Pretty bad meal. I had a burger. Ordered it with cheese but it came without. Send it back and got the cheese but also a well done burger as a result. Ordered the curly fries but came with a really nasty and tasteless cheese on top that was not advertised. Made it inedible. Husband has all day breakfast and the sausage must have been cooked in the morning and reheated. My daughters chicken pie was dry and she couldn’t eat it.

A cosy pub, with a warm dark wood feel and lots of big wooden tables. However that they play cheap pop music on their sound system, the tables are sticky and it has a generic menu hosting pub favourites, bad graphics and 2 meals for £12 — screams that it’s a chain pub. It’s got a bit of quirk if you look around here and there, some nice little features. Speech bubbles stuck to the ceiling, fresh flowers, a bit of history in some of the furniture and the art, but it’s really lost in the generic ambiance and feel. We’d stopped off for a bite to eat before an event in the area, so picked the hop poles for convenience, ordering two fish and chips. The fish was great, really crispy, with the batter being thin and not too greasy, but the chips were nothing special, and as for the peas, there were just so few of them to be able to comment. Whilst it was good value for the price and not a bad meal, I just felt the place was pretty soulless. It was more functional and I wouldn’t say I enjoyed eating here. We walked away feeling that we’d had a better meal than most, but that this was just okay pub grub — nothing outstanding. I’ve been here drinking before and they have a good selection of ales, but I prefer drinking in more intimate settings. Whilst they have a lot of tables, these are big tables and with only 1 – 2 people sitting on them the place feels empty and it’s a tough one asking to sit with other people when you want to chat with friends. A good choice for the area and if you need a fast meal and a sit down by the station, but nothing special. If you have the time there are so many better places, such as the Ship, which is by the river, for overall experience and food.

The Hop Poles is a fantastic, cosy pub, great for groups, couples or solitary diners on a rainy Summer’s afternoon. Being a new to London luddite, I sometimes find the myriad craft taps at a bar intimidating. This pub has a good selection of the nice and the nasty, keeping everyone happy. The staff were friendly, and reserved a table with half an hour’s notice on a Friday night — unheard of! Give this a go, though no guarantees that you’ll pull it off. Try the chips, with the usual selection of sauces available. An easy place to go, and to get home from, I couldn’t recommend The Hop Poles more.

The first time I came here I was with a group from work and we had a few ciders on the roof terrace. It was such a nice atmosphere, everyone had that Friday feeling and the drinks were your average Londom prices. However since this occasion I went with a friend for lunch. It was completely empty inside, giving me the impression its only used after 5.30pm! The waitress was not talkative at all, didn’t give us a welcoming smile and simply pointed to a table for us to sit at. We asked for minute more to choose our dish as it all sounded tasy and she didn’t come back for about 15. I ordered macaroni cheese for around £8 and my friend had lasagne with a side of chips. Bearing in mind he had a train to catch, we thought allowing half an hour would be ample(especially seeing as were the only customers). We waited this 30 minutes before I decided to go to the bar and ask where the hell it was. Apparently there was a delay with the chips(!) and the final wait time was 45 minutes. I had about 3 pieces of macaroni on my plate so the prices were extortionate for the portion sizes! This may seem like a rant but I had raced to my friend how nice it was(from my experience if the roof terrace) and we were bitterly disappointed. All on all, come here for an after work drink(if you don’t mind standing as it’s rammed) but don’t attempt food.

I have been to the hop poles before and had nice food albeit a little slow. But on my last two visits the service has been absolutely appalling and I ended up leaving the pub with a full pint behind me on my last trip. The staff were on a different planet. There was only a small amount of people at the bar and I was still left standing for ten minutes without even a look in my direction. Then on enquiring about food I was told there had been a problem with the kitchen all day and they were not serving food, even though there were menus everywhere. The tables were covered in glasses, the place was a mess. Seemingly the staff are as poor at picking up glasses as they are at serving drinks. This confirms the fact that if you have had a bad experience once that you should NEVERGOBACKAGAIN

Ahh a lovely little pub with cosy seats. I’ve been here once before on a Friday, but much prefer the Sunday chilled out vibe. Lovely staff who go that extra mile too. They serve delicious mulled wine — always a plus during the Christmas time.

