Nice and comfortable bar. We had mussels and bread as starter. Mussels are delicious with the special sauce. As for the main the Simon fillet tasted really good.

This has been a local favorite of our family’s for many, many years, if not decades. A great place within easy walking distance of home, with great food reasonably priced, and tremendous history. Sadly, it seems that the management has changed and with the old went all the quality of food and service. The Christmas meal there last week was dismal, very poorly cooked and presented and that and the lackluster service spoiled utterly the day for us. A second chance, lunch there yesterday, confirmed that this place has lost our patronage. The food again was poorly cooked and unappetizing, the service slow and disinterested. It is with very, very great regret that we turn our backs on this once-venerable pub.

If you didn’t have a love for giant garden games in beer gardens, you’d basically have found yourself in an average pub with a weird(not very pretty) beer garden. But I DO love giant Connect Four and Jenga, so I didn’t even notice the averageness. I was too busy taking blocks from places I shouldn’t be and watching bricks tumble to the floor. Not overly friendly staff, average ales, UGLY garden décor(seriously, that fountain? no no no), but if you’re with awesome people and you like silly games you’ll like it here. It’s made by the people you’re with, but it’s not the best in Putney.

I live down the street from this Pub and have always felt welcomed. For a Young’s Pub they provide a great setting that is unique to the buildings structure. They have a lovely outdoor garden that is perfect in Spring and Summer. On tap is a good mixture of real ale, beer and cider, they also have a good range of wine. The food is excellent, though a little pricey but nevertheless is still worth a try. It’s conveniently located across from the Putney Heath Green Man bus station, hosting plenty of buses to get to or from this charming pub. The atmosphere is warm, the staff are friendly as are the locals that frequent. If you’re around the area it’s worth dropping in, you won’t be disappointed.

This is a very good pub for London; even good for Putney-Wimbledon. It is well set out, both inside and outside, having a big beer-garden at the back and a lot of chairs and tables at the front. The staff and owners are nice people, and it is, all in all, an excellent addition to the pubs around the Common. A minor problem is that it looks out on a mini-bus station and a main road, but few pubs in London can escape from urban life; apart from these, it looks out on Putney Heath, and on a quiet day you can imagine you are in the country, with a bit of imagination. 5 stars for London; maybe 3⁄5 comparing it to the best of England. A really nice and genuine pub; definitely recommend.

I’ve been to the green man quite a bit, as it used to be my local. They recently(like a year ago) had an overhaul of the décor. Although this was part of the Youngs branding being slapped across the whole place, I was still pleased to see it. A nice selection of eclectic furniture. They have a quiz every Tuesday, pump Youngs, Youngs Special, and serve a few of the Youngs bottles. The food is also pretty good, and I think reasonably priced for London. One of the best things about the overhaul was the extension of the beer garden. There is a lot of space out there for what appears to be a pub on a village green. Definitely worth checking out, and I also believe they do summer BBQs in the garden. Only 3 stars as its a pub chain, and the selection of real ale isn’t out of this world. But, a very decent pub for Putney and with more character than those on the high street. Also, a decent selection of locals go here which suggests the bar is well run.
