Some pretty solid food at this establishment. I was skeptical at first because not many restaurants that are not in southern states in the United States can execute grits, but this restaurant did an excellent job! I ordered the shrimp and grits, and the pulled pork tacos, they were both absolutely delicious. The tacos were sweet, spicy, savory, and had wonderful textures. The grits were under seasoned, but the consistency was executed perfectly. I didn’t mind the grits being under seasoned because I prefer to add my own, plus the shrimp were packed with flavor. This restaurant has further intensified my love for the United Kingdom. Definitely check them out!

Tuesday night, no reservation and looking for pancakes… Well, we didn’t find pancakes, The Breakfast Club was fully booked, we didn’t want to go the Diner and pancakes here were only available in the morning. No tables, but offered seats at the bar, it was actually a bit more fun than at a table, we had some banter with the bartender and probably slightly quicker service. The barbecue/fried chicken combo was really good, the fried chicken taking the lead. Cajun grilled chicken was also given a thumbs up. The mulled cider was their Christmas cocktail and arrived with a cinnamon stick and spices floating in it. A pleasant meal at the last minute and we both left happy. Try the polenta and truffle hush puppies, little balls of goodness!

Good American style bar with a proper Dark and Stormy. Did also try their Dark and Stormy float, tasty and different. Didn’t eat but would come back.

Fantastic breakfast. Undoubtedly the best. Ordered the avocado with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and Friend potatoes with caramelised onions. The avocado was really fresh and went extremely well with the savoury taste of the smoked salmon. The scrambled eggs were done to perfection which was accentuated by the watercress. The potatoes were very flavourful especially with the nice touch of caramelised onions. All in, definitely well worth the visit and would be back again for more. The service was really good and attentive and the ambience was Amazing to have breakfast while watching the world go by :)

OMG love love love breaded buttermilk chicken, slaw and sweet potato fries. We were seated downstairs initially but it was so loud I could hardly hear myself think! The staff were very accommodating and moved us upstairs which was much better. This is great American food and excellent service.

We thought it would be a good idea to find some great american style meal for a change. Jackson and Rye looked great online and the menu seemed great. Service was”t great. We had to call the water over to get water and to order after 15 mins. We ordered as we didn’t have much time and had to get back to work. The food came quickly which was great. I ordered seafood linguine pasta. It looked very plane, not fresh and not hot — a little sad looking really. I tasted it and it was dry and tasteless. Rather than offering, I also had to ask the waitress for parmesan cheese(to bring some more flavour to the meal). I also bit into one of the calms and it had a really bad taste. After that I had to stop eating as I was concerned about the quality of fish. My other half ordered Reuben and was very much looking forward to a stacked pastrami meat Rueben with dressing(like you get in American — particularly New York). It arrived with very little meat and almost NO thousand island dressing — or anything else you get in a Reuben. It was awful. He also order chips that you could tell had been sitting around for some time. Bad taste, dry and chewy! Don’t waste your money at this place. It’s pretending to be American but doesn’t live up in any way to what you get in America… as a matter if fact, it’s just plain awful. Don’t bother.

Just went for breakfast this morning — everything was fine and service was fine as well. I had the prison eggs which are scrambled w beans and spring onion mixed in. For me it was quite a bit of beans! I think they would have been better on the side. But still a good and filling dish. Comes with good toast and butter and I believe it was £ 6.5. I ordered the pancakes w maple syrup for my kids it was fine as well. They have a number of interesting breakfast cocktails on the list but just note that they only serve After 10 Am

Heading to Jackson+Rye on a beautifully sunny day I was worried about getting consigned to the gloomy basement that other reviewers mention. Thankfully with a reservation we had no problems. Service was nice but a little haphazard, with my order slightly wrong the first time around. The Full American breakfast was delicious, and my friend’s pancakes were also great. Good value as well, for a restaurant in Soho prices were exceptionally reasonable. Cocktails were also okay, if nothing special. I’d probably head back there again to check out the fried chicken and the desserts as they looked exceptional. Seemed like a good place to hang out with a big group as well.

