Treated myself to a Friday lunch from here today, and very glad I did. Okay, so there was a 10 –15 minute queue out of the door, but that itself speaks for the quality and value of this place, no? For around the £5 mark, you can have a roast dinner, either on it’s own, or as a sandwich or salad. First you choose from beef(medium and tender), pork(complete with crackling), lamb(pink, as it should be!), chicken or turkey. If you’ve having a sandwich, you get the standard choice of breads(white, wholemain, multigrain). Then you choose your ‘trimmings’, and there really is a full compliment — stuffing, yorkshire pudding, carrots, peas and either mashed or roast potatoes. For a little extra you can also have sausages and bacon added. They also have all the sauces you could wish for — horseradish, mint, bread sauce, gravy. The portion isn’t as much as you’d have for dinner, but may still be slightly too much for regular lunch, so save it for a treat and you won’t feel too much of a glutton. Apparently they do a great breakfast too, but I am yet to try that…

I used to eat here every Friday as a treat when i worked nearby last year. Quite simply the best British lunch available– a full roast in a bap for £5!!! And I mean a full roast… Roast potatoes, stuffing, peas, carrots and a choice of freshly carved chicken, pork, beef or lamb with gravy poured on top! The lamb is always pink and you can add mint sauce and gravy– the beef is decent but not spectacular… the chicken and pork are good options– the last coming with crackling as well. It sometimes feels a bit like a heart-attack lunch, especially if you’ve been sat on your backside all day in an office but it’s a very tasty heart-attack– right up there with the best breakfasts(which they also serve). It pays to get here as soon after 12 noon as possible as the queue grows to ridiculous lengths thereafter. It’s also quite amusing to see the mainly southern European servers(especially new recruits) being utterly bemused by what they’re serving and the requests of the diners–(stuffing, bread sauce, mint sauce and gravy all being a bit alien to your average mediterranean!) A really great London takeaway experience this one– highly recommended just for being British!

if you are anything like me and you like your roast dinners then this is the place for you for a simple lunch. They take roast dinner in a box to the next level. you get a full roast dinner with meat freshly cut from the bone and all the trimmings. The only problem i have is getting me crackling, which i feel really makes the roast, most the time it is pot luck if they have any left as it goes soo quick I have found lately after eating it 2 – 3 times a week for about 4 months, that i have gone off it a little as the flavours are a little bland. more than likely all the veg is just frozen veg.
