Small portions? No, they’re OK. Too pricey? You’re not eating there everyday. I’ll find an excuse to go eat there despite any form or level of resistance. With a famously contemporary setting, you could be looking down on the supereligible Regent Street while dining. I’ve tried seven of the martinis on the list, go figure. Jade Destiny, Hibiscus Royale, Butterfly, Passion Flower, Parsnip Cup and Mary Celeste. All fairly potent, decisively delicious with a kick of creativity. Feel cool, be cool is most definitely the overriding sentiment. There is nothing pedestrian about the food and there is the overwhelming wow factor about everything that is put on the table. The food is cooked to near perfection and very thoughtfully presented. The staff and waiters are friendly and even attractive, for lack of a better descriptive. The Yakiniku Wagyu beef(speaking of easy to remember names), you will make love to, as it is served(literally) on hot rocks. You don’t want to miss this if the carnivore in you is screaming out for perfection. The Lancashire beef Bo Luc Lac is not bad either, but then it’s a different breed of cooking. The lamb is not a bad go, if you feel like lamb, but I would rate the bovine choices as somewhat superior. There is something to be said about the sushi/sashimi selection as well. It’s not(sh)itsu or Wasabi. This is good stuff! Then again, you’re in the City of Westminster, and you’re dining on Regent Street, there’s only so much that can go wrong. :)

On the suggestion of a hotel, a few work colleagues and I headed to Cocoon. The interior is very modern, interesting. There was a good variety of pan asian food, but it was so so. We tried a little sashimi, but not the rolls, which they have a bunch of. The place was pretty full so people seem to like it. Not much to compare it to, except great pan asian food from California.

Several years ago, I would have rated this place a 5-star restaurant, but the service has deteriorated so badly I almost rated it a three. The food, as were the drinks, were excellent, but being so close to the West End, the restaurant has a lot of celebrity parties(which they always inform you of). As a result, it seems their treatment of the common customer has deteriorated immensely. The last time I visited(and I have been dining there since the day they opened), they did not have my reservation(even though I had an email confirming it); the service was *extremely* slow and poor(I had to practically grab the waitress to get her attention), and a couple whom I specifically told the hostess would be joining us was turned away when they said they had no reservation for our party. I might try them once again – if the situation with service remains the same, I’ll drop them from my list.

Fantastic people watching, posh sushi, I’m there. Went mostly w/rolls, all of which were good, no real standouts – shy away from anything w/mayo, or just ask them to skip it, a request they were more than happy to oblige. Drinks are pretty, but more importantly, bestow the drinker w/a marked air of «yes, I am the shit», so of course it’s worth ordering a few of these totally fruity concoctions. Just check your manhood at the door as you pony up to enjoy a «miyabi cocoon” – a doozy with: «Swedish pear cognac liqueur Xante & Santa Teresa Gran Reserve mixed with organic apple juice, pear purée & vanilla syrup, then garnished with fresh pears & cinnamon».

So we were late because of rush hour traffic hour on a Friday evening but 1 person was on time and enjoying champagne. We were all starving when we got there and it was a zoo. The place is really cool. However, the service is super slow. It took forever to get the wine and to find a waiter to get us some appetizers so we could start enjoying the evening. We had the special sashimi, which was really good and fresh. We shared everything. I have to say that this was one of the first times that I’ve had crisp broccoli in London, which was cooked to perfection. I loved the Pad Thai and the black cod. It was great. However, they asked us to move from our table since they have a 2-hour policy. That was ridiculous. We ended the meal at the bar, with some very interestingly dressed people.

This place is a little too self-conscious with its overdone décor and precious suited atmosphere, but my experience sitting at the bar sampling an array of delicious cocktails created by the hands of a fun friendly bartender was fantastic. The cocktail menu is overwhelming, with tempting concoctions involving various fruit purees and interesting infused spirits. The bartender was extremely helpful and even willing to mix up some off-the-menu poisons for our pleasure and according to our preferences. Everything was pretty wonderful. Try the watermelon martini, made with vodka, shochu, and a whole lot of fresh bright pink watermelon, or anything with coconut cream. Prices are a bit silly, but the drinks are top-notch. Even the pretentious ambience may not be a negative for a swank occasion.

