Well Chris you are obviously a pub and beer expert. I on the other hand are just an ordinary guy who likes to be able to pop into a pub and have a drink and perhaps some food.
This pub used to be called Tommy Flynns and indeed there are still many web references under that name. Last July this pub closed for two months for some expensive looking renovations which did not change the overall layout much. It was closed for two very hot months when I would have dearly wanted a cool drink there. It reopened under the new Hercules name but seems to have mostly the same people running it.
Although some of the clientele may look a little rough, I have never seen any arguments or fights there and most are quite friendly if you choose to speak to them.
Unfortunately, last June I had a problem getting served for 22 minutes with no obvious reason. I subsequently posted the following review on another web site. I like pubs and would like this one to survive as it is a very convenient location where a pub is very useful. But I do wish they would improve their service and at least their food has been reinstated after two years of none at all.
"""I occasionally stop for a drink at the conveniently located pub.
Unfortunately today it was fairly warm and I was quite thirsty. So I stopped by and sat at the right end of the bar hoping to be served and hold a £5 note to indicate my intentions.
The pub was not very busy with only about 16 people there. There was only one person serving all the time that I was there. Tall and older with white hair. He served everyone else but for some reason did not want to even look at me.
Most of the time there were only a couple of people at the bar and they were all served quickly so I could not understand why he seemed unable to even see me.
I was not there for only two minutes, I was there for a whole 23 minutes and that is a very long time when you are thirsty and watching every one else being served.
Now a pub is a business and relies on selling drinks and there I was waiting to buy one! I have not seen any food being sold there for a year or two so I do not know of they have stopped.
But with the high costs of operating a business in London and the terrific increase in gas and electricity if they do not improve their sales technique then I doubt it will still be open in a year's time."""
