About two years ago I bought a sparkly bejewelled collar for my Shi Tzu, Mac, intending only to use it when I was doing trade shows etc, with him all nicely groomed and showing off my skills. One day I came home from a show and my assistant took a bunch of dogs out for a walk. Too late I realised Mac still had the«delicate» posh collar on! Oh, well, I thought, serves me right for spending silly money on fripperies. Well, as expected, Mac came home covered in weeds from the lake, twigs and leaves from the woods, soaking wet and very pleased with himself! I went to remove what must surely be a bare and tattered collar and… Perfect! He’s now had it on every day since, plays roughly with labradors and lurchers, rolls on his back on the pebbles of Brighton Beach and generally behaves like a nutter — not a single sparkly bead has loosened or even dulled! Several of my dogs and many of my clients now have Holly and Lil collars and i’ve never heard a bad word. These are not cheap, but neither are they expensive, they’re just spectacular value for what you get.

Walked into Holly and Lil the other weekend and walked out with a very smart Harris tweed collar for our new puppy. Very friendly staff, and very dog friendly environment. Make sure you take your dog as they are allowed to run around and generally rule the place. Excellent quality gear — very well made.

I was recently I a shop and overheard another customer ecstatic at the exciting prospect of giving her dog a £60 hand painted personalised dog bowl. Apparently she would no longer have to buy her husband a good Christmas present as he too would be so thrilled by the dog bowl, as for the dog, «he will simply love it». This was not even a pet shop. I am not one and ever will be the kind of person to dress up dogs and cats in diamanté collars and outfits to match my own. If however, you are then I cannot imagine you finding fault with Holly ad Lil. It is not all fashion to doll up your dog but also organic treats, biodegradable poo sacks, collars and leads. The shop is spacious, modern, well presented and although I am no expert it seems high quality. If this shop were for humans, I would probably really love it. As it is I find it slightly weird, but then again I am not the target customer.

This is one of the nicest shops I have ever been in, and it didn’t even sell anything for me! I went in here to get a collar for a dog and man did I go to the right place. Holly and Lil make handmade collars here in England and you can even get bespoke ones made or individual charms to add to your own collar. You can bring your own dog or cat in when you’re shopping and the lady who runs the shop had a couple of her own sitting on the couch inside. It’s a really big shop with loads of room for animals to knock around and all the expensive stuff is kept safely high up from where dogs can’t grab them. The owner knows dog breeds inside out and once I told her what breed I was buying for she instantly knew what size and material to buy(apparently Maltese dogs roll around in undesirables so you need a wipe clean fabric!) They also sell really sweet little toys and mini dog biscuits because mainstream pet stores don’t cater for little dog’s little teeth! You can buy on their online shop too, it’s expensive but these are such nice presents to give someone for a treat.

If you want to spoil your pet this is the place to go. Amazing collars and accessories that just look fab, you can go quite overboard. Be warned this is a shop for a people with deep pockets. But the products are well worth the cost. The owners are amazingly friendly and you can even met Holly and Lil and give them a scratch behind the ear. Oh and of course you pet is also warmly welcomed here as well.