Went here for a birthday dinner, and everyone in the party agreed to have the £25 set menu. Surprisingly I was the only one who ordered the sashimi at a Japanese/fusion restaurant. The sashimi was okay, wasn’t fresh for my sushi standards, but passable. The main was prawns that came in a mongolian style sizzling pan. The shrimps were fair sized, smothered with a thick tangy sauce. A bit sweet, but passable. The dessert seemed to be everyone’s favorite, I had the crème brûlée, which of course came last. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, especially with bottles of wine being passed around the table throughout the meal. The interior was kind of funky, with an ultra lounge feel. The oval bar got busier as the evening drew on, with groups of people posing by the counter. I was a bit surprised when walking out after the meal, seeing a bouncer setting up the velvet rope for the entrance. The place didn’t really seem to warrant a bouncer and a velvet rope, but I guess image counts at the Cocoon. I thought this was a restaurant, but apparently it’s trying to pass itself off as a chic ultra lounge as well.

Cocoon. Think of what that name sparks in your mind… And then soak up the fact that this establishment is *perfectly* named. Upon entering, you retreat into a cocoon above Regent street, completely shelled off from the«harsh or unfriendly environment,» that you can literally look down on from above. And let’s be honest, my cocoon would serve banging cocktails and mouth watering sushi, wouldn’t yours?

Great ambiance, drinks, service. Asian fusion, somewhat pricy, but in great location and a enjoyable palce to be. If you wanted to enjoy a drink or two with a friend, this is a good place to go. I also enjoy they great blend of flavours in everything they serve!

Modern style Sushi restaurant. The restaurant’s design was a bit obnoxious, but they certainly backed it up with the food. We ordered a few starters, several sushi rolls as well as the pad thai, and blackened cod. Every dish was excellent. We went at lunch, and it was very quiet, but I am sure this place is hopping in the in evening. Bring your credit card.

Cool and trendy interior design. The drinks were amazing — we had the asian martinis and the bar staff was friendly. I guess it can be considered somewhat pretentious, but sometime’s its fun to dress up. Anyways, it has a great view of the city and I will probably come back again to try the food.

I’m from the States and used to scene-y sushi places… so a Londoner suggested that I go here… I personally loved it. I think if nothing else, it’s a great place to have a bunch of great cocktails with friends(read: lychee martini’s… mmmmm), but the sushi was good as well. Yes, it’s expensive, but you’re paying for ambience. This isn’t a neighborhood place that you’ll go to every week, but for a night out with your friends, it’s great!

Don’t go here expecting somewhere you can wear trainers(see other reviews). Come on — this is London not San Francisco. You have to dress up and if you’re in SoHo what do you expect EXCEPT pretense? Really. The sushi here is surprisingly good for this city, which is one of the worst major world cities for sushi in my opinion. It’s pricey of course but tasty and creative. Drinks are also the same — you’ll pay a lot but they’re certainly above average. They have a Bermuda-style dark and stormy that rivals any other in London(except maybe Mahiki). If you’re looking for a place to get angry at the rich, you might as well stay in Clapham and drink your 2 quid pints there.

Newp. This is the kind of place that honestly makes my skin crawl. It’s super upscale and pretentious. It’s the kind of place with the vibey music that forces you to walk with an extra snooty strut to your step even if you don’t want to. The place with the«Oh, look at me, look how cool I am eating my sushi» patrons that are bleeding their expense accounts dry with contrived abandon, all the while knowing that the price of one cocktail could feed a small family. Yeah, that place. Call me a dive bar, local pub, hole in the wall kinda girl, but places like this are just not my scene and I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

I wasn’t that impressed. After consulting my little guide book courtesy of Grosvenor House(again, Unilocal hadn’t launched yet so what’s a gal to do?) we decided to stop by Cocoon for an after dinner drink. The ambiance definitely brings the funk but is also a wee bit gaudy. The tables in the dining room are see through and stuffed with fake rose petals; there are sea shells hiding in places throughout the restaurant and bright mood lights also set the somewhat clubby tone. We went through to the bar in the back and squeezed into a settee in the lounge. Our waitress was quick with the cocktail menu — which boasted close to 40, fantastically fruity mixed drinks — but getting our drinks was another story. After ordering we waited, waited and well, waited some more. 25 minutes later they came out — and I wish I could say they were worth the wait, but to be honest, they weren’t much more than a few shots of vodka and some cucumber sprigs(albeit, artfully carved). We sipped(chewed?) our drinks and after settling the tab, saddled up. Could be a fun night with a group, and since I didn’t try the food I’m giving Cocoon the benefit of the doubt(also heard their loos are supposed to be quite the showpiece!), but with so many other places to try in London, I’m likely to drop my pennies elsewhere before I head back anytime soon.

