One thing I really love about Silicon Drinkabout, beside the natural«meet & mingle», is how great the places they pick are. This one is absolutely no exception to that! If you’re a beer fan, this probably is not the best place in my view. On tap, they only have Heineken, for £4.50 a pint. Quite cheap, isnt’t it? Well, it’s Heineken so it’s normal. They also have Ales in bottles, so at least you have options. If you’re a wino, £20 for a bottle. I love red wine, so my friend and I got a bottle. Again, not many options there, they only had one to offer… I don’t remember the name, but I can tell you it’s good enough for a Friday night drink! It seems to me that pints and wine do not really do justice to the place though. I saw a blackboard with a fantastic collection of pastries, cocktails and more. So I definitely need to go there again to experience all this place has to offer. But from the bit I saw, I already love it!

I’d actually decided to venture into Hoxton Pastry Union before I checked the reviews and I’m glad that it wasn’t the other way round. An average of 2.5 would probably have dissuaded me but I think that it deserves a much better score. Service was slightly haphazard but the food definitely hit the spot. I went for pie and mash for my lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Lots of tender beef in the pic encased in a tasty, crisp pastry and smothered in a lot of gravy. Just what the doctor ordered. I even got a bit jealous when someone else at the table was presented with their veggie breakfast. It looked fantastic and is what I’d try next time I venture in. One thing it’s taught me is that everywhere is worth a try, even if some of your fellow Unilocalers don’t think so!

Wow, can’t believe how many anti vibes this place has got from Unilocalers! We were on a mission after a late lunch to find somewhere with outdoor seating, cake, cocktails and coffee — et voila ! This place had all the above! Was a sunny arvo so outdoor seating was primo, great spot for people watching. Was a little confused about what this place is, a bar? A café? A restaurant? Didn’t matter, had everything we needed. Conveniently arrived before happy hour finished — £5 cocktails. Can vouch for the watermelon gin punch, caiprinha and negroni. The coffee and cake was also good. Service was friendly if not a little slow but I think they were a little slammed. Inside was bright and cosy, more café vibe. Outside’s the one though…

This place was so terrible — I wouldn’t send my enemies here. The staff were extremely rude and dismissive. The food was very lacklustre and bland. We went here with a group of four and all four meals were terrible.

I don’t know why people are down on this place. I turned up around 6 on a Friday night. I ordered a beef pie and wanted to order salad but they were out of it. That was a little annoying since it was early. The meat pie was delicious and tasted like my dad’s brisket. I got mash, which was fine. It’s a quick and cheap meal. They do have seating but they don’t do full service from what I understand.

What a disappointment. Came here for a late breakfast. Place typically ‘Hoxton’. All bare concrete, bare light bulbs and wooden pallets. Menu is typical breakfast fare plus pies, baguettes and pastries. You order from the bar where you pay, collect your drinks and take your table number for the food to be delivered by very sweet waitress. An order of scrambled egg, devilled mushrooms and lightly toasted sour dough sounded lovely. I was served rubbery, dry eggs, mashed potatoes(something was obviously lost in translation) and over toasted white bloomer bread. Then had to go through the process of getting a refund for the mash(I couldn’t be bothered to wait for the mushrooms). Drink wasn’t much better. Hot Chocolate-Cadbury’s drinking chocolate served luke warm(why is hot chocolate never actually served hot?). Will not be returning.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a pie and see what the place was all about. The food was really good — I had the beef pie and my partner had the chicken pie. We loaded up with some sides as well. The pastry was flakey and delicious and the pies were well filled. It’s a very cool spot but could definitely be a bit cozier. The décor was a bit pared down and there was a bit of a draft coming from the door, so some more soft furnishings might warm the place up a bit. Having said that, would definitely go back in search of more pie!

The pie is good but the service not so… the waitress barely talks english and have no idea about things on the menu also couldn’t explain it, she also was a bit rude and I felt pretty uncomfortable plus they say they do cocktails there but they don’t even have a menu for it. The staff is unprofessional(saved by a waiter that have notion of what is going on on his work place). so. if you are going there for a pie I would recommend to take away, it did not felt good to be there and by the way the chairs by the window are not very comfortable to sit at and they are a little to big for the high of the table.

I know this place will get better, but at the moment, I recommend you come only if you are a forgiving person. I ordered a carrot cake thinking it would be the«homemade cake — £1.5.» It was(very average) outside-made cake for £3. There were no signs anywhere indicating this information. I pointed it out to the staff, who tried to point to a non-existent sign telling me I was mistaken, and ended up shrugging an apology. It was a sincere shrug, but that’s all I’m gonna get – we’re a long way from Kansas in terms of customer service. Other than that, it is a nice place to sit and work while it’s still not very busy. A little loud to have an external phone call. They didn’t pressure me to buy more than my cake, but seeing as I could have bought two«homemade cakes» for the same price, I did my part. Not sure how the wireless works – don’t have time to figure it out. Decent choice of music – Late Night Tales curated by Bonobo. If you don’t know, now you know.
