Favorite place to get a falafel wrap. Ever since I came to this place, I’ve been going at least once a week because it’s just that good.

Seen the Kebab shop on this website and walked over a mile to try it out, that was Monday, I’ll be going back on Tuesday. Food top notch and staff very friendly. Highly recommended.

I hate to be a downer, but this wasn’t quite what I was looking for. Sure, the falafels were cheap and freshly fried, but they missed the mark. I ordered a pita and got a huge plate full of limp salad, red cabbage, chips(fries), hummus, pita, and finally falafel. This may be great if that’s what you want, but I was trying to get a light lunch and instead got a monster double serving. Also, the falafels weren’t very good. They were patties instead of balls, and they were so dense that I couldn’t cut them with a fork. The flavor was a bit off, too. Hashem’s in Amman is the standard by which I judge falafel, and if they’re a 10, these were about a 3. The big rotating kebab sticks looked decent, the chips were fresh, and everything was pretty cheap, but overall I wasn’t impressed.

Open very late and around the corner from my hotel, I decided to check it out. Ordered the large chicken doner, and contemplated a side of falafel. Thankfully, I only had the doner. It is more than a rational human should try to eat in one sitting… take it from me, I’m American. We know how to over eat. The doner was overflowing with delicious spicy chicken, onions, peppers, and cucumber. Also, I should add that I had this meal sober, and am a picky eater. This place is good.

I was here a few many times after days and nights of battling pints and shot glasses filled with many tasty demons. with some chips or chicken, donners and steamed rice they filled my belly up to help battle the afterset of recovery. Friendly chaps behind the counters and despite the low volume of music from the little boom box behind them would the customers sway to a beat that even a mouse could barely hear. Or it was just my eyes in constant sway and people were actually just standing still. regardless. a favorite spot among the locals and well priced for the moment.

Staying at the Travelodge, search Unilocal for 1x $ nearby found nothing of quality. Checked Tesco and Saintsbury Local, everything looking good needs a microwave. Walked towards Oldstreet Tube station. Spotting $ places open Sunday evening and hoping. At last after 8 places. Found City Best Kebab, clearly drawing the locals. What a healthy plater. Had the Lamb Doner Kabab and Chicken Curry over rice. Both platters served with plenty of fresh salad. I should say, my mind was over jet lag, but my gut was not, so healthy quality food was much appreciated. Lovely meels, well prepared and clean. So 5 stars.

Freshly made falafel pita for under £4? I’m a regular! I LOVETHISFALAFEL. Also, now that I am a bonafide regular — they seem much nicer back there. The guy that always stands near the window always asks me how my night is going, and the dad smiles as he takes my money. Maybe It’s because I tip like a well-heeled American, but i like to think I’ve won them all over. IN reality, it’s probably because I am usually the only semi-sober person in the entire Old Street area, but surely within this kebab place. *cash only. *get the ginger beer.

Either I have the memory of a goldfish or there’s some language barrier going on up in here because I could have sworn that I’d ordered our kebabs for dine in, but somehow that got translated to be for takeaway. But here’s the mystery of the maths, right: Tuesday special of a lamb doner and chicken doner for £3.50 each. That’s a total of £7. We noticed this offer written up on the board after we’d ordered and paid already. I’d handed over a £20 bill and got £12 in change… so a total of £8. So when we seated ourselves at a nearby booth to await our food, the hubbub and annoyance of the fellows behind the counter seemed out of place. Asked in irritated tones, ‘You wanted takeaway, right?’ Er… no… ‘That’s an extra 50p charge for eat-in…’ Grumbles ensued, and our confusion escalated, before finally he relented, saying ‘It’s okay, it’s okay… sit down, we’ll bring you your kebabs.’ Even if there –was– a 50p extra charge, we’d already paid a pound over what their signage indicated… Whatevs. In the end, we were served huge plates with mounds of meat tucked into little half-pittas. Heaps of salad with brilliantly purple crispy cabbage came on the sides, and two tubs of properly spicy harissa and yoghurt sauce were welcome offerings. Whilst I will admit that the meat I had at Crystal Kebab near Kings Cross a few nights prior was superior in tenderness and flavour, the volume of food at an affordable price at City Best was undeniable. Perhaps the best endorsement I can offer on the quality and quantity of food is this: I ate here sober and I’d do it again.

The City Best Kebab is the closest kebab shop to me, so they have been a featured destination for two recent trips. The first time I tried a Huso kebab(chips, hummus, falafel) and the second time a lamb doner. Both were to go, though I got stuck watching the Olympics with the Huso. Thank goodness for that because it was a huge messy affair with all those ingredients packed in a wrap. Packs a punch for 3.20. And that’s the thing. These kebabs are hard to tack away and are pretty messy. I enjoy a messy kebab, but eventually no ingredient stands out. And I want to enjoy a flavorful affair.

