I’m torn on this review. The Hotel Montana is somehow both worse and better than we expected. After walking up four flights of stairs, after walking into a hotel room that stank of smoke, after seeing the two single beds(not twins, but singles)(I wasn’t sure they existed), after seeing the single toilet shared with the other seven rooms on our floor(with a door that only locks some of the time)…I wasn’t sure what I could possibly say about it that was positive. There are a few things: It’s cheap. Our rate right now was £59 per night, dirt cheap for London. There is something to the«you get what you pay for» maxim, and it’s true here. It’s clean. Sure, it’s ancient. But the linen is clean, the(shared) toilet room is clean, the showers and washbasins are clean. Location. The reason my dad booked the rooms here in the first place is because it’s a five minute(or less) walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras station. My parents are getting older, and walking long distances is difficult. Hotel Montana is close, and even though it’s near the train station, feels safer than I expected. The last thing is the people. They moved my parents down from the top floor room(nearly impossible for mom to climb the stairs) to the ground floor. They found a new adapter for me when mine wasn’t working. They were friendly, efficient, and went a long way making up the deficits in this cheap hotel. Another reviewer gave this hotel five stars. That’s ridiculous. In some ways two stars feels generous. If you’re looking for a two star hotel that, after five nights begins to feel like home, this might be for you. But you’ll be happier than ever to head for your real home.

Günstig und einigermaßen Zentral bietet es Zimmer in den verschiedesten Kategorien. Ich steige hier immer ab, wenn ich in London bin.

If you are after something cheap and cheerful that doesn’t break the budget then you should consider this place. It has the advantage of being in a good location — right near Kings Cross station and Euston station if you need to travel into the city or make an exit from the big smoke. Granted, it is basic, but then if all you want is a room with a bed, an ensuite and a tv and dont want to pay big bucks then it could be for you. I have tried to find other hotels in this area and others for less money but failed(there are a few in this area that are a little bit more expensive) and always ended back here. Its very clean, not spacious and you can get breakfast in the morning(which is included in the price).
