I know you are not supposed to have anything other than steak at a steakhouse but had to comment on the delicious non-steak meal I had here during a work function. We had three courses: started with cauliflower soup, which was delicious! Though I wished I had ordered the fish chowder. I ordered the fish although my colleagues had rump steak. It was one of the best piece’s of fish I have ever had. Perfectly cooked. Moist and well seasoned. Totally impressive! For desert the bread and butter pudding was a spectacular end of meal in an unbeatable location across from Big Ben. Highly recommended!

Our waitress was in a hurry to get our orders. Did not the specials. Never came back any time during our super long service to see how our food was or to get new drink orders. Had to flag someone else down when the special was loaded with fish bones, which he fixed fairly quickly . We definitely won’t be back!

Man, this place was expensive. But it was really good as well. My little reward to myself in London was to take myself out for a nice steak dinner at a place that wasn’t too far from my hotel in Waterloo. Gillray’s definitely fit the bill. After checking my reservation and taking my jacket, they brought me to a nice table and showed me their drink menu on an iPad. Now, the tech stuff is cool and I’m totally down with that, however, since I couldn’t actually order from it, I’m not entirely sure what the point was of using an electronic menu. Anyway. I enjoyed a great gin and tonic before dinner with some gin that I couldn’t pronounce the name of. It was super refreshing though and definitely did the job. The t-bone streak that I ordered was massive. I also ordered their yukon mashed potatoes as well, both were excellent. The food was exceptional at this steakhouse. The service was also great as well, as you could imagine. My only real gripe about Gillray’s was the construction that made finding it difficult. Also, when I left, me and an older gentleman both had to walk cautiously because it was so dark near the front entrance that neither one of use could see. I had to use the flashlight from my iPhone to help us both down the stairs. I think Gillray’s should address this. Other than that, Gillray’s was excellent all-around. Pricey, but excellent.

Terrible food and even worse service. Ordered 2 steaks medium and one was swimming in blood on the plate. Rest of meal was bland at best.

We were staying at the hotel so we went here for the convenience. We had a window seat with beautiful views. The service was terrific and the food was delicious! My favorite part was the warm English stout apple strudel! Amazing!!! I actually stopped by the bar the next night to get it again!

Where do I start? … Lovely venue and a beautiful view of the riverbank … If you’re looking for fresh out the Red Sea kinda fish this is the place! I ordered their fish and chips with mushy peas … Whoa! That fish was so fresh I wasn’t sure it was even dead! It just falls apart in your mouth unlike other places where you spend a century just trying to cut into the damn thing! The triple cooked chips are the bomb and the service is warm apart from this one guy with a jacket two sizes small! Watch out for him haha

Located inside the Marriott County Hall, it’s a fancy steakhouse by night and the main breakfast buffet by day. As far as hotel breakfast buffets go, this is one of the better ones. Super friendly service and pretty fresh offerings. I ate here twice so far and each time things were a bit different. The continental portion has mostly breads, pastries, fruit, and cereals and yogurts. Thick, Greek Yogurt is all they have — which is great from qualify and health standpoint. I really enjoyed their almond croissants: crispy outside, very puffy and filled with air, and just enough sweetness. Their muesli is also very good — thick, creamy, and fruity. Their hot selections on one day was order from menu — basically everything made to order from an English Breakfast menu. It would be scary to eat everything from it so I picked the potatoes, scrambled eggs, mushroom, and their pork-and-leek sausages. The sausages were amazingly good — nice seared outer crust and smoky and juicy interior. On their second day, they forgone the made-to-order format and set up a bunch of hot plates for a true buffet. They used these cute cast iron containers to hold in all the heat. The items: sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, and mushrooms were still decent, but not as good as the order-from-menu format.

Went here on a Sunday and got the«Sunday Roast». Man it was very good and it was a lot of food for 17 or 18 pounds. It came with the following: 30 days dried age steak with bone marrow sauce cauliflower with cheese lots of veggies sweet pumpkin tots some potatoes bloody/virgin mary and something else I also ordered the truffle fries and that was excellent but a bit pricey… but it’s London!

We enjoyed a pleasant complimentary breakfast at Gillrays in the Marriott county hall in London. We had the full English which was bountiful and twice as much food as I could eat.(-; I’d say the meal was average and the portions generous. The service was outstanding and friendly. They made me a rich strong cappuccino with milk and double cream, just the way I love it. The view of the river at breakfast is pleasant. I liked the homemade yogurt on the continental buffet, and the breads. I didn’t realize until I was finished that they can toast the tasty bagels from the buffet if you wish. If you order the full English, it also includes the continental buffet.

Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar is located within the Mariott County Hall hotel, right on the south bank, with touristy but actually nice views of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament across the Thames. At times, they close the shutters and eliminate the view, but if you are lucky and the sun eventually goes down, they will open the shutters so you can enjoy these iconic landmarks. So, the location is good. Let’s move on. I started my dinner on this nice and warm day as usual with a fresh white wine. When I spotted a Riesling on the menu the decision was made. I had once a terrible Riesling experience with a Californian wine, but this one was a well-balanced and dry Riesling, just as it should be. A very good wine, indeed. Surprisingly, they do not provide bread and butter. Instead, they try to grab your attention with a Yorkshire pudding with cheese and a horseradish dip. It is not the worst idea for the sake of being different. For me, the Yorkshire pudding could do with more cheese, but I was pretty happy with this bread replacement. Being at a steak house, of course I ordered a steak as my main. To begin with the side, the triple cooked chips were really nice. The fillet steak came medium rare and tasted good. However, the good flavour was compromised by a few surprisingly fatty bits, something I do not expect from a £30 fillet steak. The ice cream I and for dessert was fine, so overall, the food is quite ok, possibly slightly overpriced. For the same money, I can get a better steak in London, just not with the same view. The waitresses and waiters were lovely and very friendly; in summary the service was good, only sometimes I waited a little bit too long for my liking. A waiter at my neighbours’ table provided an unintended entertainment stunt with a little champagne fountain. Because I really liked the service staff, the waiting time would not have a negative impact on my overall rating. But one detail certainly did annoy me. When I asked for the bill, they wanted me to sign my bill. And as with every«contract», what else could this be, I asked for a copy. What I got was a reprint without my signature, and as such not very useful as a proper document, from my point of view. I asked the waiter why I should sign the receipt that usually I would take home at all, and he said that the new food and beverage manager set up this rule. I have been eating out quite a few times in recent years, and I was never asked to sign my receipt just to sign the receipt. I think this rule is misguided and I feel sorry for the service and kitchen staff, but I will not come back soon. I will rather go to MASH, Goodman, Hawksmoor, CUT45, 34 or Flat Iron, just to name a few, for my next steak. They all provide better quality and have no weird rules about signatures, at least not to my knowledge.

I was inspired to come here when I read about the yorkshire puddings(in my country — «popovers») filled with cheese which are handed out for free as a starter. I sort of ignored the fact that the restaurant was in Marriot Hotel and was completely convinced when I saw an offer on their website for 25% off. The place definitely has the feel of a hotel restaurant and is full of(American) tourists which I guess is to be expected. Not that I have anything against Americans — I am one, but its just worth mentioning. The restaurant was also not even half full on a Saturday night which always bugs me. Also, the air con was pitiful on a very hot day which is not acceptable at these prices. I thought the waitstaff(except for the surly hostess) were pretty good. They tried. And lord knows its not easy fussing around with hot plates in those uniforms when the air con isnt working. Foodwise, the free yorkshire puddings were good but not life-changing. They were tepid instead of out-of-the-oven fresh and I think that makes a difference. For starters, I ordered the crab cake and my man friend ordered the soup of the day. Crab cake was fresh and pan-fried, not breaded and deep fried. Tasted great and seemed to be of good quality, so I forgave the miniscule portion at £12 for one. Mains — I had the roasted spatchcock chicken and my man had a steak. We had the triple cooked chips and the peas/beans with bacon bits as sides. All nice and fine but nothing really standout. I think the steak probably trumped the chicken, but the chips were pretty standard. I would say that the chicken was a nice portion. For dessert we were a bit mental and ordered both the sticky toffee pudding and the apple crumble. We ended up clearing the sticky toffee completely and hardly touching the crumbled. It was too much. The sticky toffee was good but I’ve had better — I would say it was a tad too sweet. Prices are pretty steep — even with the 25% off and cokes instead of cocktails, we paid c £40 per head. I’m not sure quite why it didnt feel worth it — would chalk it up to the atmostphere. I wouldn’t go back though even with another offer… so many better places to go in London.

what a let down. I went on a friday night with my wife and another couple to this new steakhouse in the GLC building on the river. i was looking forward to it and had high hopes but was sorely let down. the cocktails were great, the quality of the steak is excellent but everything else was rubbish. we skipped starters but each had a massive steak with plenty of sides, bone marrow, chips and lettuce and peas /bacon. the meat was the star but the peas were over cooked, the lettuce was just a round lettuce for £4 and the bone marrow as umptious but slightly under cooked. the deserts was were the food was let down the most. i had a lemon meringue pie, a friend had a fondant and my wife had the cheese. 5 minutes after the desserts were ordered the waiter came back to the table and said there would be a 20 minute wait on the fondant because of cooking time, but when it arrived it was over cooked and just chocolate cake. the lemon tart was so tart and strong that you had to have a big old bite of the meringue just to let the lemon down it was served with crème anglaise which was thin, uninteresting and just didn’t work with the tart. the cheese was good but hope fully no where can get that wrong. the service was rubbish, we sat there with empty glasses for an age. i’m not one that mind pouring his own wine but when a place is trying to be hi end fine dining i would expect that kind of service. we sat wit an empty bottle for ages and finally asked a random passing waiter for another bottle. we sat with that one empty but couldn’t be bothered to interrupt the waiter of another one. the bill was just over £300 for the four of us. which would have ben fine if every element was right but it wasn’t. it felt like a hotel trying to replicate a fine restaurant but not understanding how to do it.

During a recent trip to London, my lovely bride and I had the opportunity to eat a Gillray’s. We went the first time because it was convenient. We went the 2nd and 3rd time because everything about the place was great. Menu, services, drinks, view, all brilliant.
