I never even knew this little market existed and have since found out it that Crisp Street Market was the first purpose built pedestrian shopping area in the UK which opened as part of the Festival of Britain in 1951. Mind you, I quite like exploring areas without any prior knowledge, but this explains the impressive architechture around the covered market area. The goods on sale are a predictable mix of household goods, gifts and fruit & veg. The latter were exciting as I had never come across some of the varieties looking forward to cooking my Bengali uri beans! As a big fan of Erno Goldfinger’s Trellick Tower in West London, the view of its East London twin Balfron Tower is an added bonus.
