I went to see The Last Poets and the venue stunk, literally. the management had obviously not thought it necessary to clean the floor from the previous night our shoes were sticking to it horrible. And in November 2011, my bro went for the Shabazz Palaces gig and said it was just as malodorous. The artists even had to burn incense all night to make it bearable. Speaking to a recording artist later, he complained how much worse it was playing there than a year before. Everyone says the same. The Jazz Café has gone seriously downhill recently and this level of sloppiness disrespects both artists and punters.

I didn’t visit the Jazz Café for a performance, but as part of Camden Crawl so don’t have the frustrations of some of the other reviews. Its a nice looking venue over two floors, with bars upstairs and downstairs. Food looked nice, and drinks weren’t too overpriced. We sat upstairs and had a really good view of the stage downstairs and comfy seats. We were watching a hip-hop act which was very enjoyable.

This month’s meeting of the supper club was hosted by Mr Murphy and found us heading over to Camden to the Jazz Café for a bite to eat and some tuneage courtesy of Rakim who was performing his classic album Paid in Full. A slightly strange choice I thought, but that’s what the supper club is all about. I had been meaning to check out the Jazz Café for ages so I was more than happy to be making the journey across town on a lovely summers evening. After a quick beer and a trip down memory lane at the Worlds End pub we arrived around 8pm and were swiftly through the pleasant security and into the smallish main room which was quickly filling up. After a bit of a wander round it was up the stairs to the balcony restaurant area where we received a friendly greeting and were show to our comfy booth. In front of us there was a walkway and then a few tables for two which overlooked the stage. We had paid the ticket price for the gig plus another £16 on top which was the price of a main course. Our original idea had been to eat and then join the throng on the main floor downstairs. However, this idea was soon put to bed and we spent the whole evening upstairs enjoying the food, the good vibes and the great view. If you are visiting the Jazz Café, and I will most certainly be back, I would highly recommend taking in the gig with a meal. As for the food itself; this was a really pleasant surprise and much better than I had expected. The small well thought out menu had something tasty on it to suit most requirements. I had the tuna steak nicoise salad which was a big plateful, nicely presented and well executed. The other guys were very complimentary about the pork chop which came with a spring mash and apple sauce. Unless you are very hungry a main course is going to fill you up and will provide a good lining for what could be a long night. I forget what we were drinking with dinner other than it was wet, white and reasonably priced(for this type of venue). Cocktails and beer were also partaken later in the evening but it was all starting to get a bit blurry by then. When we got the bill, sometime around midnight, there were no nasty surprises and we all agreed we had got pretty good value for money for an evening of eating, drinking and dancing. Highly recommended.

I saw mica paris here and decided to eat in the restaurant upstairs. I chose the chicken and rice and peas and it was a rather large amount and very tasty. you need to choose the seats closer to the rail to get a good view but it is well worth choosing the meal option as i woulnd not want to stand downstairs as it gets packed. It does work out an expensive night with drinks etc but if there is an act you like i would recommend it

I paid 60£ for a concert with Ginger Baker and special guests. I got 50 minutes of music and one special guest. We saw the bands set list and it matched the numbers played, so The Jazz Café must have known that this was a minor gig, and still they demand 60£ entrance. Jazz Café could have arranged additional music or lowered the price. The band didn’t even give the audience a chance for an encore as they left stage without a: Thank you and goodnight. This experience borders a scam, and I can’t recommend this place to anybody! Unfortunately I have to give the place one star, can’t proceed with this review any other way, but actually I would give it none! — SAVEYOURMONEYDON’T GOTOTHESHOW!

Wer hier sitzen will, muss vorbestellen.

The Jazz Café always boasts an impressive schedule of musicians, and it’s a great little live music venue with loads of space down the front and friendly bar staff. My only complaint is that on one visit I booked dinner tickets, only to be phoned up a couple of days in advance to be told that they weren’t opening the upper area. As a rather small person, I was hoping to have a balcony spot so as to have a chance of actually seeing the performers, but luckily I managed to grab a space near the front early on, and the refund of the extra charge for dinner and seating was dealt with very smoothly.

Long time live music establishment, the Jazz Café is a legend in its own right. It’s not worth frying your brain over the legends that have stood on that stage and changed people’s lives. Just this week, Chuck Berry, of Johnny B Goode fame, the man that could be attributed to inventing rock and roll is passing through the doors. The difference between most other live venues and the Jazz Café is that the Jazz Café is quality through and through. You may pay extra for the privilege of seeing your favourite artist, but you don’t have to deal with toilets that could have come straight from the set of Trainspotting, and your feet won’t stick to the floor. If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket and want to see a real artist then you couldn’t go wrong by giving this place a shot.

