There’s a student discount! Be sure to use it. Best value lunch in the bloomsbury area hands down. For four pounds, I was able to get bacon club sandwich, crisps, and a canned soda. Water is also available. Check out my photo for the bacon club sandwich! The bread is the best part of the sandwich. They use generous slices of fresh baguettes. All of the ingredients are very fresh and it’s reflected in the taste. The bacon was thick and chewy and the sandwich was awesome overall. Only complaint is that there wasn’t very much chicken/bacon but for the price and the value, it’s what you would expect.

Hidden behind an unassuming façade(and by ‘unassuming’ I mean ‘would generally avoid’) this was honestly one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. The bread was perfect, it was heated up perfectly and just: awesome. I will definitely be headed back here for lunchtime. A £4.40 meal deal for this giant of a sandwich is pretty great and now I just want to try out everything else on their menu.

Great for the poor starving student. 4 pounds gets you a drink, bag of crisps, and a decent hot sandwich. Heaps of sandwiches to choose from.

The people who work here are so friendly and they smile at you so much it almost becomes uncomfortable. Student discount is great; I got a sandwich, crisps, and a coffee for only £4! Probably the best lunch deal I’ve found so far in London. The sandwiches are delicious and I love the ciabatta bread. Definitely coming back to try the other ones!

Had an amazing chicken breast sandwich on ciabatta bread. Came with potato chips and a soda for £5.50(completely forgot to use the student discount). What’s even better is that they close at 4am on weeknights!

Where else can you get chips, a drink, and a rather filling sandwich(a GOOD, rather filling sandwich) for 4 pounds?! It’s definitely not a sit-in, but when you’re a student looking for quick grub, go here. There’s a 10% student discount and a special meal deal for their primary sandwich menu — meaning I can get my fix of parma ham and ciabatta in that 4 pound meal deal. The sandwiches are huge AND delicious — and the store is meant to be practical, not artisanal!

Great option for a quality snack at Kingsway St. Cheap, good ingredients and worth going. It is really hard to beat Don Quixote in terms of size, price and free chips and soda.

I love the Unilocal summary emails, and this morning’s one detailed where we, the masses, could eat for under a fiver — and Don Quixote caught my eye. Not one to procrastinate, I headed there this very lunchtime, and I’m so very glad that I did. The rumours are true — a massive sandwich, water/canned drink and a packet of crisps for the meagre sum of £4.60. Not only that, but it’s in the middle of London and it’s still quiet! Unbelievable. I had a bacon and ham club, which was huge and stuffed with filling — so not only it is cheap, but you get way more food than you would in other more expensive places. The guys behind the counter were nice and service was quick, then I sat at one of the tables and read the paper in the peace and quiet — which is not something that there is a whole lot of on Kingsway. A wonderful place. No complaints at all!

A giant, giant sandwich for less than £4(that comes with crisps and soda) and it’s open 24 hours a day(yes, you heard me right there). It’s hard not to fall in love with this spot. Don Quixote cares about one thing only — sandwiches. The ambiance in this run down little spot is, we’ll say, lacking. It’s small, a few tables in the back and a large sandwich counter up front. They’re not trying to impress you here, they’re just trying to feed you. And feed you they will! I got a haloumi sandwich with crisps and it was just what I wanted. Warm, great monster on great ciabatta bread. They actually have a ton of breads just hanging out in the case that you can chose from. And they all look epic. The staff here is gruff and want you in and out. No warmth whatsoever, but leave the warmth to the hot sandwiches. They’ll give you all the love you need.

The hardest thing about pursuing my graduate degree in London was dealing with finding food, and more importantly, finding food at strange times of the day. Thank goodness I found Don Quixote quite early in my studies, might not have survived without it! Fantastic sandwiches, particular favourite was the Bacon Chicken Club, with water or soda and crisps for under a fiver with a student ID. Sounds pretty good to me. What puts them over the top, and the frequency for my visits, was not just the friendly and quick service, but the 24 hour operating schedule. Spending a really long time at the library? Wandering around Covent Garden or High Holborn at an unusual hour and really need some food to help get you home? Go to Don Quixote. They have some outside seating as well as a few seats inside, but this is definitely a place where you grab your sandwich and go. Avoid Pret and Subway, this is way better!

Pretty good for a cheap sandwich shop! The bread is better quality than you’d get at a Subway, and you get a lot more for your money than at some fancy café or even a Pret. Apparently, they’re open 24 hours as well.

To borrow the words of Joe Biden, this place is a Big F*@king Deal. For less than four pounds with a student discount(or a little bit more without), you can get a well-sized, pressed sandwich on tasty ciabatta bread. But, wait, there’s more! Free can of soda and normal-sized bag of crisps with any sandwich. Service is efficient and friendly.

