I generally like Greggs, but my experiences at this branch have been consistently terrible. Twice the staff serving me have been unfamiliar with the pricing of their products(to be fair to them, the material promoting it wasn’t very clear), leaving me out painfully out of pocket. And the coffee I’ve bought here has been undrinkable. A note on the coffee: I’m not expecting ‘artisan’ quality. I fully recognise that that’s unrealistic. However, I also appreciate that the mark up on coffee is generally very high, and as such, there’s a market for cheap but okay coffee churned up by ‘bean to cup’ machines in places like Greggs, and as ably demonstrated by Waitrose. As such, I applaud the competitive deals offered by Greggs, such as a sandwich and coffee for around £3, or porridge and coffee for £2. Unfortunately though, the reality of the coffee served here falls far short of what could reasonably be expected, and needs to be improved before these deals live up to their promise. Le Pain du Jour, a few doors down, have got it right, offering a bacon baguette and good enough filter coffee for £2.25. Skip Greggs, and go there for cheap coffee and sarnie deals.