The Jazz Café is in Camden and is very very funky! I went there to see a hip hop gig not long ago and the atmosphere was fantastic. It felt like being in a genuine New York hip hop venue. The place is more or less divided into 3 areas; one area just beyond the entrance with sofas and chairs where you can(just about) get away from the loud music if you want a chill and a chat. Opposite this area is the bar and beyond that the main room with the stage which hosts a wide variety of performances several nights a week. Above this main room is the restaurant which sits on a terrace surrounding the lower part and overlooking the stage. The food here is rather pricey but it’s excellent and not the sort of food you’d expect to find in a place like this. They serve gourmet fish and meats and delicious puddings too and the whole place is lit up with moody candles and dimmed lighting– very romantic! There is also a smaller bar area up top which also boasts a view of the stage and the area below– it’s great to grab a stool up there to get away from the crowds if you just want to sit down and enjoy the tunes.

I love seeing gigs here. It doesnt matter where you are in the room you feel part of the action. Its intimate, the sound quality is excellent and you are always close enough to see the expressions or even sweat on the face of the performer. Tickets are never too pricy and every concert I have seen it has been worth it. I really think that artists like performing here so they always perform well! I have never eaten here though, but would like to to sometime –I will have a read of the reviews to see what people think of the food. Drinks are not cheap but you’re generally here for the music not to get bladdered so it doesnt matter too much. The door men are always mean and moody though which is a shame — it is possible to be pleasant but firm you know guys!!! If you see your favourite artist or someone you like listed here I definately recommend going.

I cannot believe I have not written a review of the Jazz Café. I used to work here! Therefore I am not going to offer a biased ex-employee review and the key information is in other Qype users reviews. What i will write is that there is usually no support act, artists go on stage at 9pm sharp. Please don’t make the mistake of tourists who I daily had to turn away explaining that the Jazz Café is NOT a café where you can pop in for a daytime coffee. It is a night time venue offering excellent musicians playing soul, jazz, folk and the occasional northern soul club nights. The bar staff are great and the food upstairs is divine. Don’t forget you need both a dinner reservation AND show tickets if dining upstairs. One final thing is that the booker here, a man whom I used to call boss, is a genius. Simply put, a nicer man you will never meet and my transformation from indie kid to adult is because of his work opening my ears as his intern a few years back. I have never seen a bad gig or performer here and I have seen over 100 shows here, so if you want to see a band and be satisfied on any night of the year(bar Xmas day) DO go and take a put on a show at the Jazz Café. You will not be left wanting, well except for an encore!

Jazz café in Camden is the coolest way to enjoy your favourite artist performing. The guests at Jazz café do tend to be those that have a following, but are not completely main stream. The first time I went to the Jazz Café was to see John Legend, just before he released his first album. Jazz Café has a very intimate setting, you get to interact with the performer and are basically only inches away from stage. The café is specifically known for hosting performers of the Neo/Nu soul genre, in the recent years artists such as Common, Dwele, Eric Roberson and Musiq Soulchild have frequented there, if you like this kind of music then the Jazz Café is definitely the space to watch. You can view it’s bookings and prices on the Mean Fiddler website. The crowd at Jazz Café is cool, chilled and trendy, it has a particularly relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to go with your partner for a birthday or valentines day or simply just for the love of music. Jazz Café doesn’t have a required dress style and you can sport pretty much anything you want. Jazz Café takes table reservations and serves food, although I have never eaten there I have heard that having a table and getting some food whilst watching the performers enhances the experience. Get some tickets and head down to the Jazz Café to enjoy some music and chill!

Jazz Café is one of the best jazz clubs of London. Opened every day from 7pm to 2am, they also r’n’b, soul, funk and latino gigs. On Fridays and Saturdays, bands play live until 11pm. Then, the crowd invades the dance floor and party the night away… I mean a part of the night(until 2am).

The Jazz café is always a sure hit to provide a sizzling atmosphere! Most evenings have a truly talented jazz performer creating a lovely ambient night. On the last Saturday of each month it plays host to Breaking Bread a fantastic night with b boys battling head to head to be crowned the most stylish dancer, be sure not to miss it!