In my attempt to find some budget eateries for my students near our hotel, I ran across reviews for this place. I will say that from the outside, it isn’t exactly impressive and at first glance you may think it just another kebab shop… but its not! When I got there, there was a bit of a line, lots of people in suits grabbing their lunches to go. There were two tables outside, but it was a bit windy outside, so I tried to scope out the seating situation inside, although it was a bit difficult because the entrance is very narrow. However, there are about 4 tables along one wall and then there is a table along the other wall with stools for seating as well. The nice thing about the place is that you can see the breads and fillings in the window if the menu boards don’t help. There is a specials board, club sandwiches board, and vegetarian sandwiches board. OR you can make your own sandwich. I did have trouble choosing a sandwich because most of them sounded really good. However I ended up choosing the Minty Lamb… yeah, Minty Lamb. To be honest, it wasn’t the first sandwich I was thinking about, but when the guy asked me for my order, under the pressure, that is what came out of my mouth. The Minty Lamb comes on ciabatta bread with cheese. When you order a sandwich from the specials board, you get crisps and a drink for free, however if you choose to eat in, you get charged 30p, but if you’re a student, you get 10% off! The sandwich was toasted wonderfully and the minty lamb was really good. I didn’t think the cheese was actually going to taste good with the lamb, but it was nice. Overall, I would recommend it to my students and I would go back to try some of the other sandwiches.

The sandwiches here are better than other places. They use tastier bread, which they also toast. Students get a 10% discount, along with a free bag of chips and canned drink. The first time I came here, I got a bottle of orange juice, and the guy told me it would cost extra. After I finished eating and went to pay, he forgot to charge me extra for the orange juice. So, I basically got a little extra discount, several pence saved! My friend recommended this place to me, and he says they stay open pretty late. I asked for times, but my friend wouldn’t give me a straight answer, he just kept saying«pretty late.» Given that that friend goes to bed before midnight, I have no idea how late this sandwich place is open till. Lastly, this place is pretty small is quite easy to miss.

A-maze-zing! Seriously guuud sarnies here and the selection if fabulous. Just the breads on display had me dribbling… hot hungry dribbling! So I came here after reading Chris R’s ROTD and set it in my head that I had to eat here. I’m glad I did. Don’t expect much from the décor but the food is fresh and tasty. £3.90 for a sandwich as big as my face, I could only eat half but Leon C helped me finish it. This is the place where Food-Man would have his not so secret hide-out.

Don Quixote is for lovers. Lovers of cheap, greasy yet delightful take-away sandwiches and melts, that is. Also, Don Quixote is for vegetarian lovers. There’s a whole separate menu of vegetarian sandwiches and melts! But don’t fret, meat-eating lovers. There are two whole menu boards for you. £3.40 got me a grilled aubergine melt bigger than my face and a packet of crisps. Bargainous! Calorific!

This might be the only place in London area that makes Avocado sandwiches! We searched for days for a place that knew what an avocado was, and found it at Don Quixote, but never again in our week stay. This is a definite must for Vegetarian Americans who might be feeling little home sick for avocado or anyone who is looking for an affordable meal! It is Great place for toasted or cold sandwiches. They have a variety of cheeses and breads to customize to your liking. They have a set vegetarian menu, which was nice, not your typical cheese and bread vegetarian option. After a few days of English breakfast and Chips(French Fries) with every meal… I was glad to find a simple sandwhich place that made something similar to what we’d find here in the states. It may have been the cheapest meal we had all week and was definitely our favorite. We tried the egg mayo sandwich and an avocado club, 2 bags of chips(real chips, like tortilla or potato chips) and 2 drink and spent less than 7 pounds! Both were delicious but the avocado club was possibly the best sandwich I’ve ever had. It was toasted with cheese avocado and cucumber on a tasty bread that I wont even try to name(Similar to Chiabata). It’s a sit in place and makes a sandwich lunch feel more like a dinner plate. I was a big fan! We would have eaten there daily if they weren’t so far and hadn’t run out of avocados.

Forget Pret, forget Eat, forget even Subway. Don Quixote is the best sandwich/lunch place in the Holborn area. For a meager £3.70, I got a really tasty sandwich, crisps and soda. And this wasn’t some random ‘Only on Tuesdays from 3−4pm’ type scenario. This was right in the smack middle of the lunch hour. Having to get back and do work, I took mine to go. They give you the perfect sized back. Fits your sandwich, crisps and soda nicely without them banging around or smashing together. How was the food? Exceptional! Just the way I wanted it, warm, tasty, delicious, mmmmm. I will be going back here A LOT. It’s the little places like this that are the best and make finding them a pure joy. Especially when the staff is friendly and give you good service like they do here.
