Finally a real italian pizza in London! Ok people forget about all the fake Italian chains or pizza express. If you really want to enjoy a very good pizza this is you place, and you’ll go home satisfied. The place is cozy and nice, is small and maybe when is totally full you might need to wait for a while. But it’s completely worth it!

Il Mirto is a small Italian restaurant in East Dulwich majoring on value, generous portions and taste. The 12″ margerita pizza I had cost a scarcely believable £4.50, tiramisu double the usual portion size a similarly low £3.50 and soft drinks just £1.50. Further, as they don’t sell alcoholic drinks they allow you to bring your own, for an incredible corkage fee of just £1. My bill for pizza, fruit juice, tiramisu and service came to a fraction over £11. But how did it all taste? Pretty good: the tomato sauce on the margerita was exceptional, comprised simply of sweet, juicy tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. The base was soft rather than crispy, but good enough. The only weakness was the quantity(rather than quality, which was reasonable) of the mozzarella, which was slightly excessive for me — next time I’ll ask them to reduce it slightly. The tiramisu was among the best I’ve tasted in London, with a good balance between cream, sponge, coffee and dusting. And, as I’ve mentioned, in a huge portion. Overall, an amazing find. I struggle to think of a better Italian pizzeria in south-east London for the prices charged.

We are locals, and we love Il Mirto! We go there every couple of weeks for the flavoursome and authentic Sardinian dishes, and we really like the people who run it. It’s an unpretentious no-frills place with sweet 50s décor and posters of Sardinia. Don’t forget to try the specials usually delicious homemade pasta such as venison ragu, and the tiramisu is to die for. This is a gem of a local that is worth supporting for its great food which is reasonably priced at about £7−8 a main, with BYO wine. We usually sit outside with a great bottle of red ;)

We driven past it a few times and its always been busy, so as a dutiful qype ninja we went to investigate. As you enter it, its like walking int a café in italy, simple well cooked food at a good price, cooked and served by people with thick italian accents. the food was great, I liked the simple décor, they didn’t mind our baby being breast fed. will defiantly be going back
