I like to come in here and browse, not because I’m good enough at French to read more than one book in about five years but because the shop assistants are cunning enough to pretend they think you are French as you mouth your way through some book intended for five year olds or bad celeb magazine. They always greet you with«Bonjour!» and keep up the pretence for as long as you like, making you feel very cosmopolitan without having to stray too far from the Victoria and Albert museum. You can also pick up French carnets with the mad squares instead of lines, and all sorts of handy grammar books if you’re learning French.

If you’re French and looking for French books in London this is clearly the place for you. they ahve books on everything-history, philosophy, art as well as fiction books. I went in looking for French books for my nieces who have a far better grasp on the language than i ever did and they are 18 years my junior! The lady in the shop was very helpful, she showed me all of the books that might suit them and they were all at very reasonable prices. The children’s books were really beautiful as well.
