In every other flat/apartment/house/dorm I’ve ever lived, getting to a genuine music supply store involved a perilous trek. It was always in a strange part of town, or in a random unmarked building, or in the basement of a supermarket, or in some guy’s van… Or worse yet, I had to go to a huge mega-mall to find it sandwiched between stores like PetSmart and Sports Authority, and furthermore subject myself to the big-box sales mentality where my bags were checked upon entry and exit and on «Sunday, Sunday, Sunday all Drum Heads/Gibson Guitars/Wind Instruments,(etc.) Are Sl-sl-sl-slaaashhhhed!» Needless to say, there’s some baggage behind why I’ve been putting off getting new guitar strings for about 3-months. On an off chance, I thoughtlessly typed in «Music Stores» near«N1» into Unilocal. And there resting peacefully, un-photographed, un-reviewed and unbelievably close to my flat was Islington Music.(Insert angelic harmonic chorus here.) Tucked away just off Cross Street,(i.e. spitting distance from my flat) Islington Music is a humble mecca of all things musical and musicians-supply related. From individual guitar strings to drum heads, from sheet music to instruments for purchase, this pint-sized shop packs a punch! Plus the shop keeper was so kind to each of the patrons, searching for rare sheet music, recommending the best Christmas choral performances and even putting in orders for items that they don’t usually carry. As for me, my guitar strings will never go sour again as I truly don’t have an excuse. And as for you, trust that this humble shop is worth the trek as it’s the real deal.
