This is a small eatery in east London and surrounded by several other Indian restaurants. Can classify as hole in the wall. The restaurant was empty when I walked in for lunch and had an «unclean stench» to it. Owner just blankly stared at me. Overall not very inviting. I ordered the ghee roast masala dosa n the buttermilk. Buttermilk was very oily and although dosa was good, the sambhar had too much ginger. Highly passable.

Huge dosa with a healthy amount of filling. Ended up getting the chicken dosa which was a medium spicy and really yummy. Big enough that you don’t really need to order any other sides. Great value for price.

Unpretentious small restaurant in Hanbury Street worthy of recognition for serving genuine dosa and curries of a complexity and quality that is hard to find in other places in this area. Prices are very reasonable and service is extremely friendly. No touts outside the door, they rely solely on people in the know. Décor is basic, but food commendable.

Tiny but super cheap and incredibly tasty. Everyone I’ve taken here loved it. Get their Paneer dosa — spicy just enough, really filling, great.

My boyfriend and I were looking for some potato bread(Aloo Paratha) and I came across this place. Since it is close to where I live, we decided to give it a try. If you have walked on Brick Lane, you will inevitably be bombarded with people trying to «invite» you to their restaurants right on Brick Lane. And you know those restaurants are never good. So I tend to stay away from those joints. So the fact that Dosa World is right off Brick Lane gives it more credibility. It is a very small restaurant that can seat about 20 people at full capacity. Needless to say there is nobody standing outside to try to get you in, in fact, you may easily miss it if you are not looking for it. They offer a good range of meat, seafood, vegetarian and, of course, the name sake Dosa. As my boyfriend and I are just looking for something quick for a Monday night, we ordered some good old spinach dal and paneer masala. We also ordered a portion of potato bread, after all, we came here for that. I am no connoisseur of Indian food, but the spinach dal was amazing. Very creamy and flavorful. The potato bread, however, was disappointing. I couldn’t taste much flavor but mouth-burning spiciness. Good thing, we have mango lassi to cool down the mouth. BTW, lassi here is also delicious. There was an Indian family of four sitting next to us and they all ordered Dosa and strongly recommended it. I am definitely coming back to sample the Dosa next time.

I adore this little indian joint just off Brick Lane. It’s a million times better than most of the other crap curry places on the main strip, and it has a small twist, specialising particularly in South Indian cuisine.(small disclaimer: i wouldnt consider myself an expert on indian food, but i know what i like). Make sure to try the traditional dosa, and I’d also recommend the chicken or prawn or vegetable malabar and the garlic paratha(instead of naan). It’s BYOB which is probably my favourite part, making it very reasonably priced as well. This place is tiny but somehow you can always make a reservation. We’ve done so a number of times on a Saturday night with 8 – 10 people. FYI it also closes from 3−5pm each day to give the kitchen a break. Oh, they also deliver!

People around the world know Indian food as Butter chicken, Tandoori chicken, Naan or similar. Everyone just need to know that these are all food from North India & this is not full India. I love South Indian food & it is really rare that we can find good South Indian restaurants in Europe & places which make proper fresh dosa’s or places which serve proper South Indian cooking with lot of coconut. I would absolutely recommend this place as it has great & authentic South Indian food. I’ve been to this place few times & I’ve never seen quality deteriorate in any which ways which is absolutely wonderful. Suggest you try this & comment what you feel :)

Really enjoy this little restaurant and have been back several times after I was sent there on a recommendation from a local/regular. Great South Indian food, with plenty of excellent vegetarian options too and delicious, crispy dosas. The food tastes healthy and not fatty, just great flavours. Very friendly, helpful staff. It’s small and a tucked away off Brick Lane, but has been quiet enough for good conversations each time I went. All my guests also enjoyed, I will be back! The pricing is also excellent, good value for London.

Good option for an ‘off Brick Lane’ Indian. Literally just off brick Lane on Hanbury St but thankfully free of those guys trying to pull you in off the street. Dosas are the speciality, as in the title. We ordered a Masala dosa and a veg thali. The dosa was pretty decent but didn’t wow but then there’s a limit to how exciting a dosa can be I think, as was the thali which was OK but would have liked something a bit more substantial with some of the little dishes. The café is tiny but well formed, great for one, two to four but not a group due to the small space. Service was good. Prices OK.

