Service was great. Pasta pie was delicious. Sausage roll was tasty. Scotch egg was disappointing.(Unfortunately for Chop Shop, it’s my companions who oversold the Scotch egg and it’s just not the best I’ve ever had.) That said, I’ll definitely be back to try more.

Popped in here for dinner on our first night in London. Had a London Pride, a smoked ham hock scotch egg, and the oven-roasted cumbrian chicken with seasonal garnish. Loved The London Pride beer. I seeked it out at every establishment for the lenth of our trip. The scotch egg was delicious. I was disappointed with the chicken though. It was a basically a breaded and fried chicken cutlet.

Nice place to grab a quick lunch… didn’t fancy blowing out on the steaks so we stuck to a number of the starters. Ham hock scotch egg, crispy chilli chicken wings and pulled pork sausage roll were all brilliant — well worth a try

Had an amazing meal here with my family before the theater. The cocktails were well made and even the veggie of the day was delicious. Great roast chicken and steak too. The best dinner we had in London!

Amazing!!! Food was absolutely delicious for our last night in London! Onion rings were on point as well as the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. For our main course we had the rib chop and it was so incredibly juicy and delicious!!! The crab appetizer spread was great as well and the bread was hot and perfect. Cannot say enough great things. Their pimms and lemonade was refreshing and a perfect cocktail! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely come again. Need one in the U.S.!!

There really isn’t much else to write here that isn’t any different from what everyone else said. ALL the food that we had here was just simply amazing. The waitress was also very attentive and nice. We had showed up early, which was around 6pm so there wasn’t any problems getting a table. Though I could see it being a problem as the place started to fill up fast after we got there.

Lived up to our expectations. Great Beef Rib Chop, great Cheesy Leeks, the best Sticky Date Pudding! Service was very attentive. Overall great experience. I suggest coming at 7:30 since the pre-theater dinner crowd packs in before the shows.

Found by accident when we were walking home and realized we were really hungry. Hanger steak, sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes were excellent. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. The area is boisterous but the setting was cm and quiet without being boring.

First time to London and we were very hungry. The pulled pork sausage roll was simply amazing– a must try with tomato chutney! I had the hangar steak, creamed spinach and onion strings– all quite good. Hubby had the patty melt and he exclaimed it was the best he ever had! Service was attentive and fast-paced. All in all a very good experience.

Sticky. Date. Pudding. Seriously, that’s all you need to know. Also, the pasta cottage pie. The hangar steak. The fries. And the Royal Blush. But seriously, the pudding. Dinner was amazing and we came back a second time just for drinks and the dessert. Well worth it. I’ll think of this meal often.

Chop Shop is an American-owned restaurant on Haymarket. Upon entry, an over-chirpy hostess greeted me with jokes and a big smile. Although the restaurant boasts a decent size bar, there were only a few cocktails available on the menu and aside from one, they were pretty weird and boring. The potential was there I’m sure, with a large fully stocked bar and a bartender. The menu was of a decent size, no specials, although when I looked online before my visit, they spoke of a burger of the month and festive cocktails-where were these? We tried the pulled pork sausage rolls-really excellent! And spicy wings which were dry and somehow, over-cooked and lukewarm, but with a great home-made blue cheese dip, so a mixed start. Mains were in-bone rib chop(not a big as you think) with various sides; creamed spinach, heritage carrots and fries. The steaks were both slightly over-cooked, when I ordered I asked for rare and said I’d liked my steak still moving; it wasn’t! We both ordered sauces; vodka bacon and peppercorn and Béarnaise, both underwhelming. Also served in different containers and in different volumes! The portion of caramelized onions we ordered as a steak topping was tasty and a good portion size. The steak was nice, not melt in the mouth amazing like Hawksmoor, but good, nicely charred. Spinach had zero seasoning, carrots were nice and chips very good, if a small portion. Considering we said we were sharing all sides, this should have been pointed out when we asked how big the sides were. Our waitress was charming, personality shining through, smiley and with the right levels of sales when we asked questions about the menu. Service was good, informative, friendly, but slightly astray, we had to request for water to be refilled and my friend’s drinks order wasn’t understood by the 1st waitress, the 2nd waitress did understand but the drink was forgotten and we had to remind them, as a rule, the drinks all took a long time to appear, the barman wasn’t busy, perhaps a full cocktail menu wouldn’t have been a good idea. Other improvements would include nicer, larger plates for the steaks, no room to eat the sides on the plates and informing people about specials and out of stocks. Overall, not a cheap place, slightly underwhelming but with a few tweaks, would be awesome. 3.5 stars.

Amazing steaks! Got the bone-in ribeye for two, and there was plenty to share! They also have a really nice theatre menu if you’re in a hurry. The staff was stretched a little thin when we went, but they stayed positive amid the flurry of guests. Bartender makes a mean Moscow Mule too.

