Just across the road from the Coronation Stone lies the Clattern Bridge. Officially a scheduled ancient monument, the earliest officially acknowledged reference to this bridge is in 1293. It was known as ‘Clatteryng Brugge’ in medieval-speak. Overlooking the Hogsmill river, steps to the side lead down towards the Thames riverside at Kingston. Swans are often seen congregating beneath it. To one side of the Bridge is an impressive Tudor-style building, currently housing a solictor’s office, which adds to its atmospheric value. You may recognise the setting, when you visit, as it was featured in the BBC’s first series of ‘Love Soup’ where the male lead was featured poignantly reflecting on the sadly unsuccessful status of his romantic life.
