enough for making me feel like 1mil pounds). The restaurant fast, quick, easy and painless… With a few bartenders that were sincere on the eyes. Your fitness facilities are top of the line and gave me no excuse not to burn a few calories. The car service was on time and succeeded in cleanliness each ride.(Gracias to the witty Simon) Each evening the clientele was bit comical, but what do you expect when staying in the mecca of their ideal scene, location and posh neck of the woods. In the past, I have been a Mayfair kinda woman, and I think its time to make the split and join team Jumeirah. I anticipate my next travel destination in the middle east will have a Jumeirah within the vicinity and visiting another one of your fine establishments. Cheers, Hill

The clientele is entertaining to watch, but I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy a cocktail in the lounge after my workout due to some horrific odors emanating from most of smoke-soaked patrons. The fitness facilities are top notch, and were Carlton just a health club, it’d be five stars.

Yes, 2 stars for an upscale Knightsbridge hotel where I stayed during the 2012 London Olympics. The location is superb, etc, but every night I laid down, I could smell stale cigarette smoke infused in the pillows. Not a pillow. All the pillows.

I couldn’t decide between 1 and 2 stars. Yes, an opulent hotel. But the prices are sky-high, and as the Motel 6 ads say in the US, «once you close your eyes at night we look just like the big boys.» Save your money for something else.

Nicely laid out hotel, with good standard of 5 star accomodation, the food and service are equally as good. A bit pricier than my usual London hotel(royal garden) but I suppose its more convenient for Harrods and some of the theatres. However it lacks some of the homeliness of Royal Garden and the personal touch that I have been used to there. I would stay again here but only if my usual place was full.

Internet für 24 Stunden 40 Pfund.(was will man machen wenn man dringend emails checken muß???)

Quizzically described by its owners as a ‘landmark experience’, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower is the mother of all Knightsbridge Hotels, a beacon of extreme wealth, extreme opulence and, unsurprisingly, extremely high prices. I’ve never stayed in the hotel myself but have dined here on a couple of occasions with my nana or popped in for a few drinks after a meal. And I’m afraid to say that I categorically don’t require a harp player with my chicken Caesar and I find it hard to keep food down when all around men are gambling most families yearly income on a measly game of poker. Other than the predictable ostentation of such a place, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower is nice enough but just not my style. For a cosier, less gauche hotel/dining experience mozey along to the — similarly Jumeirah group owned but ineffably more chic — Lowndes Hotel just a few minutes away.