Ate here with my husband. We went on a friday night around 8:30. The place had a decent number of people, but we had made reservations and only needed to wait a few minutes. We both ordered their bone in steak medium rare and ordered the mashed potatoes with bacon, creamed spinach and the cheesy leeks to share. Steaks were delicious and not overcooked. We ordered the bone marrow amd horse radish sauces but didnt actually use them. Good steak doesnt require sauce! We would definitely come back again if we visit London

Chop Shop had a great atmosphere, and we were very happy with our meal. We shared the cumbrian aged bone-in sirloin for 2(£26 per person). It was served pre-sliced, was beautifully cooked and had great flavor. We also shared mashed potatoes, which weren’t anything special but nonetheless good. For an appetizer, we got the prosciutto & mortadella meatballs. They were delicious and came with soft, lightly grilled sourdough bread to sop up the sauce. When we ran out of bread, they brought us more at no charge. I got 2 cocktails — passione arrabiata(tasty, spicy margarita) & masala mai tai(presentation was great but a little too sweet for me). The only complaint is that the round tables for 2 were a little small, but that’s expected in London.

Excellent find in the west end. Very well prepared tender steaks. Great starter with the smoked salmon. Staff was very friendly, made the experience that much better. I would eat here regularly if I lived in the city.

I had the Scotch Egg & Basil Gnocchi with Braised Oxtail and parmigiano, and the Hangar Steak with creamy horseradish sauce and mashed potatoes — all of it was amazing!!! The bartender and server were two superb ladies that made the meal/experience all the better. Will come back when in town.

First, it is USDA. So, go ahead and drool. I went out to dinner and drinks with a friend here last weekend. Staff was great. Had several of their cocktails, and they were top notch! Went with the fillet with a side of the mashed potatoes. Fillet was perfect. Order the bacon vodka sauce… sounds crazy, but it is good! Try the butterscotch dessert! Worth the price… it’s a tad expensive, but worth VFM!

My London based friend asked where I wanted to go for dinner when I was over recently and told her to choose. Now she has lived in London for a couple decades and loves to go out and eat, so I was pretty sure that when she said, «I booked a reservation in the Chop Shop,» I thought that we were going to eat in a garage among pieces of automobiles. How wrong I was — although that idea sounded pretty cool too! Being from the NYC area and not one to say know to a NY t-bone or any other big cut of beef, I was happy to see the menu was full of beef. Now I’m not going to try to find lots of interesting words to describe what a steak tastes like, because if you have had a good steak before then you already know what it tastes like and, needless to say, this is the place to go. What I found the most amazing with this bacon flavored steak sauce. The fries that accompanied my big cut of cow were good too. Pricewise, I honestly didn’t find it very expensive for London; well, for a proper London restaurant and not a café or fast food joint. Check it out next time you’re in London, but do book too because it does get crowded.

Five stars are typically reserved for perfection. Is this really a five star? is it even officially open yet? Maybe it’s a 4.5 that rounds up. But considering this was a soft opening with so few misses and we had time to speak to the owner, manager and other employees who were all friendly and genuinely interested in our feedback(new napkins have been ordered!) — I am totally cool with the 5. Thanks to Nudge for announcing Chop Shop. I know Altamarea’s NYC restaurants so I was intrigued. But when I saw USDA in the article — I was SOLD. You must understand, the meat in this country is different than America. Oh how I was drooling at those four letters. Soft opening meant 25% off which in turn meant none of my group felt bad ordering that extra starter or main. We began with celery gimlets(Brits love their gin) and had some crispy wings and Morini meatballs. Pretty impressive start. The USDA hangar steak lived up to its expectations. The Barnsley lamp chop was outstanding. The chips were chips but… there are sauce choices for the meat and this is where I dipped my chips. I tasted each — all were good — though the red wine bone marrow and bacon peppercorn stood out. I almost considered asking if they bottled them for retail. I didn’t love the courgettes(though one diner did) or the mashed potatoes but the honey glazed carrots were delicious. Did we have dessert you ask? So we didn’t have to choose, Mr. White and Will chose for us. Our table didn’t finish the strawberry one but the peanut butter brownie sundae was nearly demolished and I can attest that I licked the edges of the butterscotch custard jar. Don’t be scared by butterscotch — it wasn’t sickeningly sweet. It was deep in flavor, light as mousse in texture, and topped with sea salt as the last to hit your lips. If this sounds like heaven, that’s how it tasted. Basically…this place rocked. The food brought me home. Lots of variety. Pleasant employees. I may have said ‘I want to come for dinner every night this week.‘ Oh and I don’t regret the choice of the bottle of pinot noir to accompany dinner. Although the amount I drank is another story.