I’m not sure why this place only has three stars. Maybe we got lucky. Went for breakfast with my girlfriend. Everything was fantastic: the bacon was thick and tasty, potatoes were delicious, eggs cooked to perfection, tea was tasty and service was great. We both really enjoyed our meal and it ended up being one of our best breakfasts of our European tour. The atmosphere is cool too. The place has plenty of seating and the bathrooms are really big and clean. Can’t rate it on their lunch or dinner, but for breakfast I don’t think you can go wrong with this place. In my opinion it earned all five stars.

My friends and I ended up at Jackson + Rye as we couldn’t get booked at Kopapa or Dishoom for brunch and we needed to be near Leicester Square for some Sing-a-long action at the Prince Charles cinema… This was our first time at any of the Jackson + Rye restaurants, they have more near the river in Chiswick & Richmond, my friend was especially excited to see steak & bourbon on the brunch menu! The Soho branch entrance was tucked under some scaffolding and when we entered it seemed busy & buzzing, the bar area immediately in front and the place full of dark wood paneling. We were led downstairs into the dimly lit basement and ordered some of their fabulous drip coffees to wake us up — they certainly worked a treat, especially as alcohol wasn’t sold ’til midday — we had arrived at a respectable brunch time of 11am… They don’t advertise the licensing limits anywhere! Whilst waiting for our final friend to arrive we started off by ordering some of the snacks — the truffle arancini and jalapeño corn bread were amazing! The arancini a decadent hit of truffle oil and cheese and the corn bread warm straight out of the oven, served with sour cream to muffle the kick if you got a whole chunk of the chili. Despite the slow service, we were now anticipating the ‘mains’(and the prosecco at midday!) So how did they stand up? Well my brunch was the avocado eggs Benedict — with crispy bacon, which was fabulous and made me happy. Lauren had the corn beef hash — again very tasty. Tiva had steak and eggs and a ‘side’ of banana cream pancakes — and OMG they were stunning. The banana cinnamon cream with maple syrup was sublime on the American style stack — worth ordering! Ellen had another steak(no eggs!) and a side of Mac and cheese — I have never been so happy that my dining companions were willing to share food :) We quickly necked back two bottles of prosecco with the food(not wanting to wait while the bar woke up and got to grips with cocktails! Our coffees took long enough to come!). I would definitely want to come back here when they’ve gotten the staff trained and ironed out the small issues, there’s a whole menu of cocktails to try with brunch!(But only after midday…)

This place really reminded me of home. Could have been in the west village and would not have noticed. Had the avocado eggs Benedict. Poached eggs and the hollandaise sat on top of a bacon stuffed avocado. Potatoes and greens were also a nice touch. Potatoes came with some green onions and caramelized shallots. Coffee served with warmed milk unlike in the U.S. Which is better off. Walked in and accommodated me even though it was pretty busy

My rib eye steak, was served medium instead of medium rare as I requested, it lacked seasoning and the quality of the meat was very questionable. It was hardly tender at all and the meaty flavour you would expect from an aged cut of meat was missing, at £18.95, I was really hoping for something a lot better considering you can get quality steak elsewhere such as Flat Iron which is just down the road. The baked mac and cheese was also far from ideal, the cheese was only piled on the top and was completely separate from the macaroni, it seems like a lack of attention to detail from the kitchen.

In a city that’s often full of egregiously flawed preconceived notions regarding the local cuisine, Jackson + Rye really does fall short of expectation. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? One thing that certainly isn’t lacking at Jackson + Rye is the atmosphere — and the service as well. Located conveniently whether you’re out for a meal or seeking a bit of reprieve from the drink, you can expect to be seated swiftly and from a server crew with smiles on their faces. While I’ll admit my server was exceptionally slow with regard to refilling waters and settling the bill, that doesn’t overshadow what was otherwise a very pleasant experience. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? As nothing on the menu really blew me away with respect to the main dishes, my entire party opted to combo two starters into a meal. My truffled mac n cheese and half lobster were a suitable amount of food for what was a combined £19.20 — fair for a full meal. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? It was here that everything went wrong. The truffled mac n cheese? soupy, and lacking any flavor resembling truffles whatsoever. The pasta was overcooked, the crumbled top overdone, and the flavors simply absent from a dish that should otherwise be creamy and flavorful. The half lobster was equally poor, with little meat to speak of in a skeleton that was clearly overcooked as well. No butter dip? Interesting. All in all, this was poor across the board. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? London is absolutely stacked on fabulous dining, but Jackson + Rye falls well short of the curve with regard to quality of food. No Star Granted.

