Went here for a friend’s birthday on a Sunday evening so it was relatively quiet. Despite this the service was just really poor. Had to wait a long time for drinks. Bad food. Overcharging. Forgotten orders. They did in fact offer free shots and some free food to make up for it but I wasn’t overly impressed. Cocktails were good and on offer.

Stopped here for lunch just as they were opening on a Monday. Ordered a few cocktails, all of which were delicious – I would especially recommend the Ice Cream Dream. Food was also very good, go for the Carnivorous Pizza.

Came in after a stroll down the canal to meet some friends for drinks. All of the cocktails on the £5 menu deal were pretty good, although not quite craft cocktail status. I personally ordered an old fashioned and a Martinez. We switched to beers but the selection was limited. Overall the bar is fine if unremarkable. It appeared that it would turn into a dance club later. However what mad us mad was the service. Very slow. But the worst part was that the tables were«reserved» for people coming in later. Although they were already an hour late and still not arrived, we were told we could not sit. Just classless. Will not return. I am no opposed to reserved tables but over an hour late, and all wee were asking was to sit there until the people came. We did like our initial server who was on her training shift. She tried hard to please us.

Great offer cocktails for 5 but not the biggest portion and can get really busy. Last pub with outdoor seating and plays music too. Takes quite a while too get a drink probably because everyone is having a cocktail but still great place to catch up with friends. Yet to try the food

Went in for a drink on a Saturday afternoon. Really funky atmosphere and friendly staff. Food looked amazing and surprisingly reasonably priced!

Grand Union is a nice little bar in Camden. I visited it a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. Though the place was pretty bussy the service was good and our orders arrived quickly. Food was very nice too(I had a royal sandwich). We went there around 6 so we didn’t miss the happy hour, which is between 4 and 8. I warmly recommend this bar to those who want to spend the evening in a welcoming place with loud music and friendly staff.

I can’t say enough on how accommodating these folks are. I had a group of 20 students that I was trying to set up a group dinner in Camden Town. I must have called a half dozen restaurants in the area until I reached the folks at the Grand Union. In about 10 minutes, Edward and the team worked out a very affordable feast. When we arrived, we had two booths and the food just kept on coming. Tasty, filling, warm. The wait staff made sure our beverages were always replenished. If I’m back here next summer, I will include Grand Union on the list of restaurants to include for our student activities.

Stuffed our faces with delicious, greasy diner food and fabulous cocktails at happy hour… Happy customers!!!

I ducked in here with some friends to get out of the rains and sort out dinner plans. I ordered a pot of tea and sat uninterrupted with 2 other people for about an hour. We really enjoyed it being relaxing mid day. I went back with my husband a few other nights in a row and arrived with the music so loud I couldn’t order from the bar. The place was crawling with people. I honestly just wanted to order some food from their menu at the bar, eat and duck out. I would’ve if the loud music wasn’t so bloody awful. My bottom line– I’ll be back to chill another rainy afternoon.

Stopped here for an extremely late lunch after a meeting in Camden and ordered a cheeseburger and beer(asked for a Sprite, but the bartender girl looked at me like I was nuts and couldn’t find one… ended up with a 1664). The burger was ok and the pub was cozy and reasonably /sorta clean. I can see this place being a typical sweaty packed pub on a Friday night, but on a Thursday afternoon, it was A-OK for a short pitstop. I would go back, but not because the food or service was fantastic, just to meet friends for a beer would probably be my limit.

Good drinks, good rum. Speedy service at the bar. Music played too loud though in the early evening.

Random. Random is what last Friday night was, where I moved in a semi-haze from place to place in Camden, and only remembered on Sunday morning that I had checked in here, and I had quite liked it. The first thing to point out is the décor, particularly the lighting. I’m lately a huge fan of lighting, as a friend and I go back and forth on instagram with an #ilovelamp tag, every time we find cool lamps and fixtures in the city. Grand Union has lots to choose from – with funky lampshades and a full embrace of eclectic electrics. They tiki bar area where we were sitting was nice, though it was a bit of a bummer that the servers weren’t actually serving direct to the tables in the area. It seems like that’s what it’s set up for, but just wasn’t happening. Music is good, standard drink options, and I saw people dancing, talking, getting silly, and generally enjoying the night. It looks, from just walking around, that this is the kind of place where you can do whatever you like with the night. Including have a deep debate of religious theory, as we did at my table. That’s my kind of place.