On a side st off of brick lane which is relaxing after getting hassled by the door guys on the main st. Was only two other customers but took twenty minutes to get out lamb curry(dont remember which one, but started with«k”$. Also got aloo paratha. The taste was great although slightly over salted. The paratha was also tasty with ample potato but was cut into small pieces and not really usable in the usual way for nan/paratha. Was on the toilet next morning but maybe coincidence. My first curry in the UK. I would rate it as decent by SF bay area standards.

I don’t know much about dosas, other than I really like them. My cousin introduced me to a great local haunt when I was in KL this summer and I came back to London on a quest to find somewhere in London to get my fix. Of course first check point is here. Dosa World came up high on the list as it’s close by and had promising reviews despite only 3.5 rating. Then someone must have read my mind when I received a Dosa World menu through my letter box. I took it as fate to check it out. Decided to pop by after a wander through Columbia Road flower market. We were ravenous when we arrived. We ordered a selection of starters — idly, potato bonda and vada — and we all ordered masala dosas and shared poori with black chickpeas. We hadn’t seen our friends for awhile so we had quite a bit to catch up on, however when our starters arrived we went incredibly quiet. The bonda were were my favourite, crisp on the outside and incredibly light and fluffy on the inside. Then it was dosa time! They were so big they didn’t fit entirely on the plate! The dosa was thin and crispy, with soft fluffy potato folded inside. The dhal was delicious and I loved the chutneys served with them. The poori and black chickpeas were a delight, great recommendation from our waiter. We didn’t leave a single morsel and left feeling a little more than content. Will definitely be returning!

We had dinner at Dosa World a couple of times and both times it was great. The second time we had the waiter suggest items for us and we had some South Indian specialties that I hadn’t tried before but they were all great. Very friendly staff.

Whenever I‘m in Bricklane I like to visit Dosa world. The Restaurant looks like a room in a house with few chairs and tables . The food is great –authentic and clean with not as oily as other Indian Restaurant. Yesterday I’ve ordered Take Away for the first time and . Food arrived very quickly, hot and really really good . Highly Recommended

Hidden gem just off the beaten Brick Lane path. My cousin had a vegetarian option and I ordered some vindalu-type deal with meat(chicken or lamb, I forget). Great value but I could definitely see the place getting cramped if more than ~15−20 people were to come in. As the previous review says, 2 people only ran about 20 – 25 pounds. Friendly staff too.

Why isn’t Dosa World getting any love on Unilocal?Well one possible answer if that Dosa world is not the typical Indian food you find in the Bricklane area, it is from the south(y’all). I love introducing people to the joys of southern Indian food, and laughing when they can’t find the chicken tikka. The food is cheap, and tasty. I have never paid more than 25 quid for 2 people. The portions are reasonable, and dishes are best for sharing. You can always get a seat. Don’t be scared that it is often empty or nearly so. Check out the online menu a just go! Here are the dishes I recommend: — Rasam soup: If you don’t understand why tamarind is unique, here is your introduction. — Masala Dosa: The crispy pancake and the delicious potato filling are coupled with a set of sauces. I prefer the green sauce, but try them all — Chilli Chicken: This is the dish that used to be 5 star and now is «chinese take-away». My crusade in life is to restore this dish to its former glory. — Meat Malabar: The lamb is tender and the sauce is well balanced. — Sambar, Bhindi Curry, Brinjal Marsala: All these veggie dishes are perfect accompaniments to your meat entrée. The Brinjal Masala has a great sweet taste and paste-like texture of slow cooked aubergine. — Get some coconut rice and a order or pooris. — For dessert order the carrot halva, it is a carrot, honey, and nut treat served hottttttt Dosa world is a decent representation of South Indian food(from Kerala), but sadly have made a few changes to the ingredients that have dropped them from a 4 to a 3 in my book.(However, I have chatted with the waiters about these changes and hopefully the quality will be restored) Report filed, update to follow, case of the Dosa World remains open.