Visited Jackson + Rye for a late Sunday brunch with two girlfriends. When we arrived they couldn’t find our booking, but to be fair we had left a message to change it last minute, and they were helpful with finding us a table. The décor within Jackson + Rye is dark and a little claustrophobic, but there’s a definite buzz and a young crowd. Sadly this did seem to translate into a slight arrogance /snobbiness within at least one of the staff, who wasn’t particularly helpful when I requested to swap an item from my dish. It also took 15 – 20 minutes from arrival for us to get a drink, which seems excessive even when it’s reasonably busy. That said, the food is good — I had the vegetarian breakfast and enjoyed the mix of potatoes, halloumi, eggs, beans, spinach, tomatoes, kale and toast. The prices are also reasonable — less than £9 for the breakfast itself(fairly standard for London and less than you might expect for Wardour Street). Overall I do feel that the restaurant has a slight vibe of being too cool for school, which might be off putting for some, and I personally would enjoy the venue much more if it took on a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

I’m surprised to read people’s poor reviews of Jackson + Rye. I found my visit to be one of the best demonstrations of customer service anyone could ask for. We visited really late in the evening, right before they stopped serving food and transition into bar. They squeezed us in despite it almost being time for the kitchen to close and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. We had some great cocktails, delicious buttermilk fried chicken and the truffle mac & cheese is amazing. All the food we ate was fantastic. I would definitely come here again — great selection of comfort food and I loved my gooey marshmallow dessert. Yum!

The drinks were great. The black and rye was amazing. Main courses were just ok. The appetizers were much better. The truffle Mac and cheese is a must. I am sure there are other places in the area with better food but you should totally come here for the drinks.

Wow, was I excited about coming here. Looking at the(very comprehensive) menu beforehand, I thought Jackson & Rye might be the exact American Breakfast fix I was looking for. First off, the tables are jammed in. The space between ours and the one next to it was minuscule — always makes for a nice awkward private-public conversation. Not a place for relaying any big news or exciting gossip. When it came to ordering, we grappled with a waiter who spoke so quietly and so fast that I still, even after asking him to repeat what he was saying several times, have no idea what he was trying to tell us. The food was good, and arrived swiftly, and the bill was pleasantly low for the middle of Soho. Unfortunately, and I can’t really put my finger on why, I don’t have any desire to go back. By the time breakfast was over, I wanted to get out of there before they’d even cleared the plates. Please do let me know if I’m entirely wrong, but I really wasn’t impressed with the whole experience, and so my search for the best American breakfast in London continues.

I had a very pleasant visit at Jackson + Rye in the heart of Soho. I had very nice and polite service all day(I was there quite a long time as I was working). The venue is cool looking during the day as well as in the evening. I was also able to use it for working with a fast free internet and an electricity plug right next to me. Not really much to choose for a vegan but I had a nice avocado salad and sweet potato fries — both delicious: P Will definitely be going again.

J+R gets four stars for décor and ambiance. I love the feel of this place and someone has given the space a lot of thought. Very cool! The slight letdown is the food. It wasn’t horrible by any means but it solidly reminded me of Denny’s. Don’t get me wrong — I love Denny’s! Solid middle American chain food. Five of us came for a low key meal. We shared: Cornbread: served hot with a nice kick with the jalapeño peppers but oddly served with sour cream and scallions. I wanted a nice ball of whipped butter! Popcorn: £1.50 for a tiny portion. C’mon people. It’s popcorn. Popcorn is dirt cheap. You can afford to be a little more generous. Olives: bland olives! I won’t comment on the other mains but I had the chopped salad. It was good. Although would have appreciated the chicken being chopped too. Again, it was like a Denny’s salad, down to the glass plate it was served on! Not a bad experience but I’d go back for the ambience rather than the food. Probably a better spot for drinks!