Surprisingly huge place. We hung out in the front area next to the bar. The dj was playing a weird mix of danceable tunes(we were a few drinks in by the time we arrived though so bear that in mind) on a thursday night. Nothing too special but better than average. The girls bathrooms were disgusting. Two of the four toilets were ridiculously clogged with paper and other things but of the few hours that we were there nothing was done about it. Though I don’t blame them… I wouldn’t go in there either.

An average pub in Camden with some very good points. You still have to wait ages to get served but the food is average for a pub that wants to be known for having good food, seen better but seen a lot worse. The burgers were so big that my colleague dropped it about three times. Its pretty convenient being just outside Camden Road Station and has a tenuously named beer garden, or benches on the pavement. The bar is stocked with al the usual beers and wines. Where do excel is with the cocktails, I had this wonderful grapefruit one which was perfect for the hot day. Generally pleasant for a group but not a date.

The burgers are very good, and it’s worth visiting to try them. They aren’t the cheapest, but I was ok with this because they were just so darn tasty! I wish the beer selection was a bit better – then I’d visit more often. Seems like a comfy place, and the staff are nice. I’d definitely try this place if you’re in the area.

Totally agree with all the reviews of this place– I was desperate to find such a funky bar in Camden and almost lost the hope until last night:-) I enjoyed the cocktails very much, the burgers which look and taste great and staff are very friendly– apparently there is a promotion going on for student(which I hope I am) for two cocktails for the price of one; trying to encourage students to. stop what they have come in to do the place is spacious and I can’t imagine you walking into it Saturday night without finding a place to sit it is just a bit dark-maybe replace the bulbs with new ones management of the Grand Union

Grand Union was a cool venue for a recent UYE. Convenient for public transport links for a south Londoner like me while all the local Unilocalers struggled with cancelled trains and Tube lines shut for engineering works! The place reminded me of friends with its sofas, nooks and crannies. A nice Fusball table and an electric organ with some missing keys but nowhere for Phoebe to sing ‘Smelly Cat’! It almost lost a star for being unable to serve quite a few cocktails requested due to not having ginger ale and orange juice but fortunately, the great Unilocal company saved them. Just get some OJ in, dudes.

This is my favourite bar for doing my studying. The décor is warm and there are many nooks and areas to lounge in that give you plenty of privacy. The music isn’t invasive and it is easy to concentrate on work or hold a conversation. The conservatory is a nice area to sit in as you can watch the world outside in comfort. The food is excellent. I especially recommend the burgers. They are big, tasty and inexpensive. The cocktail list is extensive with forty cocktails to choose from and the bartenders make them well. The Grand Union is a really nice bar with friendly staff and occasionally house A-list celebrities.

With a venue also in Islington I prefer this one. It takes up the corner of Camden Road and Royal College St. far(7 minutes walking distance) from the high street its stripped from the crowds. Rightly, it is worth mentioning their décor, with so many different things going on, every time you go in you will discover something new, like Japanese fan umbrellas, Chinese lanterns and a Tom Cruise poster from the ‘Cocktail’ film. Speaking of cocktails, thumbs up on their great selection too many to choose from and they are all good! Haven’t had their food, but their late evening turn into a funky and soul kind of night with live DJ’s in the floral booth. Great night out with the girls! Also, the lighting will always make you look good, even tanned in the winter! their chandeliers(not all of them) are bronze and really warm the atmosphere in an instant!

The Grand Union is a cool eclectic décor with retro booths hidden around the edge of the bar, vintage wallpaper, old style English gentleman styled seating and some gorgeous lamps-i love the interior it’s great. The Grand Union brands itself as a bar and grill and they do do a good burger and chunky chips. When the sun goes down it morphs into a more lively cocktail fuelled environment which is great fun. Their mojitos are great but go ahead and try one of their 40 or so cocktails. They also have a good selection of beers and wines. It has a welcoming, homely feel with the warm, cosy furniture and friendly staff. The bar definitely has great personality and as it’s away from the main busy Camden streets it’s never over run with tourists-they have maintained a great local feel to the pub.
