CS is a sister branch of Store Street Espresso and so you can expect it to be quality. I’ll state it clearly now: the only reason this is 4 stars rather than 5 is because of their annoying wifi policy and removal of powerpoints. Come on guys… I get it, but also… you know. I’ve always felt it’s just assuming the worst of its customers(but then again, maybe customers are shit. Especially Unilocalers, ofc). CS is pretty dinky — a handful of small tables at the back, counter seating, and a couple of outdoor seats. It’s perfect at the weekends, and it’s been particularly nice as it’s got colder with steamy windows and everything — I’ve never been sure whether to feel comforted or a little grossed out by that. Anyway, some notes: — matcha cookies. — great standard of coffee — not the top top end but it doesn’t have to be. Can’t really go wrong with their Square Mile blend. — really good breakfast menu with lots of tasty sounding options(pancakes, mushrooms…). Their chorizo with beans and cornbread is particularly tasty and perfect for a winter’s saturday. Prices are right where you’d expect. Generally I prefer the feel of this place in comparison to SSE, it’s a bit cosier, a bit more chilled out and I’ve found the staff to be a bit friendlier. All-in-all, it’s a great spot and, well, those matcha cookies will keep me coming back.

A little piece of East in Bloomsbury. The coffee itself is excellent. I drink soy and they serve a banging soya flat white, with great attention to detail. The store itself is minimalist and airy — pale wooden benches, light white walls, and exposed metal. Not meant for long lounging, but perfect for a lunch or coffee date. They have plug sockets under the bench and Wifi for working too. The food is also amazing — they recently changed their menu to a brunch style between 11−3pm, on weekdays too! If you’ve ever wanted eggs in the middle of the working day, come here. The sabich — soft aubergine, boiled egg, mango amba and delicious pickled onions stuffed into a white pita — is my go-to healthy comfort food lunch. They also do smoked salmon, pancakes and other brunch treats. For something lighter for lunch, they also offer a range of rolls, sandwiches, salads and bakery items. I love the matcha cookie(though it varies in softness) and the richly moist tiramisu-style cake too. A heavenly addition to the Bloomsbury lunch scene(along with equally good Fork, down the road).

After only discovering Store St Espresso in January I was delighted to find their 2nd store near Kings Cross which is a less than 5 minute walk from my work. Flat white is the coffee of my choice and after visiting over 20 coffee shops in London I had the feeling that I have already have sampled the best London has to offer but boy was I mistaken. The quality of my coffee blew me away and has done every time I have returned and it will keep me coming back for more and also to store street espresso when I can make it over to that part of town. The store serves a good range of breakfast and brunch items that I would like to try and they provide a good range of baked goods. I tried the Guinness chocolate cake and it was great and I look forward to trying their brownies. £2.60 for a flat white but with a loyalty card for a free coffee after 8 drinks that is a very good deal for central London. Note they use square mile coffee with guest coffee at the weekend. If you are a serious coffee drinker please visit and thank me later.

It’s small, and cozy and that’s the way — unhunh, unhunh — I like it(unhunh, unhunh). An 8oz. americano, please. 2 pounds. Done. Totally worth it. (ok, ok, sometimes a flat white) The staff here is ridiculously nice and open and helpful and warm and basically exceedingly lovely to deal with before I’ve had my first coffee of the day. I was gonna give the coffee just 4 stars, but the staff bumped it up to a fiver. *edited to add* I like their food a tonne, too, now that I’ve been here for brunch. Perfectly poached eggs, avocado chili toasts with flecks of chive and a splash of lemon, and bircher muesli. Yep. Unilocal note: DON’T FORGETTOLAUNCHINTOSOMEFOODS, TOO! I always just get liquid sustenance, but everyone who I’ve been with has given thumbs up to their solid offerings as well. Double Unilocal note: they are excellent with iced options — probably the only iced flat white I have seen listed in London, ever!

I was making a trip to Gay’s The Word round the corner and stumbled upon this coffee shop, which was brilliantly serendipitous. I haven’t drunk milk in probably about 5 years as it makes me violently ill, and I can’t stand the taste, so I tend to drink soy milk. It’s fine in most hot drinks, but a soy iced coffee is generally vile. However I was so hot, and so in need of caffeine that I decided to risk it and order one. One sip in I broke off to croak joyfully at the barista«This… is… amazing» and it was. It was creamy, sweet, with an amazing coffee punch. It was what I’d always dreamt an iced coffee could be. Alongside this I picked up a pulled pork sandwich, which was fantastic, and a carrot cake which wasn’t great, but I didn’t realise that until I sat down in a nearby park to scarf it down. Unfortunately the hot weather had spoiled the butter in the frosting and it smelt like blue cheese and tasted like barf. Hence knocking off a star. If you are nearby I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out. It’s a joy to behold.

Very stylish place — I don’t know much about the place but it give a vibe of Workshop like place. It serves square mile coffee and also serves gelupo ice cream. I had just cappuccino and it was okay — for me, the coffee is too acidic and not toasty enough to be mixed with milk but maybe it is their taste… The place felt a bit soulless but it was really early morning so it may not be fair to judge just based on one early visit. Try and see it yourself?!

From the team that brought you the rather lovely Store Street Espresso comes Continental Stores. Retaining the original store front is a lovely touch, although you do double take before walking in to make sure this is a coffee shop rather than a convenience store. Once inside, you immediately feel relaxed. Light pours in through big windows that look onto the street and the clean white devour adds to the positive atmosphere. This is definitely somewhere you can come to linger for a while. Coffee comes in espresso or V60 forms. I opted for the later and was pleased with a fresh and fruity brew. The espresso based drinks which my neighbours drank looked equally well made. The cakes on display were tempting but I opted for soup — a rich roasted pepper and tomato affair. Lovely stuff. Just down the road from King’s Cross, this coffee shop is a welcome refuge from the bustle outside and with free wifi coming it is sure to be popular. Get down here before it gets too busy!

Good coffee near King’s Cross or Euston? One new option to consider is Continental Stores. Tasty coffee, friendly an relaxed atmosphere. Continental Stores is a beautiful little coffee shop in Bloomsbury. The interior is light with white walls, high ceilings and modern art paintings all around. They do a decent cup of coffee, and when I was there, I also tried a chocolate, cherry and beetroot muffin. It was very moist and a great combination of flavours, making it a sweet, that was not too sweet. While sitting in the back, I thought this arty coffee shop also makes a nice exhibition space. So no matter if you like coffee, art, or both — Continental Stores is the place to go, if you’re in the area.
