Cosy interior, good range of ales, friendly service at the bar and a cool cat taking up space on the bench we sat on all added up to a good afternoon pint experience. Factor in that prices are keener than some of the other pubs close by and you’re on to a winner.

What a great pub! Been there before for a drink after a stroll around the Heath — only to be positively surprised by a bunch of Morris dancers coming to perform in their beer garden! Apparently, it’s their bi-annual custom to visit certain Hampstead pubs every time the clocks change. I also went there a week ago to see the Old Jewish Jokes — a stand-up comedy gig in their cellar. Would definitely recommend it for both of the above :)

The Duke is a true Hampstead locals pub. The crowd, the décor, the beer selection, everything. Many of the pubs in Hampstead have turned into more upscale gastropubs, but the Duke stays true to the English tradition. But bring your cash, as the Duke doesn’t accept solo. The outside seating is lovely in the summertime. The pub also is tucked away from the High Street, so it does not get too crowded and you can always find a place to sit in the sun and to enjoy a pint or glass of wine to unwind.

Best pub in Hampstead by far if you want an authentic boozer. Newly installed SKYTV for the rugby or footie as well.

A good old style pub. Okay for a couple of beers but they do have a big screen TV which I don’t like. But when there isn’t a big game on it is usually off. Cozy. UPDATE2012: The pub has had a bit of refurb. It’s still very comfy inside but outside they have fitted a lovely beer garden in the back. The front tables still remain. Can definitely see the new beer garden being used quite a bit in the summer. New management has saved this local from becoming houses. If in Hampstead, definitely a pub to visit.

Lovely pub in Hampstead, half way up the hill in a road on the right. Ignore the Stella Artois umbrella outside, they may serve the cleaning fluid on tap but the rest of their drinks are interesting and at least the ones I had tasted very good. Aside from a good choice of ales they have brands of lager, white beer and stout on regular taps that I have never seen before. In fact, they have so many good drinks that for once I am going to resist taking a star away for them serving the ghastly Belgian swill. The cricket memorabilia around the walls is very interesting. Apparently this is a cricket pub, well they even have their own team. There is 1 television for sports but it’s not intrusive, so you can easily ignore it if it’s not your thing. Very friendly landlord too, who is clearly doing a good job. I almost feel bad for saying this because it’s not how I rate venues and is not why I gave this place so many stars, but I simply wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t give the pub an honourable mention for having the most attractive barmaids that I have seen.

Small pub serving very good beers, no music, no food, but excellent place to watch rugby in particular and sport in general.