Hop Poles is very convenient to my office so we regularly pop down there for an after work drink. It’s always lively with a great atmosphere and is often very busy. They have a good selection of beers on tap though it seems they only have two of the six they tend to display at any one time. You’d think if it says that they sell a particular beer they’d not be out of all bur two!!! Anyway, the pub also has a nice menu with lots of food options, though not many for those with food allergies. The staff are friendly and polite despite being rushed off their feet. The bar is nicely decorated with lots of different areas. Their outdoor terrace is particularly nice to sit outside with friends.

Awesome curry. Seriously. It can get very crowded so arrive early, grab a couch, have a few beers, then eat a curry dinner. Burgers are also good. And a decent selection of beers.

Popped in here for lunch with my sister and it was really surprisingly quiet. The food was pretty good. I opted for fish and chips which came with homemade tartare sauce. My sister went for the BBQ chicken nachos which were also handmade and almost like pastry, definitely good value for money. We also had dessert which was worth having. The reason I haven’t given this more stars is because, there was zero atmosphere and the service wasn’t really up to scratch. The pub is really spacious and I imagine it might be better of an evening. Also, the high benches really aren’t good for short people like me, I felt like I was tackling a climbing frame just to get seated.

A free-house in Hammersmith that lacks exciting beer. There were about six casks, several were Brains, one was Cottage. Condition was not optimal. Ambiance is nice enough. The cask beer seemed slightly expensive given its caliber. You would probably be able to find a tick or two in this place, so that’s about the only reason to stop in here, and only if you’re in the area.

A modest selection of real ales, served by friendly staff in quirky surroundings. Will absolutely come here for a drink again, but will pass on the food. We had fishcakes, with one small chunk of fish between two cakes and a distinctly sad heap of pre-cut and unloved salad. The liver and bacon was absent even the smallest morsel of bacon, the liver was dry and overcooked, and the gravy fell on the ‘Bisto’ end of the scale, thickly covering an otherwise tasty pile of mash.

Good beers and good food. I did end up spending a whole evening here. I drank my fill of Pride and had a damn good Cesar Salad. It was pretty busy so good for people watching and some heated discussions on the smoking patio out back. Huge downside is that there was something majorly wrong with the woman’s toilets. They would not flush so they were all piled with toilet paper. Nasty. Apparently a bar staff member had some trick because half way through the night some were mysteriously unplugged only to not flush again. If they could get this problem sorted out they would gain a star in my book. Very typical pub, nothing to shout about but a good time was had by all. We even had the hangovers the next day to prove it.

A spacious pub with a decent selection of lagers, ales and the like. Seems a good place for a group to meet up., plenty of elbow room. The music was a bit ump humph humph humph but then it was a Saturday night.

Real ale fans may scoff at this funkily wallpapered and vintage befurnitured gastroid joint, but having come from the William Morris over the way, it was a refreshing change. The pub was busy with a young crowd on the Saturday night we went, but we still found a table on which to lean. They have a wine list and a selection of beers which included both Amstel and Timothy Taylor’s delicious Landlord bitter, and music playing at a sensible level. It’s a light, bright, young trendy bar/pub fusion thing. It’s never going to be the reason for a night out, but it’s a good place to meet for a pint after work, after a show at the Apollo or after being ID’d and then stuck to the carpets at the Lloyd’s Bar opposite.

I often pop into the Hop Poles for a bit of food and a beer when I have been shopping in Hammersmith. Centrally located it gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so it is a good venue for a laugh and a good time. Wouldn’t stay there all night however as there are better places in my opinion for a night out. That said cheap pub grub and ideal if you want a break form the hustle of King Street. Whilst shopping. It has two bars — one upstairs which leads out to a smallish heated decked area where I they accept bookings for private functions and the main bar downstairs which is quite big with plenty of seating. Do some special offers on cocktails if you are in the mood. An ideal place to meet up before your big night out.