Really great place for sushi — in fact, the best I’ve had in London. A friend threw a large birthday dinner here and *everything* the servers brought out — from the tempura to the bites of sushi — was amazing. The atmosphere is kind of funky, the chairs are these pod-like things encircling round tables made out of rose petals encased in plastic — the bulkiness of the chairs really doesn’t work if you’re in a large group like I was… we had 8 people at our table and it was uncomfortably crowded. The service was superb though. I’ve also clubbed here before, but it being one large room, it’s kind of awkward space for clubbing/dancing. In fact, the night I was there, people weren’t really dancing at all… everyone was sitting around the periphery staring at those who dared to occupy the middle of the floor. The crowd that night was also questionable — seemed like lots of old men were there. I definitely prefer this place for dinner; the Pan-Asian cuisine that I sampled was phenomenal. However, I recommend only coming here with a small group — that way you won’t have the same issues with lack of space and roominess that we encountered. For clubbing, it’s seems like the opposite might be true — it comes across as a venue that would be the most fun with a large group of your own — not where you’d head with just a couple friends. But mostly, I’d say come here for an excellent dinner with a small gathering — and then go elsewhere for clubbing afterward.

Cocoon is a fairly pretentious bar and restaurant that caters for a particular type of person(wealthy and snobby). I came here with a friend a couple of weeks ago and whilst the Pan Asian food was good(not the best but certainly good), I didn’t feel at all like I could kick back and relax. I definitely should have considered my outfit more carefully as jeans and pumps didn’t quite cut it in here and I felt very under dressed. The décor is actually quite cool — lots of rounded chairs(very cocoon-like as you would imagine) and if you didn’t feel like you were being assessed by the staff, it could be quite cosy. The cocktails are the best thing about the place — I have never seen such a wide range of quality cocktails and thank goodness not a Sex on the Beach in sight(now perhaps I am being a little snobby)? At £9 a pop though, you certainly pay for the creative mix and exotic ingredients but they are worth a go nevertheless.

This restaurant/bar recently opened its doors and it is amazing inside, offering Pan-Asian food. I went for lunch and had the Crispy Dim Sum platter, it was delicious and had real exotic flavours, definitely something with an Eastern flavour. Though I thought it was amazing, with a real modern touch with great views looking over Regents Street, it probably will not attract the tradition type, it is almost like a spaceship with amazing lighting and wall lights, and on top of that, the portions are far from grand, I myself could have had another platter. It has a sophisticated appeal, but it didn’t have a pretentious feel, it was very relaxed atmosphere, and was very happy with the typical friendly Asian service, I will definitely go again, and I look forward to see how dinner is.

This is one of the most pretentious restaurants I’ve been to in London. I wear trainers quite a lot and while I’m used to the rubber on your feet prejudice at West End clubs, restaurants in my mind shouldn’t even think about raising those sorts of objections at the door. For one, most tables I’ve come across are built so that your feet are concealed beneath, highly offensive gloves I’d consider to be more of a crime. The food is pan Asian and to be honest, can be amazing. I’ve had a few beautifully made bits of sushi here. They also lay claim to being a cocktail bar which I suppose they are in the sense that there are tables just for drinks and you can drink cocktails with your food but really, I think that’s just an image thing. It probably sounds better on the promotional material. The crowd are also a big factor in the image. Lets say if they wear trainers it’s strictly for the gym — work bans them and the wife thinks they’re just for chavs who can’t afford anything else. It is what it is. This is a restaurant for people with money to spend and people to impress to go to before clubbing in Chinawhite, Dolce, Maddox et al. Anyone else, I’d say, keep walking by.

Cocoon seems like quite an exclusive place, hosting quite a particular clientele of well dressed people willing to spend a bob or two on some food and good drink. The interior is interesting, designed as its name suggests, ‘Cocoon’ like, with rounded arm chairs and windows, and circular lights on the ceiling and walls. I haven’t ever dined here, but I have hung out at their bar. At the moment it’s hard for me to envision eating here as come evening, the lights are dimmed and the music is loud, making the ambiance feel more bar like, thus deterring me from wanting to dine and to just make a bee line for their cocktails. Their cocktails are made with a sublime mix of fresh ingredients making such drinks as a Jasmine Fizz(fresh passion fruit pulp and fragrant jasmine, topped with Champagne) or what I had, a PassionFlower(Green Mark and Cariel vanilla vodka shaken with sour passion fruit, fragrant lychee, rose water and guava, with passion fruit pulp). Unfortunately, though excellent, the drinks are expensive at about £9 for a cocktail. Worth the experience but I wouldn’t come here often.
