This Carribean little gem has been gathering even more attention in the recent months. You can now see people queuing just to get a bite here. I believe they take reservations so you might want to check that out and not be left waiting half an hour for a table like me.

Try the curried chicken — always really tasty and very reasonable as I buy the dish on my way home from work, one portion(with out rice) is 3.50 and you get lots in the portion. Curry mutton on the bone was ok. Not the best.

There aren’t many carribean restaraunts in East London, so Essence of the Carribean is quite handy. Good points: nice patties(even though you can guarantee they will always run out of the meat ones by early afternoon). The buffet is quite varied(but be warned — it’s not unlimited and if you waste food they will charge you for it). Bad points: The speed of the service(this is not fast food folks). The prices on the menu.(Carribean food mostly takes along time to prepare — and as such it generally is more costly as a take-away than say, chinese or indian food. Be prepared to pay at least £10 for a meal for one person(with a drink). Finally — for those travelling by car — the East ham car park is about 200m away — free after 6pm.
