Halcyon Gallery

I do not visit a ton of galleries in this range. Considering my excitement over free drinks at Unilocal events, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I’m unable to shell out £75K for a painting.
Disclaimer out of the way, I love art museums and London certainly brings it with the NPG, National Gallery, Tate, Tate Modern, Frieze Fair, etc. This is a much smaller gallery with usually two or so rotating collections. And one of the other reviewers is incorrect — the art here is all for sale and you probably can’t afford it. I certainly can’t, though recently wished I could have one of the metalwork tables that Bob Dylan created. This is located in a high-​rent part of London and if you’re more the Oxford + Regent Street shopper type, you might feel a little uncomfortable walking in. To illustrate this point, the last time I stopped in, I tripped up the stairs upon entering. The doorman did not even flinch or laugh or crack a smile in judgment. So that was awesome.
They are very hands-​off and will let you browse at your own speed. You can stay as long or rush through as quickly as you like. There are gallery books available for purchase and I believe they don’t mind children, as I’ve seen a few there. This isn’t really something I’d rush out of my way to check unless there was something on that I wanted to see, but it’s central and easy to get to and I find it a really pleasant gallery. Now I just need to find a benefactor.

Gorgeous open space. None of the works are cluttered. Everything is neatly organized. I came here to see the Chihuly exhibit and I was super impressed with the amount of pieces they had.
Unfortunately the exhibit is now closed but I would suggest visiting here just to have a peek. It’s free! The best price ever.

More like a museum than an art gallery, as I think a gallery implies that it’s for sale. If this stuff is for sale, it’s done very subtly or the concierge simply could tell that me and my sneakers («trainers» in Brit-​speak) weren’t going to be able to afford any of it.
An interesting collection that is neatly organized. Sculptures on the ground floor were from artists who have other things on display around and about in London. On the lower floor, a few Bob Dylans (I really liked the one that didn’t have the caption but was mostly red and brown with an image of a hotel room) Several lovely sculptures including «David 2020» which was in the same white marble like Michaelangelo’s David, but this was in the figure of a woman.
It was free. Well worth an hour of browsing. There is no audio guide. There were no signs saying that photographs were prohibited.