Hmmm… after hearing so much about the wonderful kebab places in London I was psyched to give City Best a shot. However, if this is considered a top-notch kebab joint well I’m thoroughly unimpressed. Nowhere near the quality of some of the better kebab shops we have in New York. Disclaimer: everyone knows kebab enjoyment is directly proportional to booze consumption. Admittedly I was totally sober when I visited which may have skewed my evaluation :-)

So here you are… You’re either extremely intoxicated, tired, or hindered to the point where you’ve chosen to make one of those decisions that you know your body is going to hate you for: you’ve decided to get a kebab. Lucky for you, you’re in London, mecca of Kebabs, and even luckier, you’ve chosen to enjoy(and trust me you will) the best kebab available in the city. Best Kebab Takeaway is really no different fro your run of the mill London kebab establishment in terms of initial appearance. There are two, massive skewers with rotating heaps of lamb and chicken, there are wraps, and there are fillers, ranging from spicy peppers and chili sauce to tasty garlic yoghurt sauce, lettuce and red onions. However, Best Kebab really is different. their meats are juicy and«full», so you’ll actually get nice chunks of meat as opposed to oil-soaked bits of something that losely resembles meat. Additionally, Best Kebab is efficient and cheap, with their largest wrap coming in at only £5, a rarity anywhere in the city. Finally, portions are HUGE, with the aforementioned largest wrap likely pushing 500g worth of food. I rarely give out five stars, and when I do, it’s strictly to locations that I wouldn’t mind eating once a day for the rest of my life, but Best Kebab truly does offer the best Kebab in London, and possibly the best Kebab in the world. So if you’ve made that health-shattering decision to polish off a late night with a Kebab, it’s worth the trip from anywhere in London to make carry out that decision at City Best Kebab Takeaway.

I, like many other Londoners, would only ever enter a place called ‘Best Kebab’ when my brain is adequately gin soaked. And, if honest, I’m quite grateful I stumbled upon this place in my drunken state as I return to it now most when sober. Their fallafel is up there with the best Lebanese restaurants, their salads forever fresh, and their meats don’t have that grey look or chewey horse-like texture to them. I must admit, I go there on my commute home from a late night’s work, and it’s always something to look forward to. Plus the guys in there are super friendly — though I’m not sure if that’s just cause they recognize me from going in there so much!

London is a city of indistinguishable late-night kebab takeaway places whose titles all include superlatives of one sort or another and a friendly reminder that you are, in fact, in a metropolitan area – and when you’ve been drinking the differences(rare as they are) among kebab places are overlooked. So here’s my pitch for City Best: I prefer to go sober. The falafel wraps(and make sure to specify that you want a wrap) are the best I’ve found. They make the falafel fresh and scoop it out right in front of you. No five-hour-old falafel balls at City Best. The guys are generous with their portions and keep a friendly atmosphere(comparatively speaking, which is to say they merely holler«YESPLEASE» rather than snarling it) even when the place is buzzing at 2:00 a.m. So hold off on that last overpriced £3 pint of San Miguel and take that money over to City Best for a falafel wrap.

This place is pretty much your regular Kebab and Falafel shop. Yet it’s about as good as you’ll get when it comes to bang for your buck. I live next door and I STILL go there almost once a day. The falafels are made fresh when you order them, only cost £3.20(!!!), and are HUGE. The somosas are also delicious. Seriously, it’s cheaper(and probably tastier) to eat here than it is to do so at home. Anyway, get your ass over here if you live close by, or if you’re hammered and need some food to sober up. Will definitely go back. As I usually do. Almost every day.

Got a falafel in pita here recently and found it satisfactorily nourishing. Staff were frosty, but were delightful with a local kid who came in to get his supper so they’re obviously kind-hearted at the core. The falafel was cooked fresh and tasted good and the houmous was decent; the default serving of salad is too onion-heavy. I need to remember to ask for less when I visit kebab emporiums.

My hot spot for breakfast paninis while in London on holiday. They were friendly, cheap. Great to just order-to-go or to sit down & eat in their little café.

This place does exactly what it says; the best kebabs in the city. I went with a gang of friends and we all couldn’t believe that we have only just discovered this treasure. I got a falafel kebab with all the trimmings for only about £3.50 and was so full afterwards. Its a tiny little takeaway shop but that’s all you really want from a kebab shop. The staff were very efficient despite all the crowds of people wanting in on the kebab action(obviously this place isn’t such a secret find after all). I will definitely be back again, the best kebab London has to offer and such a bargain.
