A slice of heaven for breakfast on the Strand in London’s Temple area, City of Winchester. I have come to really love English Breakfast here in London, and at the Crown Café Bar even more so. Made to order, fresh, delicious and the service just brilliant. This small café on the strand, has excellent service and the staff is friendly as can be. For a great breakfast, hot lunch or just a spot of tea, or in my case today Hot Chocolate. Check them out. Right next to Somerset House.

I’m a fan! you know what people of London, why not surprise yourself and instead of going to the FXXXXing pret next door… come here! I had a coronation chicken salad and it was lovely!

Basically the *only* place open early on the Strand if you happen to be jet lagged, up and hungry. Cook has refined an ideal mixture of early-am politeness(not *too* cheery) and machine-precision efficiency. Great value for both money and time.

This is a basic sandwich place, but almost everything(except the vivid, almost radioactive, escalopes) are just that much slightly better than good. Definitely one of the places to go if you’re on the Strand and want a decent good meal.

Stopped in here on a rainy Sunday morning because Café Nero and Pret a Manger were packed. They have a nice full English breakfast that was reasonable. Not great, but not bad. I liked the simplicity. Now although I did not go downstairs to the bathroom, everyone that did said it was an experience as there were no working lights so everything was in the dark. Hopefully they get that fixed soon.

Visited Crown today for the first time for lunch during a supplier meeting. The ingredients used in the sandwiches are very good quality. Excellent range of specials. I had tuna melt. Generously filled with Tuna, Mozzerella and Sun Blushed Tomato for £4.10 Friendly, efficient service. Would definitely go back.

The spaghetti here is great. They also sell Snapple drinks, which is also great. Another time I got a tuna sandwich, because the lady asked if I wanted something other than spaghetti that day. The sandwich was no good. Will go back to eating their spaghetti. Spaghetti bolognese + Snapple drink = £6.40 Lastly, apparently none of the workers are related. They are not a family, just co-workers.

Ran in here with a friend of mine yesterday, hungry and in a bid to escape the rain. Having already walked out of 3 places for lack of choice and decent prices, we weren’t hoping for too much. Now, neither of us spend all too much time in central London cafes, so we still felt it to be quite expensive compared to what we’re used to in Kingston, it definitely appeared better than the other options we looked at in the area. As has been mentioned, the staff here are quite friendly, which is a big plus for me when it comes to places to eat. The food options were pretty nice for a café, with the fillings for their sandwiches/etc on show in an extremely tempting display that made me want to just lay it all out in a paddling pool and pretty much just dive into it. They also serve some hot food and alternatives, such as lasagna, pasta and salad(and more). Not to mention they do specials of the day so those without much of a decision making capability can just keep it fresh and varied! The sandwich itself was very nice. Unsure if I was going to be eating more later, I decided to keep it light and just have a chicken club sandwich. And by light, I meant, inadvertently picking something that somehow left me full for over 12 hours, even though I hadn’t *eaten* anything in 12 hours already. I’ll need to spend some more time looking around cafes in the area before I make a final judgment upon the prices, and try it a few more times to see what their other food is like, but this is a potential 4 star in the making for once I’m working in The Strand! Thank you, Crown Café!

A perfectly solid, reliable little café on the Strand. Sandwiches, toasties, hot drinks, reheated lasagne, jacket potatos. Not going to blow your socks off, but if you want to nip into somewhere warm and eat a quick hot lunch for £3-£4, this will do nicely. Scuffed laminated menus, amusingly shouty lunchtime service(‘NEXTPLEASE!’), always a respectably long queue of workers and students. The salad garnish is always just the wrong side of limp, and mostly made of cress. But the ever so slight crappiness is part of the appeal. It’s that kind of place and I like it. It could be anywhere, does not ooze London in the slightest, and sometimes that is A-ok.

Pretty solid lunch choice on the Strand, and a nice change of pace from the Prets that seem to have conquered the better part of London. They make tasty hot panini sandwiches and the people who work in here are friendly and give you a real personalized service that you can’t get at a chain. A good bet in the area!

The Crown Café is one of the best sandwich shops on the Strand. If you take a late lunch, you might miss out on having your favourite sandwich. The best sandwich is the chicken escolpe, which is breaded chicken on bread with red and green peppers. It is my favourite sandwich and I have found that if I wait and arrive at the shop after 1:30 then all the sandwiches are gone. I have had a few other sandwiches and they were equally as good, but I am a creature of habit. So when I go to Crown I want the usually. What I love about this shop, besides the sandwiches is that it’s a small Mom and Pop shop. The staff is super friendly and I’ve been in so often they know what I want. A few times they have set a sandwich aside for me and I’ve been able to walk out with the last chicken escolpe. I love this place!
