Circle Line

The Circle line is a London Underground service in a spiralling shape, running from Hammersmith to Edgware Road and then looping once around central London back to Edgware Road. The railway is below ground in the central section and on the loop east of Paddingdon, and, unlike London’s deep-​level tube railways, the railway tunnels are just below the surface and of similar size to those on British main lines. Coloured yellow on the tube map, the 17-​mile (27 km) line serves 36 stations, including most of London’s main line railway termini. Most of the route and all of the stations are shared with the District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. On the Circle line and the Hammersmith & City line combined, over 114 million passenger journeys are made each year.
The first section opened in 1863 when the Metropolitan Railway opened the world’s first underground line between Paddington and Farringdon with wooden carriages and steam locomotives. The same year a select committee report recommended an ‘inner circle’ of railway lines connecting the London railway termini, and the Metropolitan District Railway (commonly known as the District Railway) was formed to build the southern portion of the line. Due to conflict between the two companies it was October 1884 before the inner circle was completed. The line was electrified in 1905.

You have to change trains at Edgware road to go west now and there is no way to tell which platform will leave first. You wait for ages. The first train comes in on one platform, you board, you sit and wait. Another train comes in on the other platform, people board, it departs, no warning or announcement to advise you to change platforms. Your train still waits… No message sign saying which train will leave first.
The only redeeming feature is that they are getting brand new air conditioned trains. Only a few running so far so I’ll give it 2 stars with hope for the future it can get it’s act together rather than one star.

Half term, rush hour, my head jammed in a strangers armpit, babies screaming, a fight to get off… enough said, it’s safe to say I’m not a fan.
Days like this make me quite glad I’m no longer a Londoner!

Hot and sweaty in the summer, cold and just cold in the winter. The Circle Line isn’t quite a circle anymore with trains ending at Edgware Road. So if you’re boarding at Paddington, I suggest you use the Hammersmith & City platform (which doesn’t terminate at Edgware Road) compared to the District/​Circle platform (which does terminate).
As one of the oldest lines (the oldest?) on the Tube, the Circle is rather bumpy and sometimes uncomfortable. The best part (sarcasm) is when the train goes to depart the station and suddenly loses power, jerking everyone and dropping a few. During peak hours, expect to be packed in like a sardine with your face in someone’s armpit.
Weekend engineering works are very common on this line, so be sure to check
before starting out.

But for the famed Pub Crawl, I would most assuredly join the maligning of the sad little tube line that could…
Not sure how I feel about clockwise or changing trains to complete the Circle, is this Gordon Brown’s doing?

I hate the circle line. Really… should it be part of the tube? It runs at a snails pace replicating the North London Line. It has many different lines running on the same tracks making reliability rubbish!
I refuse to live or work off this line without other options. Everytime I had to use this line… i’m late! ARG! However i’ve not actually been on this line in over a year… hope it’s changed! But doubt it.

Sadly I have to announce the end of the Circle Line as we know it. Our little baby is growing up to become a tadpole!
In a bid to improve the reliability and frequency of trains on the Circle Line, London Underground are adding the western part of the Hammersmith & City line onto the route for Circle Line trains, which will now start at Hammersmith.
However, they’ve decided to keep the name Circle Line

awwww beloved circle line. This is my litmus test on where is a suitable location to live in London. Outside the circle line? I probably won’t survive…
Yeah it may take me 15 – 20 min to get from Farringdon to Ken High st., but I’ll gladly pop in my headphones and go along for the ride.
I know you’re the least convenient of all the London Underground lines, but I love you the most.

Unfortunately I give the Circle Line a 2 star, as I have disasters, dramas and cumulating bad memories. Even my boss could assure you about that.
Don’t be fooled by thinking only because this line circulates around whole London, it gets you quick and efficient to the destination you need. This is what I thought at the beginning, the Circle Line, which goes directly from my doorstep to the other side of town, and no need to change.
Soon I discovered how unreliable this line can be and to avoid being late again — which was mostly the fault of long waits in the tunnels of the circle line, I soon decided to change 3 times onto other lines only to avoid getting stuck on the Circle Line.
The most frustrating thing is to be late not being able to run over a red light or overtake all other pedestrians but nervously sit and hope the Circle Line starts moving again.

You can’t help but feel that the Circle Line is more than a little pointless. I’ll start with the obvious, it just goes round in a circle. And most of it is covered by a bunch of other train lines. It’s like the lonely train that nobody liked in train school. It tries to tag along with the District Line for a while, and then gets fed up and chases after the Hammersmith and City Line.
If they took the line out of service, would we notice?. The line has this strange habit of never quite being near the place you want to get to, yet it takes an extra hour to get there.
The line is quite popular with young folk if only because of the Circle Line Pub tour — where people go round the line getting off at every station to find a pub. This sounds like fun until you’re stuck underground surrounded by rats and wondering why the hell a signal failure on the DLR line means you have to wait four hours for a train on the Circle Line.
If possible, avoid the Circle Line. It has no purpose. The other lines all make fun of it and tend to move much faster.

The Circle Line is a city boy/​girl favourite as it circles many of the city stations. To the north it runs along the same tracks as the Metropolitan and the Hammersmith & City. To the south it shares tracks with the District. If you’ve followed my other reviews you’ll know straight away that I don’t rate the Circle Line. There is always something wrong with it. If it isn’t broken down it is delayed. Plus sharing tracks with the above mentioned does it no favours at all. To top it all off it is crammed with suits that are the antithesis of my creative spiritual soul. It is never fun having your face in someone’s armpit for an entire journey.
To be fair when it is running smoothly it is a good useful line. For city types it services the likes of Farringdon, Liverpool Street and Blackfriars. The Circle Line also has major stops like Kings Cross, Notting Hill gate and Victoria.
The Circle Lines big problem is its reliability. When you need it the most it is likely to let you down.
